It's true.. they're both 61-68 20.5 games behind the Cardinals. I don't think the Pirates can catch the cubs, but I wonder what kind of spin the cubune and co will put on the season now. All I can say is I'm lovin' it.:bandance: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/standings/index.jsp

Time to change the flags at the urinal. This house near where I live has been flying a blue flag with a white L on it for a few days now. Keep flying it with pride.

Haha. The L flag on Perryville road is probably starting to disintegrate.

All this means is that the Cubune will have to lengthen their wild card standings some more.

Actually, it's a tie for 4th... you'd look at it as a tie for 5th if you really hated the cubs like I do.

pretty good for a team with $100 million payroll. Crusty Baker is a lock for NL manager of the year and Jim Hendry for executive of the year.

Woah, I've never seen it before, where is it?

Wow. Now part of me wants Junior to stay there so he can help the Reds push those punks further down in the standings.

what the hell is with that? why do they fly an "L" flag on the scoreboard?? (despite the obvious)

I found it amusing that the Trib has the scrubs listed, even though they're seven out.

You are probably right, although I can't see how even the Cubune can still put the Cubs in the Wild Card race anymore. Even Cubs fans, who six weeks ago thought their team was going to catch St. Louis, know the season is over. How can the Cubs catch Florida or the Phillies when they can't catch the Brewers and are as bad as the Reds?

And with the Sox on the west coast, I almost took a drive down to Cincinnati to catch a game at the new park there. Would've been sweet to see them catch and/or pass the Cubs while I was there!

Actually, you have it backwards. The "W" flag is 20 years old, the "L" flag was bought last Thursday to replace the one purchased in early August. It is just a matter of use, not age, that makes one look new and the other old and worn.

Let's just say this: The Tribune feeds on this misguided faith by Cubs fans that "this year is our year." Hell, they don't just feed on it. They have to help create it. The funny thing is how many Cubs fans are such morons that they can't see that the emperor has no clothes. I think you just gave me a topic for part of a column this week.

This year will be blamed on one or more of the following:

1. Dusty Baker - Cubune wants him out, but doesn't want to pay him $4M for next year. Dusty wants out, but still wants his $4M, since, y'know, he's one of the "top managers" in baseball (according to himself).

2. Injuries

I think 2006 will be a very trying year on the North Side, what with an aging Greg Maddux coming back, a questionable Carrie Woods, and a whole lot of holes in their bullpen and offense.
