I'm sure this is just in case of an emergency if Crede can't make it back and we have problems with either Blum or Ozuna.

"There's some numbness, but it went OK," Crede said after taking grounders with infielders Pablo Ozuna and Geoff Blum and Rowand, the Sox's center fielder who played third part-time during his freshman year at Cal State-Fullerton 10 years ago.
With two available backups to the position, there doesn't seem to be a chance that Rowand would be needed. I wonder if Ozzie is trying to figure out a way to... actually I can't figure it out.

Rowand might have just been messing around. He's good friends with Crede, so maybe he was just talking with Crede and decided to have a little fun at the same time by taking grounders at 3B. :dunno:

And the media runs away with it... hmmm.... yeah that makes plenty of sense.

Huh? The media didn't run away with it. That's not even the main story of the article. It's an article about Crede that just happens to make two brief references to Rowand taking ground balls at third base.

You're right. I ran away with it.

I ran away with it in my head this morning too. Rowand at third opens a spot in center...

"Where's he gonna...wait, he can play in CF!"

:DJ

"Too late for that, partner."

This will ALWAYS make me take Harrelson's comments with a grain of salt.

Is this Ozzie's way of getting Anderson permanently into the line up?

I thought he was going to do that by playing Dye at first?

Clearly a way to get both Harris and Iguchi in the lineup

Actually it leaves room for Timo and Borchard, and heck with Dye at first, they can both play! I hear McCarthy is practicing a bit at catcher too just so that he can at least be involved in the pitching so Ozzie can get the media off his back about using him and so he can keep his 5 starters happy.

I remember back in the early '70's I used to see Walt Williams taking grounders at 3B before games. I guess some outfielders just like to take infield practice either for fun or to loosen up. According to DJ, it helps stretch out the arm.

I would hope that Kenny Williams, of all people, would be cognizant of the dangers involved in moving a career outfielder to third base.

What's wrong with putting athletic players at different positions for pratice? I think it's a great idea, even if not meant to be anything more than a backup plan in an extreme emergency. It can do nothing but help (unless you try to put a guy like Frank at SS or something).

I think Rowand's just doing this to have a little fun, loosen up the arm and poke a little fun at Crede. You gotta switch get a taste at different positions every once in a while, either to take a break from the regular position or as backup.

Normal type of crap I have come to expect from the Cubune!
As usual, non-news.

Normally the Sox take batting practice before the gates to the park are open and then the visitors take BP, but yesterday it was the Sox. Rowand was at shortstop most of BP and he and Willie were practicing their double play throws. Pretty funny stuff, Man Soo was at first and Aaron really needs to work on this throws to first.
