In the sweepstakes to replace Mel Stottlemyre, don't count out Nardi Contreras, says Newsday. The Yankees' pitching coach in 1995, Contreras is in the first season of a three-year, $360,000 deal to oversee the organization's pitchers.

Wow, just wow! How could any team consider having him as a pitching coach again?? Torn labrum anyone???

Wow, I knew Nardi was with Seattle before he came to the Sox, but I forgot he was the Yankees pitching coach in '95.

Nardi....you're kidding right? Has George finally gone senile???

Nardi if you are hired, I wouldn't take out a long term lease on a NYC apartment!

So, they're going to replace the worst pitching coach in baseball with the worst pitching coach not in baseball? Attaboy, Georgey. If the Yankees wanted to actually see a return on the whopping investment they've made in this pitching staff, they would call Leo Mazzone and give him an offer he couldn't refuse to leave Atlanta. Nardi isn't going to get anymore out of the guys they have than Stottlemyre has.

You guys better start praying that's what the Yankees are planning, because I heard somewhere that they might try to go after Coop.

That would make a lot more sense than this sportsline report. I just can't imagine how Nardi could ever get another job! But lets hope they hire Nardi instead of Coop.:gulp:

That was posted here a couple of weeks ago. It was the suggestion of a Daily News columnist that Coop would be a good guy to have. There wasn't any actual indication from the Yankees that they were interested in him.

The thought of our old buddy Nardi in NY pinstripes is enough to make me giggle. It's probably bull ****, but it doesn't cost anything to dream! :D:

Did Steinbrenner come up with the idea of hiring Nardi
or was that Larry David doing his best Steinbrenner??:D: :D:
(Larry David was the voice of Steinbrenner on "Seinfeld").
