"Dude, where's your starting pitching?"I invite you to look at Contreras's career numbers against the Red Sox lineup and Buehrle's performance this year. Garland has also been knocked around. How are the White Sox going to pitch to Papi and Manny?

I do not want to risk the wrath of the WSI elders and keepers of the winged sock, so I will just look for the reply.

:dtroll: :dtroll: :dtroll: :dtroll:

First off, we played Boston right around the time things had either gone South or were about to. Jose Contreras doesn't pitch in NY anymore. This is the NEW Jose Contreras. Garland also looks like he has more confidence now.

I'm not concerned about Big P****. Let him go 1-3 in the series with 13 INT BB. And Manny? Pitch around him too. I want him in the lineup because I want his excellent defense in LF.

I think Boston is the most grossly overrated team in the playoffs and because of that they will disappear quickly. Going even further, if the Sox could pick any playoff team - either AL or NL - to face in the first round, I'd pick Boston. The Padres, as much as they get **** on, are a better playoff team than that garbage they throw on the field in Boston.

Have fun losing Carmines. You suck.

I invite you to look at Wakefield's career numbers against the White Sox. And Clement and Wells were terrible this year against the White Sox. Oh, and Contreras is quite obviously a different pitcher than he was before the All Star Break. He gave up 3 runs in 6 innings against the Red Sox in that 100 degree scorcher in July. Of course, JC could return to his bad old pitch tipping, overhand, slow-working, out-of-control self. But he's been pretty sharp the last few months.

I've banned myself from actually predicting wins from Chicago teams. It really seems to do no good since my predictions are usually wrong. Plus I'm just superstitious enough to think that my predicting success leads to failure.

With that said, I think the Sox have a pretty good chance to win this series. I don't see either team sweeping. The Sox pitching alone will win at least one game in the series. The Red Sox hitting alone will win them one game in the series. How the other two/three will play out, I don't know.

You obviously have to like the pitching matchups. That's not to say anything is a guarantee. Their pitchers are certainly more playoff experienced than ours. Ours have been better in the regular season. I wouldn't disrespect their guys though as I think any of them is capable of shutting us down. But on paper we win the matchup here.

Their hitting is lights year better than ours. They have a better or equal hitter at just about every position except 1B. Their team is extremely playoff tested, particularly given what they came back from last year.

But like I said, I think we have a good chance to come away from this series as winners.

If we were examining the series scientifically by using the ExCubstanicialism theory - doesn't that put the White Sox in a sure fire lock to take the series? I believe the equation works out as follows:

ExCub + Overrated fat DH - no pitching staff = White Sox Winner!

What do you think?

I think Oritz is not overrated. That guy is a fantastic hitter and he will get his hits. The key is to not allow Damon and Renteria to score on said hits.

I like Boston in 4. ( but I wouldn't be surprised if it goes 5 )

Red Sox pitching is shaky, and I am not thrilled with Clement starting Game 1 and being the possible Game 5 starter. His 2005 numbers mirror 2004 with the Cubs but the truth is he hasn't been the same since he took that line drive in the head by Carl Crawford in July. There are some whispers his vision is not quite right.

Bullpen Timlin is the closer but he is useless with inherited runners on base ( a whopping 56% have scored ) When he comes in clean, he has been fine.

Remember this name Jonathan Papelbon (http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/team/player.jsp?player_id=449097) He reminds me of Clemens in 1986.

Offense If the White Sox can shut down Ortiz and Manny you will be in great shape. BUT Manny has been on fire the last week and Ortiz is as dangerous as any hitter in the game. KEY Renteria is starting to hit so if either he or Damon get on, you can't pitch around both Ortiz snd Manny.

Starters advantage White Sox. Contreras has been lights out since August but he has a history of choking in big games against Boston ( while with NYY )
Don't dismiss Wells, he likes the White Sox as much as you like him. Wakefield? He got rocked Saturday on 3 days rest but otherwise he has pitched as well as he ever has his last 13 starts.

Manager slight advantage Francona only because he has post season experience.

Scouting I know nothing about the WS advance scouts. Last year Boston had a great game plan against St Louis and it will be interesting to see how plan to pitch to the White Sox.

We won the season 4-3 but only because Crede showboated a foul popup and gave Manny another pitch to look at.

It's going to be great baseball. I have been looking foward to this all year except I thought it would be in the ALCS.

I don't see anything in your post that shows WHY you think the Red Sox have the advantage. It's simple, pitching and defense beats hitting. We got you on pitching on defense.

Palehose in 5. As good as the WSox have been pitching for the last couple weeks I think it will be very difficult to shut down the two headed monster that thwey wont be responsible for at least one or two wins. I think the Boston hitting gets them 2 wins and the Real Sox pitching gets them 3 wins.
