................is "The Answer."

Really.

I was at the Sunday Angels game, and I am believer. When I saw him warming up in the First (I was in 147), I knew Ozzie was getting ready to dump Hernandez from the rotation. When Ozzie called the Bullpen after the Angels were retired in the Second and had The Answer continue warming up, I knew he was coming into the game in the Third. His performance was magnificent!:bandance:

I really think he should be called BMac (= Big Mac) and do commercials for McDonald's.

I was calling him that earlier this season, some people were tired of the "JLo" type of nicknames. I feel the same way, it's lazy. Also, "BMac" sounds like Bernie Mac.

I understand where people were coming from with that, but I can recall a number of people with "Mc" or "Mac" as part of their last name having a nickname with "MACK" in it.

Brandon's screenname here is BMAC3520.

I too hate the massive influx of the first-initial+first-syllable nicknames being made so popular by creative sports anchors such as linda cohn et al.

However, in McCarthy's case, I think BMac sounds the best and is the most natual, for me anyway. Probably because of the Mc=Mac part of his name. And the letter 'B', it wouldn't work as well with a 'K' or something like that.

Not so much of a fan of 'The Answer' just because everytime I hear it I'll think of Iverson.

WHO THE HELL CARES ABOUT NICKNAMES? Seriously folks, this is the pressure time of the year. I'm about to implode. And you're worried about nicknames? Is his nickname going to make a difference in how the Sox play?

I hope he comes up with some good quotes in interviews so then they'd be McCarthyisms

The Senator. Much more original and creative than BMac. Furthermore I would like to decree that Rowand no longer be known as Arow, if you wan't to give Rowand a nickname call him "Crash".

'The Wave' should be his name. He is the first starting pitcher farm hand to make a wave of difference since Buehrle. Remember Kenny said something about 3 waves of pitchers coming to the big leagues? He is the one!

Nicknames just kind of happen, I don't think people sit around brainstorming nicknames. Well apparently people do, they post in this thread.

Hey, he does not have a copyright on it. Also, there were times his nickname should be "The Problem."

I'm thinking "Elliot Ness" is a good one.

Back in 2001, Berman kept trying to get people to call Luis Gonzalez "LuGo" of all the stupid things. However, he already was "Gonzo," so eventually Berman had to cut it out.

I guess what I'm saying is, be prepared. Once we get going in the playoffs, I guarantee Berman will come up with something that he--and ONLY he--thinks is a total crackup.

And we will all hate it. :o:
