Indeed. Sox did what they had to do...and did it in a big way. An Indian loss would be nice but if the Sox keep this up, things are looking good.:bandance:

Is it indeed 5? I thought it would hold at 7 since NY lost and Boston won, so they're tied now.

Remember what Hawk said: It's all about perspective, if we act and play like Cleveland and for that matter, everyone else are the ones in trouble. We should have no problem holding them off. For the last while, we were playing like we were the ones in trouble.

To be honest I was expecting a close game that could go either way, maybe even with a loss....but none of that tonight. Thank god....they finally came out of the gates and swung away and knocked them out completely, good hitting, fielding etc. Good game all around. They seemed to be easy going and just doing IT. I love it, 8 to 1...no let down. Ha!

A dominant win. It is nice not to have to sweat down to the final out tonight.

Garcia looked much, much better. He was due. Buerhle is due also. Let's make it three in a row against these light-hitting Twinkies.

I would like to pose this question.. just so that all the people with their highs right now don't have them shattered tomorrow if the sox slip up. Does anyone think the win tonight may have had to do with Mays' recent trouble he's been in? I just hope that if that is the case, the Sox don't think they've got it back facing a rookie tomorrow night...

Awesome game. Hope to see more of it.

Got to admit though, is anyone else worried that even if the Sox go 4-1 over their next 5 games they won't win the Central?

I mean, Cleveland is 18-2 in their last 20, I can't picture them losing a game in the next week, or even in the playoffs for that matter. I think they'd have 3 straight rounds of sweeps...

I'm just worried it's too little too late. But until the last pitch is thrown...GO SOX!

Try not to worry about Cleveland until the Sox play them. If they sweep Kansas City and Tampa Bay, what can we do? We just have to win our games and then polish them off head-to-head. We are 6-1 at Jacobs Field this year. I'm hoping we'll be in a situation where one out of three is good enough. I'm pretty confident they won't sweep us.

Come on, dude.

Cleveland has been mopping up on crap opponents, and they should be thanking their lucky stars they got out of here winning that game on Monday night, or else we would have won the series.

As for this week, I have a sneaking suspicion that Tampa Bay is going to play out of their minds and do something special in Cleveland.

I'm calling for a Sox clincher on Wednesday night or Thursday afternoon.

The bullpen fully rested two nights in a row is HUGE....perfect set up for the the next five games...we need to clinch before Cleveland. BMac, Jose C., Garland and Garcia have stabilized. We need Buehrle to join them. Our offense is coming back to life....hopefully we're "re-peaking" at the right time. Best back-to-back games since the Detroit series.

That'd be something. The only team to sweep postseason play since divisional play began was the '76 Reds. I'm not expecting the '05 Tribe to do something the '72-'74 A's, the '77-'78 Yanks, the '84 Tigers, the '92-'93 Jays, and the '98 Yanks couldn't do. They don't scare me that much. In fact, I'm still not even expecting the Tribe to win the division . . .

Nice game all around tonight. Nice to have the big lead early for a change. Nice to see some clutch hits, nice to see Tad with a four-hit game...

If the Sox can build on this, we could be looking at a seven game winning streak going into Cleveland. Garcia's next start, if I'm not mistaken, is a day game in Detroit against Jason Grilli.

C'mon Mark, teach the rookie a few things tomorrow.

I do hope you're right, but I think we are going to need one win in Cleveland to wrap this up.

I think we'll win four of our next five. Tampa Bay will take one from the Tribe. That reduces the magic number to two headed into the final weekend. The Sox are going to celebrate at Jacobs Field either next Friday or Saturday.

A very important point about tonight's victory: The Sox won in front of a sold-out crowd.

You're exactly right. That was huge. The crowd was really fired up for the game too. It's too bad we had to look at the out of town score board and watch the Indians keep adding runs. I'm sure the place would have been absolutely bananas if KC had won. Hopefully that steady play in front of a packed house will carry on right through the remainder of the season and into late October.

Uribe looked fabulous in the field as usual. Crede's swing looks better than it ever has. Dye is locked in. We can breathe easy for a few hours now. Whew.

Yeah, what was that clown doing there? I saw him on TV in the middle of the seventh. In fact, I saw a number of people with Cubs gear on tonight.

Ahh well, as far as I am concerned it doesnt matter. They are contributing money to the SOX coffers and looking like clowns in the meantime!

Anyway, that is getting a little close to 'Whats the Score?'.

Great game by Freddy, allowing 1 run in 8 solid innings. Our bullpen should be ready to go if needed on 2 solid days rest. At this point we need all our starters to show up and pitch like this. Every pitch counts and I hope Buerhle and Garland can recpature some of the magic they had before the All-Star break.

This is going right down to the wire but I have confidence the SOX can pull it off!

It was nice to see some of the hitters like PK go to the opposite field. I wish Carl Everett would do the same except the opposite field I'm thinking of is called Wrigley. How many K's has he had this month?
According to the SCORE, Carl was upset about being moved down the order. I say give some of the kids a chance to hit. I'm sure they can K too. Bench Carl and let him go work in the cages.

It was because the cubs played in the afternoon. There were many clowns at the game yesterday who came from the cubs game. They just like the fact they can drink beer for 8 hours straight. My first win at The Cell this year!! :D: I finally got that loser monkey off my back. I went to the game with an old friend of mine, Louis, who came here from Pontiac, MI just to go to the game with me. He had more confidence in the Sox than I did. He called the win before we even got there. He also called Dye's homer and several of the key hits in that big White Sox third.

The game was great, the fireworks were great, and the lottery thing... (well, I can't complain because Louis liked that crap). Needless to say, I had a great time today.

We'll be at the game tomorrow, and the good news is, Louis has predicted another win.

What an excellent game to go to (boooooooooooooooooo to the Illinois Lottery guys taking so long to do that "Road to Riches" gig after the game, pushing back the fireworks).

The 3rd was exhillarating to say the least...Seeing the first five reach base (and score). The place was up for grabs when Dye hit his home run! Crede got some love as well for his. We batted around AND SCORED THE OPTIMAL NUMBER OF RUNS while doing it!!!

That was my final game to go to until the playoffs, and I'm feeling kind of sentimental about that...I never thought we'd be seeing this type of a season when I signed my paper for my season ticket package at the beginning of the year. So many memories, hopefully the BEST memory comes in just over a month!

So many memories, hopefully the BEST memory comes in just over a month!I thought the lottery thing was hilarious. For those who missed it, they went through a lot of BS to eventually narrow the field down to three people who were given 3 foot high scratch off cards to determine who won what. They gave them paint scrapers to work with and after about 5 minutes of heavy scraping not one of them had put so much as a scratch on the cards. They kept substituting one tool for another but 5 minutes later - still nothing. I was waiting for someone to come out with a belt sander. Finally someone got hold of a can opener and managed to wear away whatever the coating was. I don't know what that stuff was, but they should use it on the space shuttle.

Amazing what playing your regulars can do  I predicted that they rip off 5 or 6 in a row after the Santana game. Win and you're in.

Nice game! Crede and that bottom of the order coming through will be huge for us in the postseason, and Pods seems to be slowly but surely coming back to form, at least offensive wise, as is Iguchi. Dye has the hot stick again aswell. A little hard to watch the last couple of weeks, but it could've been the best to get hot at the right time.

Nice to have any easy win for once.
I noticed one or two players who seem to have more focus.
It seems that Pods is trying to drive the ball more now that he has trouble stealing bases and when Dye is spraying the ball to all fields he is right where he should be.
Now if Buehrle can just get back to form,we can start having some fun.
I believe that this team is coming back together, and its a good thing because i have no doubt whatsoever that next weekends series is going to name the division winner.

Actually, if you wait for the Lotto prize to be greater than ~$10.2 million, or the Mega prize to be greater than ~$176 million, then you're getting an odds overlay on your single dollar ticket purchase. Let the mathematically inept build the pot, then take your shot when you have an overlay.

It's only fun to gamble when the proceeds go to charity... Like those 50/50 raffles they have at some of the games.

I agree. Buy your White Sox Charities "split the pot" raffle tickets today!

And thank you, Fielder Jones, for a nicer way of phrasing my point.

Back to baseball . . . I hope this won't remain the last post-game thread for the rest of the day . . .

I just got back home to Iowa City from the Bears game (gross!), but I was at the Sox game Saturday night and it was one of the most fun I have ever had at a game. If anyone was at the game I was the guy who won the XM radio contest. They picked three people before the game to pump up the crowd after the 4th inning. Luckily I got to go last and I was so pumped up already about the game that when it was my turn I just went crazy, threw off my shirt and started waving it around my head. If you were in the stands thanks for cheering for me and helping me win! The intensity level of the crowd at that game was awesome and with the way the team has played the past few days the future is looking bright for the South Side.

Back when the mafia ran the lottery (or as was known back then as the numbers racket) they paid $0.75 on the dollar (while the state gives less than $0.50). They would use the last three numbers of the total mutual handle at the race track as the winning number (which was published daily in the newspaper so that everyone who played knew the winning numbers).

Yeah, we "voted" for you! Can't remember what the song was for the life of me though.

Fantastic time at the park Saturday night. What a 3rd inning! THAT was more like it! Freddie pitched probably the best we've seen him do all year.

My ex called my daughter all excited because they showed a great closeup of us in the 9th inning. My Cub fan sister (just "happened" to be watching) saw it and called me today...and I didn't tape it.

WooWoo didn't bother me, the lottery stuff didn't bother me - nothing could bother me when the Sox are playing like that - it felt THAT good to be there.

And I didn't get that end-of-season blues feeling leaving either because I know we'll be back. GO SOX!!!!
