I have to take credit for the win since I posted that I was fed up with the choke down the stretch and that these guys failed their gut check. I followed it up with the comment that maybe THAT would turn things around. Whoever the mod is who removed it, you will notice that we scored after I posted it, and the Indians tied it AFTER you removed it. The Sox didn't score until AFTER I had calmed down from my reaction to your gross negligence in doing that.

Thank you, Joe Crede!

Great play by Uribe! Clutch double by Carl! Gutsy job by Hermanson.

On a side note, I started watching the game as usual, but after two innings I just couldn't take any more of Hawk. So I turned down the sound on TV and turned on Rooney on the radio. Immediately it was as if a great weight was lifted off my chest and my mood and outlook immediately brightened. Joe Crede may also have had a little bit to do with that.

Anyway, two games off the magic number and back to 3-1/2 up. Let's win the series tomorrow! :gulp:

Go White Sox!!! :bandance: :bandance: :bandance: :bandance: :bandance:

I **** you not I was sitting here with a 1-2 count on Aaron watching mlb.tv and following the chat when my cable internet went TOTALLY kaput. I spent the next 5 minutes trying to fix, the next 10 waiting for it to scroll the bottom of the screen on ESPN and the next 10 trying again ultimately deciding that I will borrow my neighbor's wireless internet.

That is the best game I've seen all year, by far. It felt like the ALCS. I honestly believe these are the two best teams in the AL.

Funniest moment of the game: A.J. stepping on Aaron Boone's arse rounding 3rd. That ranks right up there with Timo flipping the bird to Uribe as funniest moment of the season.:D:

Man, what a game.

From the highest highs (AJ stepping on Boone's back...yes!, Juan's play to end the 9th) to the lowest lows (*cough*Aaron Rowand*cough, not to mention the goddamned WALKS) and in between...I was beginning to think with the bullpen mostly cashed the Sox wouldn't pull this out in extra innings. Hermanson delivered in the 10th, and what can you say about Jizzoltin Jizzoe ****ing Crede? Man of the hour if not the year.

THIS was the game of the year.

THIS was a must-win, in retrospect.

A win tomorrow, and the Sox will be in that proverbial Catbird Seat for the division title.

A win tomorrow, and suddenly Cleveland might find themselves in second place for the Wild Card, putting added pressure on them down the stretch, pressure that may manifest itself in Jose Hernandez-esque plays against crummy teams like the Royals. Hint hint.

My heart can't take much more of this. Good thing I'm going to the game tomorrow, right?

:gulp:

Taliesinrk

no, because (as already mentioned) it was in extra innings not regulation.

In my chapter house at school we have a lot of Cardinal, Cub, Sox and even one die hard Toons fan. And all of us were glued to the friggin screen for the entire game. We skipped the bars completely and just sat there screaming and yelling and sweating and jumping around. I said in a post last night that something nuts would happen, and although it was not a blow out or a Cy Young Mark B outing, I'll take it. Christ Im exhausted. This is playoff baseball pretty much, and unlike previous years, the White Sox stood up and won even when he cards were stacked against them. That was heart out there tonight pure and simple.
And Ive been watching the Sox for around a 12 years now, and this has to be one of the most intense non-stop gut wrenching games ive ever seen...period. Ahhhh screw it, im going to get hammered.

I think the mods rolled it into the gameday thread. AJ ripped the double just after you posted it

I was pacing around my apartment living room by myself sweating the whole game. I unexpectedly drank 4 beers and about a whole bag of doritos just because I was nervous. I was also clutching a pillow for the whole 2nd half of the game. I took out all my anger on this pillow. Then a man named Joe Crede stepped up to the plate. And as he's done so many times before, he delivers a towering game winning shot into the left field seats.

I love this team. I love this game.

I'm still stunned. I mean Buehrle didn't have it again, the bullpen blew it again, Rowand's play in the 9th inning was stupifying, yet somehow they won what may turn out to be the biggest game of the season.

I hope they can use the emotional lift and put together a complete game tomorrow with good pitching, hitting and defense to take the series. They can't come out flat and need to be sharp.

I have no idea how they won this game but I thank fate, luck, God whoever or whatever you want to call it that they did. (and no that's not an insult to the Sox...sometimes it's better to be lucky then good!)

Tomorrow is another big game because, if we win, it puts all the pressure back on Cleveland. They'll pretty much have to forget about the division and start looking up at the scoreboard to see what the Yankees and BoSox are doing.

One thing I've noticed about the Indians is their defense is far from flawless. When we chased the Twins the last few years, you could always count on Torii Hunter stealing a homer or Guzman making a huge play up the middle. Ron Belliard and Jhonny Peralta almost made two errors in an inning, giving up a bunch of runs. Yesterday, Casey Blake's error led to 3 runs. The only good fielder on the team is Aaron Boone. Even Sizemore misjudges the ball a lot. Rowand did it tonight too, but we've all seen how great Rowand can be out there.

Yep. Cleveland is red hot right now. That's why they won all those games early this month. But make no mistake, that team has a horseshoe up its ass. They committed two more errors tonight and they're damned lucky they didn't get put away even sooner, thank you very much Mr. Gas Can Howry.

Minnesota had the look and feel of a real championship team. Nothing came easy against those guys. However this outfit just looks lucky. And I'm not surprised the horseshoe finally dropped out of their ass in tonight's game. They'll need to pick it up off the ground and swallow it if they intend to keep winning like they were.

Cmon, Luck had nothing to do with it. They were behind three times tonight then came back to tie it three separate times, then take the lead late in the game, only to be tied again, then to hold on and win it with pithing, key D (Crede, Juan), and some critical offense and a killer walk off HR from Joe.

And guess who's ass the horseshoe dropped out of?
:roflmao:

:walk
<sniff> <sniff> "I hate you Sox fans."

Even if they do have a horseshoe up their ass, they are a very good team. This isn't just smoke and mirrors. They have all the talent that they need right there. It's not a surprise that they've played so well lately. The bigger surprise was the way they struggled early in the year. The Indians will be a force in the AL Central for years to come. The Twins will probably bounce back and I think the Tigers will improve so this division figures to be a very tight race in the coming years. We're not going to be seeing any double digit leads by any AL Central team in the next few years.

I'm still stunned. I mean Buehrle didn't have it again, the bullpen blew it again, Rowand's play in the 9th inning was stupifying, yet somehow they won what may turn out to be the biggest game of the season.

Just got back from the most incredible game I've ever been to. The excitement in the park, despite a good deal of fans leaving after the 9th, was absolutely electric after the Crede homer. This will always be "The Crede Game" to me, despite the fact that Juan played as big of a role on both offense and defense. The left side of the diamond is completely immune now.

I think Aaron owes Joe and Juan about 10 dozen golf balls apiece after his costly, costly miscue in the 9th. I've never seen him misplay a ball that badly before. However, I don't want to dwell on that right now. It was a roller-coaster game and that was merely a huge drop down before we swung right back up again.

And Paulie, well, I stand by what I said about him yesterday in regards to hitting w/ runners on in the clutch. But let's not dwell on that, either.

So for Juan Uribe, Joe Crede, Cliff Politte, Dustin Hermanson, AJ for the STOMP (!!!) and anyone who I'm forgetting, Here's to ya:

:gulp::gulp::gulp::gulp::gulp::gulp::gulp::gulp::g ulp::gulp:

EDIT to say, Sox have now won the last 15 games I've attended. If it comes down to it, I'll be going to Cleveland at the end of the season, expensive college courses be damned.

Perhaps something that has gone overlooked in the awesome victory was Peralta's broken bat in the seventh that, in response, the first/third base coach darted out to the mound as to make sure a small fragment was promptly secured by “friendly” hands.

D.J. said he had never seen anything like that happen, Hawk responded by saying “makes you think”. D.J. then invoked memories of the Albert Bell stolen bat episode when he played with the Indians, in a game against the Sox.

There may be an ancillary story to the Indians’ “hot bats”.

Howry is one of the main reasons why Cleveland doesn't scare me as much as they otherwise might. In fact I was pulling Outcast's chain about him Sunday night.

I'm *glad* Bob Howry pitches for the Tribe. I know that guy well, and he's a great addition to our closest division rival.

Not to mention we gave Bob "gascan" Howry his first blown save of the year and first earned run of the second half. Serves you right for opening your fat mouth, you pig****er!

Lets win a game tomorrow where we shut down the Cleveland offense for a change. They have us playing their game (slugfest) - I think it's time to turn the table and go back to beating them OUR way. Do it, JG.

What a roller coaster of emotions this game was! The Sox clawing their way back to tie it, tie it again, and eventually take the lead on the "AJ Tramples Boone" play. I agree with whoever it was upstream that the AJ play may become this year's "Torii Tramples Burke" play as an emotional rallying point.

On the flip side, it was so damn frustrating watching the Sox blow opportunity after opportunity. Did they not leave 2 men on base for 4 innings in a row at one stretch? Not to mention the bases juiced later on? I was felling pretty negative after that, thinking that the Sox had blown their chance, and I told my son so. Maybe less than 5 mins later, Crede's bomb brought the game to a happy abrupt end. "Nice loss, Dad" chortled my son, seizing after chance he gets to prove me wrong (since at age 12 you pretty much know everything), but I told him I have never been happier to be wrong.

C'mon Jon, put a dagger in their heart tomorrow night!

I do not know how many will read but I have to tell this story.

So I am at the game with my wife tonight, usually if the Sox are behind in the game and are coming up to bat, I may get up and get a beer or go to the bathroom. They usually score a run or at least get some runners on base while I am gone. First time I did this tonight, boom the first Crede HR. The second time I did this Crazy Carls ball gets stuck in the fence. So I stay the rest of the way till the Indians bat in the 10th. After their last out I say to my wife let's go. So, we leave the ball park through the Club. I am in the parking lot hand my wife the keys so I can use the portajohn just South of the ballpark. I am in the john and I hear the crowd just go nuts, and I new Crede had just hit the winner. Before the fireworks can even go off I am running out of the john, and hugging my wife in the parking lot like it was the World Series. What a night.:supernana:

Just got home, WHAT A ROLLERCOASTER, WOW! Unbelievable ending, a mixture of heartbreak, nice defense, horrible defense, this game had everything! Obviously Crede, Uribe (how about the defensive play??), AJ, PK, etc came up huge. The low point/pick to suck was Rowand, who was picked up by Uribe's play, then gave it away with his defense again, and was bad at the plate. Justs a bad game I suppose. Great atmoshpere afterwards, I'm emotionally and vocally spent.

Also, I was randomly laughing my ass off/and looking angrily as I looked down at the scout seats, who did I see but Yellow M&M  Obviously, thoughts of the last time I saw him at a game during the opening series against Cleveland and the Shingo game, but I suddenly forgot about him, and though it was edgy, it felt like you knew we could pull it out.

Oh, by the way, I love Joe Crede!

EDIT: And another best part was the Sox sticking it to the pathetic Flub fans in the row in front of me who spent $40 a pop on tickets to cheer against the Sox while the Flubs were getting handed it to them. And of course to the couple rows of Indians fans who have probably already proclaimed their love for Hafner on this board, and did it throughout the whole game

Smash in the hole...Crede dove at it, but couldn't come up with it. Uribe is moving to his right, grabs the ball despite Crede having been nearly obstructing his vision, and fired a strike to Iguchi to get an out at second and nearly a shot at the doubleplay. It was a fantastic job by Uribe to block out the distraction and get a key out.

I think we played a better all around game last night, but I'll take the split through the 1st 2 games. WE gave alot of opportunities away, but we battled and made some big time plays as well tonight.

Uribe play incredible!

Joe clutch twice!

Hermanson clearly hurting showed big cojones!

Crede solid at third defensively

Uribe & Crede picking up Rowand two missteps (one at bat , one in the Field)

Overall a great win. We have a depleted pen for game 3, so hopefully Garland comes out strong. GO SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know about anyone else but the play he made in the eighth inning, which I'm assuming is the one he was talking about, was much more important.

Uribe went to his right and made an off-balanced throw which was right on the mark. While the throw was in the air, all I could think about was Paulie's comments about how good Royce Clayton was while he was here.

Amazing play.

I think everyone is talking about the other play Uribe made - in the 8th.

Runners on 1st and 3rd, Sox up by one, 2 outs. The ball was hit about 3/4 of the way between second and third. Uribe fielded the ball (by the way, Rafael Furcal is the only other shortstop who would have even come close to getting it) made a leap and threw a perfect strike to first to get Coco Crisp by a step.

It is one of the best plays I have ever seen. If not for us giving up the lead in the 9th, we would remember that play as one of the biggest all season. The ball was so deep into the hole that it was doubtful Uribe could get to it. He made a perfect throw to get one of the fastest men in baseball, and it kept the tying run from scoring. You might see a replay on ESPN (although they didnt make it a webgem), but if Derek Jeter made that play, they would literally show it 5 times an hour for the next 5 years.

Back from the park at 11:30, done watching the Tivo game by 12:40 . . . Life is good.

Unbelievable finish to a draining game. I've been on the Uribe bandwagon since April '04, and he repaid Ozzie's faith in him with the biggest play of the year to nab Crisp at first. Likewise Crede (though I've never quite jumped on that bandwagon), a guy who's supposedly out there mainly for his glove. In a game situation right now, I'd as soon see either of them at bat as anyone but Konerko.

Buehrle pitched pretty well against the hottest lineup in baseball. The long ball nearly killed him. Politte was huge, Jenks had some tough luck but got burned by the walk. Hermanson pitched a gutty inning.

Cleveland's defense reminds me of ours in years past. Sucky, in other words. The errant flip by Peralta and the wild toss by Hernandez was a joke. Almost as funny as AJ stepping on Boone to score.

Beat 'em tomorrow and there's no looking back.

I too just got back, after a trip to Maxwell's.

I think most of the fans who went can agree that this was the most mentally draining game they've ever attended. From leaving tons of guys on bases to leaving Politte in. From Uribe's play to Jenks blown save. From the errors from the Indians to Blake's homers. And the walkoff...oh my...This game just had it all. In our section, we even had a Cubs fan who was escorted by security.

It also seemed like the crowd started to get into it during the seventh inning or so or every time Paulie stepped up to the plate.

I think I saw Marte warming up in the pen. I know everyone booed when Guillen visited Politte and everyone around me was afraid that overworked damaso was going to come in.

Well we really need all of you to come tommorow. I was talking with the ticket person at the booth and he said tommorow they'll be more people but still there will be plenty of good seats available. I want to see a packed house! I'm blowing off a movie screening to watch them again.

Also a quick story: I was about to leave for the bathroom but I told my friends "I bet you Crede will hit a homerun while I take a whiz". I was making my way up the steps and I hear a loud cheer. I turnaround, the crowd is all on their feet going nuts and the players were already at home plate.....

When I saw that ball hit live I thought that there was absolutely no way Uribe had a play, I seriously could not believe it when I saw his throw going across the diamond, I mean I have no clue how he got ANYTHING on that throw. I mean 999/1000 times, that ball short hops the first baseman and the runner is safe and thus the go-ahead run scores. Uribe has proven all year long that he has a gun, no doubt about that. His previous best was that play/throw he made in Detroit back in July that saved the game that the sox ended up winning in 13. But this play is 100 times better, if thats possible. I mean it was just amazing to me. All you have to do is watch this play over and over and break it down. Look how far in the hole he was!!! How close to 3rd base he was!!! And the next time you see it, watch closely how quickly he goes from fielding the ball (backhanded by the way!) to transfering the ball to his throwing hand and then releasing! It seriously is unbelievable. I dont know if it is something we can appreciate at full speed, but the slow motion replay is unreal. I have no clue how he made the transfer so quickly and then in one motion he throws a STRIKE to first with his whole body carrying into left-field. You seriously have to be kidding me!!! That was just um..........................sorry but i dont have words for it.................well just one....WOW!!!
