Long time Lurker. Never mind that.

Espn has the 50 states in 50 days in Illinois today at the beloved Wrigley Field.

They have the Illinois poll ( which the results will be televised on national TV tonight)

One question should be targeted by us the Sox fan.

Favorite Pro Team.

as it stands we are trailing the cubs by less than 1 %. I'm sure you guys can help change that.

Here is a direct link. http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/fiftyfifty/polling?event_id=1431

Lets stick it to the cubs and their fans on National TV. That is all.

I saw the 50/50 Chris Berman thing on ESPN news. I am not sure if it is the same piece of crap they are going to show on SC but I don't know why they would do more than one. It didn't make 1 mention of anything Sox related. I shouldn't be suprise but I am. Shame on me.

Back to the thread. I voted a few times. We have a whole percentage point lead now. The Bartman thing is in 2nd. Miles Davis is in the middle of the pack which suprised me a little. I also thought that the Bears would be in 1st by a lot, though so that shows how much I know.

I just voted and we're now leading now 1.1%. What other votes did people cast?

I voted:
1.) Jordan's shot against Utah - Vote for that as well, it's barely ahead of Bartman.
2.) Baseball as favorite sport - running away with it.
3.) Chicago White Sox
4.) U of I basketball for favorite college team (What, no Loyola basketball? :D:) - running away with it
5.) Dick Butkus for best homegrown talent - healthy lead
6.) Frank for best in-state pro career - Even though Payton should win it, and is obviously running away with it, I just wanted to give Frank a little love since I figured Payton didn't really need the vote.
7.) Who cares about the best Cub? And why isn't there a best Sox? Where's Lou Brock?
8.) Bears-Packers rivalry - running away with it.
9.) Bill Murray
10.) Uhhh, yes, obviously....

I just voted and we're now leading now 1.1%. What other votes did people cast?
I voted:
1.) Jordan's shot was close for me, but that was our 6th championship already. Nothing (except the Sox) will ever beat winning that first one in '91. What a feeling that was. The fact that "Bartman" was mentioned specifically in that option is a joke.
2.) Baseball, duh.
3.) Chicago White Sox, duh.
4.) I went with NU football.
5.) Had to go with George Mikan- the impact he had on the NBA was unreal, and mostly unheralded.
6.) Big Hurt. Yeah, Sweetness deserves this also, but Frank needs some votes.
7.) No best Sox player...what a joke. Ernie Banks is the best Cub though.
8.) I went with an underdog here: Hawks-Wings. Yes, hockey is dead, but back in the day that rivalry was as fierce as anything in this town. Bears-Packers might deserve it as well.
9.) Bill Murray, one of my favorite actors.
10.) Yes, duh.

And since the Cubs and Red Sox are blood brothers, the Red Sox should be included in the best team question. The fact that they are not is a complete injustice to the sports world.

Arrrggghh! I just looked at the Arizona poll. For best pro team, it listed all the Ariz. teams, the Dodgers, the Lakers..and the YANKEES???? What the hell is that? Since when does Arizona border New York?

Also, under best place to watch an event, it listed Arizona stadiums such as AWA, BOB, Sun Devil Stadium...and HoHoKam Park!!!

For goodness sake, the Hawks and Sox play different sports. You can have favorite teams in different sports. The Sox happen to be my baseball team. I call myself a Hawks fanatic, Bears fanatic, and Bulls fanatic as well. Lighten up, dude...Obviously, like most people in Chicago, you root for Chicago teams. So do I (except for one). I never said you shouldn't vote for your favorite team. I think it's weird that you chose to do it on another team's board. If you had kept it to yourself we wouldn't be having this conversation.relax!Ditto!

I believe today might be the last day to vote in the ESPN 50 states poll. I've been putting in a few votes every day and the Sox are still on top as the Favorite Pro Team. However, someone is kicking in some big-time votes for the Bulls. I don't mind seeing the Bulls being in second place but I donít want to see them finish in first place. We'll need to put out one last large push if we want to keep the Sox on top.

Currently, the voting stands like this:

3) Favorite pro team?

28.6% Chicago White Sox
23.7% Chicago Cubs
18.5% Chicago Bulls
16.5% Chicago Blackhawks
12.7% Chicago Bears

If you've got some free time today, put in a few votes for the Sox. Thank you White Sox army.

Yes, this infernal poll is still going on. At present the voting for the Favorite Pro Team looks like this:

3) Favorite pro team?
28.7% Chicago White Sox
22.6% Chicago Bulls
21.8% Chicago Cubs
15.2% Chicago Blackhawks
11.6% Chicago Bears

As you can see, the Bulls have moved into second place and Bulls fans are still throwing in some big time votes late at night. I hope today will be the last day for voting as ESPN has completed the tour of the 50 states and is doing Washington DC today.

So, one more time, I'm asking everybody to show some Sox love and put some more votes in today. I'd like to see the Sox get up over the 30% mark.

Thanks for the help.

I just voted. The White Sox are currently in the lead with 29.1% of the vote.

Voted again. We're doing fine. Does anyone know where the results will be posted? In other words, is this going to be one of those things where no one will ever actually see it or hear about it?

BTW, after I voted, I went over and voted in the Arizona poll. Gaaahhhh! Arizona State beating Michigan in the 1987 Rose Bowl is a bigger deal than the D'Backs beating the Yankees in the World Series?!? I really like living here, but some of these people need serious help. (Olive Garden is considered by many to be the Best Italian Restaurant, so draw your own conclusions.)

Just cast my vote. There's no way Bartman should have more votes than Jordan's jumper. Also what's up with this greatest Cubs player ever? Keep the voting up, let's blow these guys out of the water and completely embarrass them.

In many places, unfortunately, it probably is.

My thought exactly! And--no offense to all the speed skaters out there--how is Bonnie Blair ahead of Dick Butkus?

But then again, Super Bowl XX is FOURTH?? Behind Bartman??

I hear there will be a celebration of some sort in late October - A perfect time to visit for a few days.

Now, there's a thought!

I'm just afraid I'd spend all my time at Lou Malnati's. Or Gino's East. Or Home Run Inn. Or Ambrogio's. Or Biasetti's. Or Chicago Joe's. Or Mirabell's. Or...or...STOP IT! This is cruel and unusual punishment!

BTW, Bridgeport/Brighton Park folk, is Lindy's still there? Awesome chili, as I recall.

Your crave for Chicago food in Arizona remind me of Ray Liotta's last line in Goodfellas - "Right after I got here I ordered some spaghetti with marinara sauce and I got egg noodles and ketchup."

(Grin) I think this needs to be its own thread. So I'm starting one. Check it out in The Parking Lot.
