NY POST wins the headline award

HOSE YOUR DADDY! (http://www.nypost.com/sports/54949.htm)

By MICHAEL MORRISSEYBOSTON Orlando Hernandez entered with the bases drunk. Because of his magnificent sixth-inning performance with zero margin for error, the White Sox exited Fenway Park on a champagne high.

BOSTON PUNCHED OUT BY EL DUQUE

BOSTON - After it was over, after El Duque did what his old Yankee teammates couldn't do last year - drive a stake through the heart of the Red Sox - he puffed on a victory cigar in front of the mound and sipped champagne as the last remaining Red Sox fans cheered him at Fenway Park. The White Sox celebration had spilled onto the field for a raucous team picture, and Orlando Hernandez lingered for a few minutes to enjoy the Division Series-sweeping 5-3 win over the Red Sox.

NY Daily News
New curse as Boston flops
The Boston Red Sox's season is over, and so is its reign as world champion. Both ended when White Sox closer Bobby Jenks got Edgar Renteria to ground out to second, finishing a 5-3 win at Fenway Park and completing Chicago's division series sweep.

El Duque turns
back the clock
John Harper: El Duque Hernandez walked into the interview room with the swagger of a heavyweight champion, puffing on a fat cigar, flashing that wide, round-faced smile that Yankee fans remember from this time of year.

Curses, again (http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2005/10/08/curses_again)

No books on the 2005 Red Sox. No major motion pictures, no ESPY Awards, and none of those corny Christmas card photos of your neighbor standing next to the World Series trophy. (By Dan Shaughnessy, Today's Globe)
Reign out (http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2005/10/08/reign_out)

The Red Sox' season ended last night, Boston's boys of summer beaten by the White Sox, eliminated in the first round, swept away. (Today's Globe)

Cool Hernandez works his old magic (http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2005/10/08/cool_hernandez_works_his_old_magic)

To think, Guillen's last roster decision for the AL Division Series came down to rookie righthander Brandon McCarthy, who had mesmerized the Red Sox in a late-season start, or ''El Duque," who hadn't pitched well and had been bounced from the starting rotation.

But Guillen figured he had a 36-year-old legend on his staff with postseason experience. Why not tap that experience?

Nice call.

Red Sox starting pitcher Tim Wakefield, as well as most of the fans along the third base line, were not too excited as they watched the flight of the sixth inning two-run home run by Paul Konerko sail out of the park, but the Chicago was pumped up. The blast put Chicago up 4-2.

Mike Cleary, of Rockford, Ill., stood on Yawkey Way outside Fenway Park, and watched the game on a nearby television monitor. "You guys won it last year. This year is our year," he explained. "After tonight, you guys will be rooting for us." Maybe, Mike. Just beat the Yankees (if they make it to the ALCS), and we'll see.

and BoSox music guru the lovely Megan played Jake and Elwood and the White Sox fans were singing "SWEEP HOME CHICAGO"

BTW the Red Sox organist Josh Kantor said this
"My musical heroes are a lot of the old time ballpark organists, like John Kiley, who was here for 40 years," he says. "Nancy Bea Hefley and Gladys Gooding, who were both with the Dodgers for many years, Nancy Faust, who's been with the White Sox forever. She's fantastic. Eddie Layton, who was with the Yankees for a long time, was wonderful. That's more the tradition that I'm accustomed to, where they were responsible for all the in-game music. But it's a different era now."
