CHICAGO (AP) -- Right-hander Jason Grilli was designated for assignment Friday by the Chicago White Sox to open a roster spot for infielder Tadahito Iguchi, who agreed to a $4.95 million, two-year contract earlier in the week.

Grilli, 28, went 2-3 with a 7.40 ERA and one complete game in eight starts with the White Sox in 2004 and 9-9 with a 4.83 ERA and two complete games in 25 starts with Triple-A Charlotte. He has gone 40-44 with a 4.61 ERA in 123 minor league starts and 5-5 with a 6.78 ERA in 15 major league games.

Better bring it tomorrow Freddy!!!

This should tell you all you need to know... We'll probably struggle to score 3 on him though.... argh!

The way we've been hitting it doesn't matter who's pitching. I think Todd Richie could go 8 soild innings against us. :o:

Then they could bring in Billy Koch to work a scoreless 9th :(:

Like last year, can't hit first year players for no reason whatsoever. This has been a little different. We aren't making every rookie look like Cy Young, but if we revert back to last year's ways I will be very mad.

Yeah, but Billy would get a K, then walk the bases loaded with one out. With Konerko up and Ozzie wanting to avoid a righty/righty matchup, he looks down his bench. He sees lefties such as Gload, AJ, and Timo, but he fears the counter-move of a lefty out of the pen and the dreaded lefty/lefty matchup. He looks down the bench again and sees a player with his back to him, and Ozzie reads the letters "B-L-U-M" and he says, "Hey Blooooom, you eh sweeeetch heeeeeeter?" Blum nods yes, and Ozzie sends him to the plate. 1-2-3 double play and we are all home early.

IIRC, Ozzie and Co. really liked Grilli. Also he was a rule V, meaning we couldn't option him if we took him off the roster and designated him for assignment, he had to clear waivers, right? If anyone knows how this works I would like to know, just because I know we thought highly of him at one point

Just think we were considering Grilli as a No. 5 starter and Ben Davis as the starting catcher.

Yikes

That's what the media doesn't realize about the Carlos Lee trade. Without that trade, Grilli is our number 5 starter, and here is our lineup:

Harris 2B
Rowand CF
Lee LF
Everett DH
Konerko 1B
Dye RF
Davis C
Crede 3B
Uribe SS

No Taguchi, no AJ, no Pods, no El Duque....no thanks.
