Aren't you guys glad they kept El Duque on the playoff roster? HUGE, HUGE, HUGE!!!

McCarthy is a great young pitcher, but there's no way he comes into a situation like that and gets out of it. Hernandez has been there many times before, and he knew what he had to do.

AWESOME!!!!!

Berman has tears in his eyes reminicing. Cry me a river ****er.

He's pathetic. ESPN is pathetic. The entire media is pathetic for the way they've handled all of this. Dismissing the Sox as a fluke, grudgingly giving Ozzie credit for the great job he's done, ignoring the fact that the Sox did all of this without their best offensive player, refusing to agknowledge the job Kenny Williams did to build this team. The media has made a complete mockery of the Sox, and so it's only fitting that the Sox return the favor now.

Fourth place finish, my ****ing ass. Go Sox!

HERE'S TO THE SOX! :gulp::gulp::gulp::gulp::gulp::gulp::gulp::gulp:

the sixth inning was the most stressful hour of my entire life.

THIS IS OUR YEAR!!

Ozzie handed them the game on a silver platter, they just didn't take it. They're a mediocre playoff team...We're just superior, period. Other than that Ozzie's been fantastic. Hopefully he's got a good feel for who to go to now. I know we all do. Glad he got his big mistake out of the way, hopefully he doesn't pull anything like that again. I'm confident he won't.

Agreed. Probably the gutsiest pitching performance I've ever seen, and certainly the best result.

:supernana:

And to think, I was all ready with the Fire Ozzie tag when he brought Marte in and let him walk the bases loaded. (The question isn't why Duque was on the roster instead of McCarthy, it's why Marte is on the roster instead of McCarthy. Marte pitched exactly according to form. I hope Ozzie learned his lesson tonight.)

I think this speaks for itself. The pitching was great (understatement!) all series and the hitting came through when they had to! And how 'bout that squeeze?! Never would I have thought that they'd actually sweep. It was in the back of my mind, but I'm still in disbelief that the Red Sox failed to get even one win against us.

The White Sox totally blew out the Red Sox in game 1 and in games 2 and 3, they hit the magic number of 5 runs and that held.

El Duque's relief appearance was amazing today. It was also a very good move by Ozzie, so he shares in the credit. That check swing strikeout against Damon was just absolutely amazing.

Manny hit 2 HRs and Oritz one, but that still did not matter. We won in spite of their HRs and shutting down the rest of the lineup was another key.

I don't think Red Sox fans knew what hit them. They cannot comprehend yet what just happened to them after having so many postseason games last year. It was like what happened to us in 2000.

On to the ALCS! :D:

...about this win...

first of all, Mr. Konerko. How $#@! clutch is this guy? That HR was beautiful.

Secondly, the fact that the strikeout of Damon was legitimately a strikeout. The reply don't lie. The umps didn't give us a gift, even though we were entitiled to one after several innings of horrible calls. Damon swung. The wrists broke, the bat crossed the plane of the plate. Dammit, that was strike three.

Because we're good enough, and we're smart enough. If no one likes us, well, screw 'em.

Ol' No. 2 is right, this is not the day to dwell on the negatives. Marte's teammates picked him up, especially Hernandez, who Ozzie and KW have used to perfection this year. And we won the damn inning, and game, and series!

I am not only proud of these guys for winning, I am proud of how well they played the game, and how well they represented Chicago (well, Chicago's better half :D:) in what was basically their debut on the national stage. I don't think there are many Red Sox fans who feel they should've won the series, and in fact I've heard a lot of grudging admiration and good wishes from Red Sox fans tonight. They understand long droughts almost as well as we do.

Hats off to Ozzie, A.J., P.K., Tad, Uribe, Crede, Dye, Rowand, Podsednik, Contreras, Buehrle, Garcia, El Duque, Jenks, Viz, and everyone not named Damaso. You get a pass from me for the rest of the season.

Congrats to all you long-time fans, and the newcomers, too. The win really feels like the start of something -- not the end, at all. This is the last time these Sox will sneak up on anyone. They'll still have to battle for respect, but the days of Under the Radar are gone for 2005.

I think they can handle the spotlight. It's been said many times, but September was a perfect tuneup for this kind of scrutiny. They knocked off the best second-half team in Cleveland and the champs in Boston. Don't know about the rest of you, but I want the Yankees. Whichever team wins the other ALDS, they'll have their hands full.

In the press conference, they just asked Duque what brand of cigar he was smoking. He said the label reads, "Congratulations, Chicago White Sox." I'll take a box of those. Ozzie can say I-told-you-so to all the people disappointed he kept Hernandez instead of McCarthy. (I was disappointed he kept Vizcaino and Marte instead of McCarthy.) He's manager of the hottest team in baseball. That suicide squeeze was a perfect punctuation point. The White Sox are ready for their closeup.

Did you get how during the postgame show ESPN kept showing footage of broken-hearted little Red Sox fans? Oh, please!! Give me a break! My favorite was the dad at Fenway consoling his young son who was wearing a hat. A red hat. On closer inspection, a red ****ing Yankees hat. Yep, the kid was a diehard fan of the Carmines.

I can't believe I got suckered in by the bouquet Berman threw to Hawk during Game 2. Boomer's a bummer, a complete tool. What made it worse was how he knew he was being self-indulgent. Just before the sign-off, he said almost apologetically that he grew up in New England, and he raised the inane story again about people having drinks at their grandparents' gravesites or something, because they love the Red Sox so deeply. Completely inexcusable behavor by a broadcaster on the national stage.

While we're on the subject of media, props to Dan Roan, who gave major play to the Sox postgame on WGN. He clearly enjoys seeing them win and doesn't just go through the motions like the rest of them who work for the Dark One. Roan had some classic on-field interviews.

But even for one second it took away a moment from watching the Sox celebrate. I was like, "B!tch puh-lease!, you won last year get over it! Bye bye" :bandance::bandance::bandance:

Absolutely amazing! What a team, what a year. I have been a Sox fan for 58 years and this is the best. '59 was the reason I've been a Sox fan all my life, but nothing can compare to this team. Consecutive sweeps of the hottest team in baseball and the defending world champs with all of the chips on the table. Wow.

El Duque plays a whole legendary season in one inning. And to seal the deal with a squeeze bunt in the ninth is just -- White Sox baseball!

I love this team.

Ozzie has a way of silencing his critics, like

:moron
who dissed the "Blizzard of Oz" in his column for lack of professionalism and the Hawk as "Foghorn Leghorn". He should dress in a Foghorn Leghorn suit and kiss the Hawk if the Sox win the World Series. This guy is a very talented writer, and maybe he will leave the dark side of negative writing and be more positive like Ozzie.

And
http://re2.mm-b1.yimg.com/image/762029294 (http://av.rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A9ibyKYhFUdDtsYAekFvCqMX;_ylu=X3oDMTBvMmFkM29 rBHBndANhdl9pbWdfcmVzdWx0BHNlYwNzcg--/SIG=125dnbu9l/EXP=1128818337/**http%3a//www.670thescore.com/onair/mike_north.shtml)
who openly questioned Ozzie's motives and wisdom on the radio (and probably gets paid as much or more than Ozzie) for choosing El Duque over Brandon McCarthy. Experience counts is not just a cliche, we saw it first hand getting out of bases loaded nobody out. Ozzie knew what he was doing. Besides, Brandon was there celebrating at Fenway with a big cigar in his mouth. But in fairness to this radio announcer, many of us doubted El Duque too.

Great job Ozzie! Keep winning and silencing (and winning over) your critics, and they'll join your bandwagon!!

Outstanding!! I love how they got their stuff together at precisely the right time. I've never seen anything like this, sweeping the defending champs.

I was 7 when the air raid sirens went off, too young to appreciate the rarity it was to become. Thanks, guys, for a great time.

I'm working on the road, and missed most of the games, but my wife kept me informed via cell phone. She's crazy for the Sox too.

I can't wait for the next round. I feel like staying on the road until the World Series is over. :D:

El Duque is the hero of the day for me. The man has ice flowing through his veins to come out and do what he did. I guess that is why KW picked him up, for games just like this. Did you see that Boston dugout? They were stunned.

You know, I do not do very much horn tooting of my own on this website, but, I think I nailed the key on a post before game 2

The Key really is not stopping Ortiz and Manny, as much as it is keeping runners off infront of them. A solo home run hurts a lot less then a 3 run shot.

Now, I in no way made this happen, Freddy did. They may have got 3 homers off him, but all solo's and THAT IS ALL THEY GOT. In the playoffs, all you have to do is do enough to get a W.

8 more to go WSI, lets live this up, then get the next 8 one at a time, gotta get 1 before you get 8

That sixth inning pitched in relief by El Duque is without question the most clutch performance I have ever witnessed in any sport. Amazing... absolutely amazing.

He earned his entire year's salary for just those three outs.

This game had so many heroes, but El Duque's bases-loaded effort to get 3 outs stands apart.

I can't even describe how I feel, but I'll try.

El Duque's 6th inning will go down in White Sox lore as one of the most dramatic moments in team history. Had Boston taken the lead that inning the momentum would have shifted and we'd be facing Schilling in Game Four. It reminds me of Jesse Orosco in Game Six of the NLCS in 1986 when he shut down the Astros in the bottom of the 16th. Or Pedro in Game Five of the 1999 ALCS when he shut down the Indians in an 8-8 tie for no hits in six innings. Or even John Rocker in Game Three of the NLDS against the Astros in 1999, when he kept the winning run on third from scoring in the bottom of the 10th and entered the game with bases loaded and nobody out. Rocker was a complete loser, but that was probably the height of his once-promising career. I'm trying to think of other incredibly clutch post-season relief performances.

I realize that it was only one step towards the ultimate goal, but I sure wish my Dad were alive to have seen this, and I wish I had been sitting next to him when Jenks had recorded the last out. He loved the Sox, and he taught me to do the same. In downstate Illinois, we were definitely "minorities" in terms of our baseball passions, but that didn't make any difference. He died in 1994, and he never saw his beloved Sox win a postseason series.

I know he is watching this all from above, and he is enjoying it.

Sorry if I made this too sappy. I just had to get that out there.

God love the White Sox!!!!!!!!!! This is a great, great day... and I hope and pray we will have much more to celebrate over the next two to three weeks.

Mrs. PHG was ripping on practically all the Red Sox this series. Though there are exceptions, they have several sloven and downright ugly ballplayers. Mrs. PHG runs a tight ship and guys like Damon, Ramirez, and Wells would all be required to get full makeovers or ride the bus if she were in charge.

While we're on the subject of media, props to Dan Roan, who gave major play to the Sox postgame on WGN. He clearly enjoys seeing them win and doesn't just go through the motions like the rest of them who work for the Dark One. Roan had some classic on-field interviews.

The ump had been squeezing Garcia too. Ozzie knew that, and he knows Marte's lost his control. And he could see the bases slowly filling up with men wearing red stockings. I can't fathom why he stayed with him so long.

Maybe Hernandez just needed more time to warm up?

Do you realize that the Sox have now effectively removed one, maybe two paragraphs of future blather from Chicago sportswriters? There wasn't an end of season choke because the Sox won the division, the team finally won a home playoff game (not since 1959) AND the team has won a playoff series (not since 1917).

Now we have to take aim at ending the pennant drought and then forever ending the "have thrown a World Series since winning one" commentary.

Oh, by the way, I love this team and I love you guys!!!:redneck

These White Sox are creating a new level of success, and a new standard of play. That 6th inning was incredible - El Duque was magnificent!!

I was at Wednesday's 5-4 win, and as a result, I have no voice left (after Tad's big shot in the fifth). Greatest White Sox win I ever saw in person, because up until now, it was the most significant.

However, more "significant" victories will follow. Be certain of this, White Sox fans. Our patience (obscured by the baseball world until now) is about to be rewarded.

I'm too tired to read through the entire thread right now, but suffice it to say that that bartenders and waitresses of Monk's know how passionate White Sox fans are. WSIers represented very well -- and a huge thanks to Goose for reserving a lot of tables for us, which were like gold as the post-5:00 work people started streaming in. The place was completely PACKED with nary a Bosox fan in sight (though there was one idiot who strolled in with a Cubs hat on...he left soon thereafter).

What else is there left to say about this team? Aside from piece of **** nice-to-know-ya Damaso's pants-pissing performance, our entire team came through and knocked out the defending world champs and their Royce Clayton-on-'roids piece of trash left fielder. Orlando Hernandez has earned a place in White Sox folklore with that 2-inning relief performance tonight, that's for sure. COJONES MUY GRANDE, as they say down in Cuba. Thank you, Orlando, for proving why signing you was such a wise move by KW. You stemmed the tide and pretty much saved the game for the Sox right there.
