I don't know if you guys watch this between st. louis and us but we have the best record in baseball by a few percentage points again. I hope we finish up the year with the best record. Oh yeahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

"Officially" they are tied with St. Louis. But the way they count these things is pretty stupid, since winning pct should matter more.

I agree. And as of tonight, the Sox have a winning percentage of .630, and the Cardinals' is .629.

Sorry, Tony. See you in October.

It has no bearing on us wheter or not the Cardinals have a better percentage or we do. We have home field in the series because the AL kicked the **** out of the NL as usual, thanks to Bud.

Live in the NOW people... The world might explode before the playoffs even get here...I think you may be wasting your time. These Dark Cloud people are living in the now for them. They enjoy being miserable. They live to be depressed. :redneck

Who says we can't win the World Series AND have the best record? :D: Hey, while you're taking my order, give me a rookie of the year, manager of the year, Cy Young, GM of the year and a couple of gold gloves....

I can't say I can remember it being September and the Sox having the best record in baseball. Cheers to that :gulp:

Think back to 2000, until the San Francisco Giants took that away in the last couple of weeks.

I can: 1983, 1993, 2000.

Although we never finished the year with the best record...

Who needs the best record? As long we're the last ones standing in late October, that's all I care about.

Check that.

In 1983, we finished with the best record in MLB
In 1993, we never had the best record in September
In 2000, we had the best record on 9/23

What's the Score section of my post: I usually watch ESPNEWS and listen to some sports radio to stay updated on breaking stories. When we gave up the best record, the networks had no problem proclaiming the Cardinals the best in baseball or the team with the best record in baseball, granted, it was deserved. That said, I never, okay maybe raringly, heard that before our team name when we had the honor, that's if we even do make the highlights. Conspiracy maybe, but I see it!

After looking at the espn link posted, wow, the numbers are eeriley similar, including the splits and stats (but not 'strk' ! :D: )

Also, at 36 games over this is the highwater mark for the year. Sox were 35 over somewhere around Aug 10.

The losing streak has been wholly counteracted.

jfinsocal, welcome to WSI!

we're up one in the loss column to the Cards, but as mentioned earlier today, it's much more important to have the best AL record as it could mean something, i.e., home field for ALCS

I agree with a lot of people that I want homefield throughout in the AL. Even though we are the best road team in baseball I'd still rather stay out of Fenway. But as far as the best record in baseball is concerned, its nothing but a title. It gets you no reward and has no bearing on anything come playoff time. I'd rather be playing solid fundamental baseball the last few weeks of the season (although wins come with that)

Best record is meaningful for us against the Angels, Athletics and Boston because it is very difficult for the Sox to win in those parks. The A's swept the Sox in Chicago this year too, of course, but historically the Sox have done well against the A's at home. If it's the Yankees or Indians, I'd rather play on the road, where the Sox have been better.
