64 dollar question is he worth the baggage he brings to a new team

We're not sure who wants any part of him -- other than Congress. But Rafael Palmeiro (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=3897) cleared waivers Friday, according to sources. Which means he's one of the few high-profile players who can be traded anywhere through Aug. 31.

However, three other players who were the subject of massive trade talks before the July 31 trading deadline -- Tampa Bay's Aubrey Huff (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6545), Danys Baez (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6395) and Julio Lugo (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6451) -- were all blocked, meaning they can no longer be dealt this month.

Sources have indicated that almost every prominent relief pitcher whose name came up in July trading discussions has been claimed. Among the July All-Trade Rumor Team members who still hadn't been placed on waivers at last look were Manny Ramirez (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=5132), A.J. Burnett (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6314), Jeff Weaver (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6200), Jason Johnson (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=5885) and Jose Mesa (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=4143).

I'd rather lose the remainder of our games than take on Palmeiro

he shoulb be suspended the rest of the year! thats why barry bonds isnt playing, hes taking the whole year of to clear his system of roids. he does a self test everymonth that comes back positive and until it reads negative we wont be seeing barry anytime soon. palmeiro should have hung out with barry this year!:supernana: keep shooting em up loosers!

That's just plain ridiculous.

He's a quality hitter with Hall of Fame numbers. That being said, the steroids have forever tainted his image. He's not worth it, because I don't trust him.

I guess it's hypocritcal, but I don't want to take on a cheater. Would I welcome Bonds or Sheffield if they got caught? It'd be a lot easier... but Raffy is over the hill and a cheater, thats a bad combo.

Sorry, but I agree with Letmehearya. He'd be another black mark in Sox history that the franchise doesn't need. Dignity is more important than another bat, even though we could use one. I'd rather take my chance with the group of guys we have now.

Another black mark?

You guys make me sick. I wanna win. I don't care how. It's been way too long. I'd rather win and have everyone else hate me than be a loser, but look good to the media.

Where would Cindy Sandberg be today if she thought that way?

We don't need the "ex Cub factor" coming into play before the post season. I don't know of any ex-Cub's on the roster, but they need to be optioned to AAA before the start of the playoffs.

Yeah, time to get rid of Garland. We saw what the ex-Cub factor did to the Red Sox last year with Bill Mueller, Mark Bellhorn, Terry Adams and Frank Castillo. We don't need that happening to the Sox this year.
