View Full Version : Get Ready For Rally Monday

Last year, all playoff teams hosted a "Rally Monday" on the eve of the playoffs. Most events were free(usually sponsored by pepsi or other large sponsors). The braves even had half off playoff tickets on sale at the cnn center that day.
I havent heard if this will happen again(there ewas no official announcement on any rally monday events until after the last playoff team clinched), but expect it to be announced soon, and most likely going to happen at the daley center or comiskey.

The Angels are doing one according to their homepage, so it's probably safe to assume that everybody is.

Just talked to Billy Pierce. That morning he is going to be wearing his actual game jersey and hat from the 59 World Series. He is scheduled to do some interviews with the media. He said he may wear the jersey to the rally.

Even if I could make it I don't think I would go after reading Guillen's comments in the Herald. He's peeved about being forced to attend the rally, as "its the playoffs. Fans will come to playoffs no matter what." (Not a direct quote, but thats the gist of it). I'm glad Ozzie speaks his mind, but sometimes you've gotta wonder about the guy.

Someone from the White Sox organization, or maybe some fans who have extra time on their hands, should post up a bunch of fliers or posters promoting the rally at Ogilvie station, Union Station, and L stations, that say something like "SPEND LUNCHTIME AT SOX RALLY". A heck of a lot of people would show up.

Looks like they're lining people up on State between Washington and Randolph. So far I can see balloons and a couple of stages. Looks like a small crowd so far but it's hard for me to see if there's a line going down state from my window here.

EDIT: They're now letting people in, it's about 11:03. I'm heading over in a few minutes, boss in tow.

WGN news at noon had a guy there, pimping the event big time. Noted approx 5,000-6,000 people, called it a White Sox town, etc.

However, he lost some credibility when stating "This is 99 years of pent up frustration, its been 99 years since the White Sox won a World Series."

:?::rolleyes:

No, I think its been 99 years since we beat the Cubs for a world series.

- Lots of news cameras but, yeah, the audio system sucked.
- Nice highlight video but some idiot decided to put tents on either side of the video board, so it was difficult for most people to see the whole thing.
- Ed Farmer said that he likes our chances tomorrow against "former cub Matt Clement."

I just got back myself. Stopped for a sandwich at Potbelly's at State & Lake and appreciated the air conditioning! Hot & humid out there, but a great time. Nancy was her usual on-the-mark musical self and Daley's & Farmer's remarks were good.

Ah, y'can't beat fun at the old ball park! Now let's sweep!

It was unbelievable hot there. I think I'm only just now cooling off.

It was good - I thought they'd have more booths selling Sox merchandise, but really didn't see any. Daley had a good speech after being given a "Daley 05" jersey to replace his suit jacket.

Nancy was awesome as always!

What did Daley and Farmer say?

Farmer said he "loves our chances" with Contreras going against Clement tomorrow. Said he wasn't excited about winning the division because he feels this team will do bigger things than that. Basically predicted we'd be coming home Friday with a sweep in hand.

Daley's remarks were more boosterism, but you could tell he was genuinely excited. He talked about a bet he made with Boston's mayor that involved a bunch of food, and said something to the effect of "...don't worry about it."

I went with the kids. It was a little underwhelming, to be honest. There weren't a whole lot of giveaways, and there really wasn't anything for kids, but we did secure a huge collection of balloons. Actually, the highlight of the day was driving back through Wrigleyville with Sox balloons hanging out my window. I got a lot of smiles, actually.

Sorry for the late post but I just got home from work.

I wore my white striped WS shirt and got to the rally about 12:15. By that time all the wristbands were gone. I was too far back to see the "stage." If there was one, it was pretty small. I also agree with everybody else that it was HOT!! The crowd seemed a bit subdued but came alive when Kittie and Farmer spoke, and during the monthly hightlight clips, and when they showed Big Frank. A lady told me that when she showed up at 11:30 she was told the show was delayed and to come back in a half hour. The signing poster at the entrance to the rally was way too small to accommodate everyone who wanted to sign it but I managed to squeeze in "God bless the White Sox."

I left the rally about 1 p.m. to go back to work. When I got to LaSalle and Lake a guy walked up to me and asked me if I had won anything at the rally. I told him that I didn't even get a wristband. Then as he was walking away he yelled, "The Sox are going to get beat by the Red Sox. Sorry." I yelled back at him, "That's only your opinion and it doesn't mean anything to me." That's all I could think of to say. I don't think too fast on my feet.

I also went to the pep rally in Daley plaza in 1983 and had a great time. The crowd then was larger and more lively. I think the difference is we were more confident that the Sox would win it all back then. Little did we know. After the 83, 93 and 00 playoff failures, I guess most fans are cautiously optimistic. I was glad I went. Since I don't have playoff tickets that's the least I could do for the team.

GO SOX!!!!!!

Another reason things were a bit rowdier in 83 was because the SOx didn't have postseason since '59. It was a very big deal. Not that this isn't..
