Hey thats what this board is here for, for us to let of some steam with fans when we are dissapointed in our team, can't always be bed of roses, weeds will grow eventually...was I po'd last night? Yes! But as a fan I think I hold the right to be...I spent a lot of time and money on the Sox this year and when they are performing badly, I vent....but it doesn't mean I don't still love the Sox...my kids act up I yell at them too because I expect more of them, but I still love them too!! So yeah I couldn't sleep last night, I logged on here, got some peace of mind and went to bed! HAND RAISED

Starting pitching is the best in the American League, even if they don't have tons of playoff experience. Contreras y Garcia estan en fuego! El Duque also is fine; he pitched a great game against the Yankees. He was hurt by errors (one of which was his own), not his pitching. Buehrle and Garland are as solid as rocks.
Starting pitching...check.

Bullpen is among the best in the A.L. As long as Hermanson is healthy, we're set at closer. Politte and Marte are spectacular. Marte is a situational lefty with "closers" stuff even if he is prone to the inopportune walk or dong. Vizcaino is back on track. Jenks is a middle reliever with the brass balls of a closer as well. Adkins won't be on the playoff roster, so no worries.
Bullpen...check.

The gloves are fine. No more needs to be said. Defense doesn't go into slumps and will keep the Sox in games.
Defense...check.

Obviously I didn't see the game last night, but if eyewitness accounts are to be believed, the Sox were the victims of a great Twins defense combined with facing the defending AL Cy Young Award winner. Supposedly Konerko was robbed of an extra-base hit, perhaps even a homer. If not for the Metrodome's reversible blowers, Konerko probably would have homered and the Sox probably would have won last night. And the Sox won't face the Twins defense every night for the rest of the season! That, coupled with temperatures that soon will cool at the Cell and the impending return of Podsednik, coupled with the "regression to mean" (which works both ways, of course), together point to an improvement in the Sox ability to get on base, move runners over and score more runs.
Bats...check back soon! :redneck

Get ready for some more white knuckle games like we had in April and early May.

As I posted on another thread, the entire lineup is struggling, except Konerko. They are hitting about .160 combined over the last two weeks. That's 100 points below their average all year. It won't last. Every team in our division has gone through a stretch like this and then bounced back. It's our turn for the rough patch. Our pitching and defense are there. When the bats come back we will be fine. My hand is up in the air!

I admit, I was one who didn't want the division lead to get to big and then they don't have to play hard for the last month.

But I also don't like this.

Well, technically I wanted the sox to go about 40-20 for the last games of the year, and the indians to go about 55-5, just to keep pushing the sox. I didn't want to have the sox be pushed like this.

I am with 1917. We fans need to vent sometimes, and the losing streak only brought nightmares of late season collapses and playoff disappointments.

But I also agree with many other posters who point out the obvious that it is much better to be in first as compared to past seasons when the Sox just didn't contend. To me the true indication of how good a team is is where they are on September 1. On September 1, the Sox will be in first. Anxiety or no anxiety, (and I am still nervous) it is so much better to speculate about playoff chances than to wonder what went wrong. Again.

And by the way, if a fan turns stops watching a game because the Sox are down by a few runs going into the ninth, he/she are making a mistake. This team doesn't have the greatest offense, but they don't give up. Frustrated as I have been during the losing streak, I never thought it was because of a lack of effort. This is one of my all-time favorite Sox teams.
