topic this morning on WEEI has been Everett's piece with Lacy Banks. That's the Carl we remember.

Sean McAdam ( Providence Jouranal )last night on WEEI actually said this.

"You can make a case that the White Sox are truly the most pathetic club in MLB history. Try making an all-time White Sox roster and you see how few great players they have had in 104 years." He mentioned all the 59 greats, Shoeless Joe, Dick Allen, Bill Melton, Fisk. IMHO he was way out of line.

Thanks for posting these Fenway, it makes for some good reading. They rip on our board as much as we rip on theirs.

I just find it funny that we have the best record in the AL and everybody thinks that the White Sox are gonna be a cake walk.

The Red Sox are not saying that. Nothing but respect for Chicago from every player.

Who really won the AL East? The Yankees have to travel 3,000 miles and play a red hot Anaheim team. They played to win yesterday and got smoked. Keep in mind Anaheim has never lost to New York in the post season.

I'd still rather be the Yankees right now than the Red Sox. While the travel is never pleasant the Angels are a weaker team than the White Sox. We are top to bottom the most well rounded squad in the AL and, IMHO, I don't think anyone should be happy to draw us.

I was listening to Red Sox postgame show on WEEI last night, funny stuff, the hosts think this will be a cakewalk, and some of the callers (I know they're not all like that, there's smart ones like Fenway), but they were making Wrigley fans look like Jack McKeon

WEEI has a horrible streaming system, I can't get my registration to work, then I got some logins from bugmenot.com and there's all this point system stuff, I just want to listen to the feed!

They also can't figure out the Red Cubs nickname.

Lets see what they might have in common...

a large national following?
a huge drought between WS trophies?
blaming a "curse" for that huge drought? (I think this is the biggest reason by far)
a really old ballpark?

I really want to point out the fact that WE have the jerseys and hats that say "Sox" on them. Their stuff just says "Boston".

They were reading the Moron's latest garbage and trying to figure it out. :o:

Completely agree, Angels over the Yankees is a no-brainer to me, all these SC anchor talking head idiots have the east-coast bias and believe in "tradition and aura" of the Yankees, but don't look at the real team at hand.

From redsoxnation.com:

I've lived here [Chicago] for eight years now and I don't pretend to get the Chicago sports media one bit. There is definitely a bit of an inferiority complex though with both the east and west coasts, and the fact that the other three AL playoff teams are from those locations won't help the media around here.

Having lived in Boston, and given the Red Sox' relationship with the Yankees and Boston's relationship with New York in general, perhaps accusing others of having an inferiority complex is unwise.

Excerpt from another person with their fingers on the pulse of Chicago...

you have to understand that something close to the majority of chicago will be rooting for the red sox against the white sox, and that because of the chicago media sort of adopting the red sox as a pet team, white sox fans have been carrying a grudge against the red sox since last october.

I think it's fair to say that you can go to any team's message board and cherry pick posts that show a particular opinion or attitude. Yes, there are posters on that site who have to be taken with a grain of salt, but I'm sure there are here, too.

If most Red Sox fans are guilty of anything, it's being too wrapped up in the Yankee rivalry and not knowing a lot about the ChiSox (or Indians, or Twins, etc). The unbalanced schedule doesn't help, as we don't see much of your team. While extremely talented, you also fly under the radar somewhat because you're more efficient than "star-laden." That doesn't make you any less dangerous -- it probably makes you more so. Knowledgeable Red Sox fans are well aware of that.

Oh, I know. I just found that guy's comment particularily funny. There are both knobs and knowledgeable posters on both sites. I've been trolling redsoxnation for the last couple days to get some perspective on Boston that doesn't come from a major media outlet. I've liked what I've read so far (for the most part). The Herald has the usual trashtalk fluff piece on Boston vs Chicago. I'm sure there are similar ones in Chicago.
Beantown blows away Windy City (http://news.bostonherald.com/localRegional/view.bg?articleid=105434)

Shaughnessy points out how little history the 2 clubs have given they have played each other for 104 years. He also took a swipe at USCF in the lead sentence.

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2005/10/04/not_much_chemistry_or_history_here/
CHICAGO -- This afternoon, the Red Sox open their Division Series against the White Sox at dreadful US Cellular Field (the new Comiskey Park)

I felt bad for Tim from Chicago who called WEEI yesterday and tried to pull the RedFlub card. Glenn Ordway destroyed him.

Ordway. "Ya there was misery between the Cubs and Red Sox fans and guess what YOU ARE JEALOUS OF THAT. It has to kill you inside that the Cubs and Red Sox at least had a chance to win a post season series. Now maybe this year you will and we will know in a week but don't try to play that card here."

But perhaps the New York Times captured the difference between White Sox, Cubs and Red Sox fans best this morning.

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/10/04/sports/baseball/04sox.html
Had it been the Red Sox instead of the White Sox that nearly blew a 15-game lead last month, they might have held poetry readings outside the ballpark to appease the fates. If it had been the Cubs, they would have probably thrown a party to change their fortunes. The White Sox simply clenched their teeth and clinched the A.L. Central.

U.S. Cellular Field does not have the history of Fenway Park, and the stadium's location on the South Side of Chicago does not have the charm of Wrigleyville. But the White Sox and their new ace are perfectly suited to the locale. They do not mind a few rough corners.

CHICAGO -- If Red Sox executive vice president Charles Steinberg and his marketing gurus wish to unveil a banner declaring the Red Sox 2005 cochampions of the American League East, it appears that will be the team's prerogative.

''If I were running the Red Sox," commissioner Bud Selig said last night, standing in the press box at US Cellular Field, ''I would declare myself cochamps."

Said Steinberg: ''It sounds like we agree with the commissioner."

The Red Sox and Yankees finished atop the AL East with 95-57 records but the Yankees were declared division champions, by way of head-to-head competition (10-9).

It has to kill you inside that the Cubs and Red Sox at least had a chance to win a post season series. this Ordway asswipe

A great number of Boston-area sports radio listeners agree with you 100% on this one. Yet another media guy whose idea of entertainment is to be as loud and provocative as possible. He calls himself "the Big-O" (having once broadcast Celtics games, the arrogant prick should know better). Of course. he's also known by many as "the big oaf."

Ordway is the radio star Mike North wishes he was. His so called "Big Show" is the most listened to show in afternoon drive.

A few years ago the Boston Globe banned their employees from being on his show because he would harp on the air that the late Will McDonough was a phony and liar. This started when McDonough was the first to write that Reggie Lewis probably died from a heart problem caused by cocaine use when younger. McDonough also wrote that Ordway couldn't wait to push a dying Johnny Most out of the play by play job he wanted ( and got when Most could no longer do it ) He got bigger instead. Then the Globe tried to run a competing show against him hosted by Sean McDonough. It bombed.

Ordway is very, very good at what he does and was a finalist this year for a Marconi Award for best radio personality in the US.

I thought the Globe ban came after Shaunessy refused to go back on the show because it sometimes got too offensive. And is the Globe ban still in effect? I thought someone said Holley* was on there a few days ago.

And as someone who listened to a ton of WEEI...Ordway is not good at what he does in my opinion, unless what he's trying to do is play a caricature of a fat Boston blow-hard.
