Per ESPN, apparently he fractured his 8th and 9th ribs during the game. No idea when or how, just that he's done. Rough on the Padres, especially if they push it 4 or 5 games which is a stretch anyhow.

That's too bad. One always hates to see this sort of thing happen at this point in the season. The Padres may be in a mediocre division, but they still earned the right to play for a World Championship. It's unfortunate that their best pitcher won't be with them the rest of the way.

I turned the game on just before Sanders hit the GS off of Peavy. He's on my fantasy team so I've watched him pitch a few times this season and I thought I noticed something "off" in his motion. It is too bad and might hasten the Padres exit from the postseason.

Per ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2005/news/story?id=2181056), it sounds like he may have initially broken the rib during San Diego's on-field celebration of winning their division.

I guess "San Diego: They Gone" might be an apt way of summing it up.
