Just saw this on Espn. If he is out for an extended period of time, this is good news for Buehrle or Garland to win the CY. Also if we face the Angels in the playoffs, and he is unavailable, that wouldn't hurt either.

Heh. I don't know why people always get on him for being fat.

This is huge. If he's out, that makes Garland the frontrunner for the award.

I think we now know why the Sox wouldn't guarantee a
4th year on his contract.Having weight issues myself,
I know a fat ass when I see one.Bartolo Colon is a fat ass.:D: :D:

Not certain that the Cy Young thing is relevant right now. The impact appears to be on the pennant race. If he's out this puts the A's in a very strong position for the West division and perhaps handing the Wild Card to the Yankees or the Indians.

I agree - actually we have to sign Garland long term if we want to keep him (and he is arbitration eligible next season) and a Cy Young will bump his price - BIG TIME.

I think Santana wins it. I really don't care. I just want team awards.

I completely agree. I've spent a lifetime following Sox seasons memorable for everything BUT team awards. I could care less about any of them.

Screw Cy Young, MVP, ROY, Gold Gloves and all the rest, too.

This season it's all about championships. I want exactly three:

Division.
League.
World.

FWIW, ESPN's Cy Young Predictor has Mariano Rivera in the lead. I can't see that happening, though. If Colon is out, I think Buerhle is the guy, though if Garland puts together another start like he did today, watch out...

Santana is going to be playing on a third place team soon... he's been brilliant in the second half this year, but he won't win it over a guy whose team makes the playoffs.

But in the end, this is the only trophy that matters:

From ESPN's recap of the game:

"Colon (18-6) allowed two runs and five hits in five-plus innings, struck out five and walked none. He came out because of tightness in his lower back, but the right-hander still won his career-best seventh consecutive decision.

"It feels very tight," said Colon, who received electrical stimulation before the game. "The last four days it's been getting real tight on me. Massage should take care of it."

Oh yeah... just goes to show how much I've forgotten about the Twins already. This has been a fantastic season, hasn't it?

Sports writers vote for Cy Young.

Translation : Unless Buehrle and Garland really turn it on and finish the season STRONG, Mariano wins it.

Bartolo Colon wins it unless Buehrle, Garland, or Santana throw something close to a no-hitter. But I really don't care.

Sports Writers vote for it but voting for a closer isnt very popular... Yes Gagne won it not 2 long ago but what he did was one of the few cases when a closer actually deserved it.

It's like I told somebody a month or so ago about the Sox signing David Wells: "He was old, fat, and had a bad back. I'm old, fat, and have a bad back, and I wouldn't hire me to pitch."

The funny thing is that Bart has really slimmed down this year - last year, he was the human balloon, but I think his awful start motivated him to get in shape - and he did, which is one of the reasons I think he's been terrific this year.

I haven't heard much about his back on the sports stations here in LA, so I doubt it's serious.

I've already set up a crow smorgasboard that we can all eat from.
Sometimes it's nice to be wrong, and this might be the guy that I was most wrong about in my life.

Gagne won it because there weren't any NL starters near 20 wins, and he was Eric Gagne that year.
