This is the same guy who could barely contain his joy when he and his sidekick Jerry "Organizations Win Championships Not Players" Krause [aka Crumbs] dismantled the greatest sports dynasty in Chicago history. I really could care less what he has to say unless it is "I want to wish Oprah and her Chicago White Sox franchise all the best."

Hey Dump, whoa! Take it easy! This is not the worst idea in the world; she has the $$, she knows how to spend, and she spends many of her $$ in Chicago.

However, I have never heard that she had the slightest interest in owning a professional sports team, so this is probably just idle speculation. Certainly nothing to raise the old blood pressure over.

She was willing to put up a 1/4 of the money for a Chicago WNBA franchise.

Imagine Fan Appreciation Day if Oprah owned the Sox...

We would all get NEW CARS!

If Oprah owned the Sox our 7th inning stretches would be fat people crying about how out of shape they are, or poor people crying about how they can't support their children, or blind people crying about how they can't see, or... Well, you get the idea. Fans would get all depressed and then they'd stop serving alcohol.

Beyond Fan Appreciation night just think of the weekly promotional giveaways

Tuesday June 8: First 10,000 people get sony digital cameras

Friday July 23: Ipod Night ( In Honor of Scotty!)

Thursday August 2: Ladies night, first 12,000 women get 130 dollar spa packages

Saturday August 18: Kids day, first 5000 kids get a complete room make over featuring their favorite super hero or disney character

Granted, it would be wierd seeing our players cry after losses, but hey, She knows inspirational people too. I personally would love to go to Ipod night.

If you liked the food at Comiskey when Uncle Jerry owned the team, just wait until Oprah buys the Sox. She might not know anything about baseball, but you can guarantee our food would be second to none.

I like Uncle Jerry, he sure beats the Trib!

Why not Oprah? She has the money to buy JR 100 times over, is a national if not world-wide media darling, based in Chicago, would make the Sox darlings of the entire country [just ask any of the authors whose books she's endorsed] and with her nationwide base, she could take on the cubune like no one else. Wouldn't it be great to have an owner with virtually unlimited money, a nationwide audience every morning and the media power to fight the cubune?

FWIW: the guy who told me that Frank's season and career were over after the latest injury is a player-agent in town. He mentioned a year ago that a group that would be headed by Oprah Winfrey and Michael Jordan intended to bid on purchasing the Sox and Bulls from JR. MJ would run the Bulls and KW would run the Sox. She's a big fan of KW. I can't believe anyone would become a cub fan over this. Hillary Clinton, Ron Santo, Attila the Hun .... I could give a crap who owns the Sox as long as they care about WINNING and keep our Sox IN CHICAGO, ILLINOIS!

i can feel that, letmehearya. i'd spend whatever it takes to win. that's why as much of a blowhard that steinbrenner is, at least he puts his money into the team. unlike pohlad of the twins. he makes wirtz (blackhawks) look like santa claus.

As PHG has pointed out, gobs of money is just one factor that can make an owner successful. The other is a huge ego. Donald Trump would make a great owner because he would spend his gobs of money on front office and on-field talent and hire the best people throughout the organization (scouting, player development, etc.) to make the Sox champions.

Oprah has the money and the ego to be successful.

If it were up to me, I personally would not care if the Sox owner named the stadium after him/herself or carved his/her image into Mount Rushmore if (s)he brought a World Series win to the Sox.

You know ......... I started daydreaming about this idea for a little while this morning ..........WOW, If Oprah owned the White Sox ........ the Tribune would
Wet Their Corporate Pants. They would realize they arent the only show in town anymore. Heck, I could see her building A BETTER Comiskey, right back across the street ...... with LF Open to show a view of Downtown, bars and restaurants across the street on the other side of 35th, bustling with fans and neighborhood types, all enjoying our "unsafe" neighborhood ....

Trump does well when he sticks to real estate. His casino bankruptcies show everything he touches doesn't turn into gold.

When was the last time you watched Oprah? She is not to be lumped with Ricky Lake, Springer, Jenny Jones, and the other talk hosts.

Does this guy happen to hang out at baggage claim areas in airports and eavesdrop on conversations?

Unless she's a huge baseball fan that I'm unaware of, she would be an absentee owner and the organization would flounder. Especially if this is more of a vanity thing -- at least Reinsdorf is slightly more committed to building a winner than Oprah would be (although they've both won the same amount of championships at this point...).

This is funny because I've been saying for years that Oprah should buy the Sox. I'm not a big fan of Oprah, but she has the money, the track record of success, and the Chicago connection to be the perfect Sox owner.

Can you imagine the job KW would do if he had a major market budget to work with???

About the only two people on the planet, if they were to buy the Sox, that would turn me in to a Cub fan are Richard Simmons and that Jarod guy from the Subway commercials. Oprah may not know much about baseball (how many owners do?) but she does have money.

Assuming she had enough sense to hire or retain decent baseball people what difference would it make? And, who says she doesn't know about baseball? I have to admit I've never paid much attention to her, but it's conceivable she's a least a casual fan.
