Today, while getting my oil changed and my air filter replaced, I saw a guy at the auto shop wearing a shirt that said "Property of Cubs Nation" and a hat that said nothing but "69" on it. Since where do these Cub fans get off that there is a such thing as Cub NATION??? And, how appropriate that he'd wear a hat that had THAT number on it, because they're eternally f'd. Oh, how annoying!

they get off on being associated with 'losers'. That's what seperates cub fans with anyother sports team's fans.

First off "Nation" is just now the popular phrase to use which I believe just denotes "group of likeminded fans". Every team basically has their ____ Nation these days. I'm sure if you looked hard enough you can find a "Royals Nation" somewhere in KC, though they are probably in hiding recently.

Second it's a T-shirt and the manufacturer probably saw that the cubs are popular, nation is popular and stuck them together because he is a big fan of cash and saw an opprotunity to make money. The fan had nothing to do with making the T-shirt, he just bought it. He probably got the idea of "Cubs Nation" from the T-shirt now that I think about it.

So just drop it, let the baby have his bottle and who really cares about one guy's T-shirt.

IHMO I think CUB NATION can probably be found on a map somewhere in the vicinity of Never Never Land and near a land called Honah Lee :D: :D: :D:

I never want to hear "White Sox Nation". Leave the trendy thing to do for the folks on the North Side.

Funny seeing them embrace 1969, since it was one of the biggest chokes in their history.

White Sox Province?

The first sports team fanbase I remember being referred to as a "nation" were the Raiders.

Yeah, but if you're wearing a T-Shirt that says that, there's a good chance that sooner or later some Wrong Sox fan is going to want to be your friend and then what do you do?:?:

:o: . Oh my.....did not think that possible...you have a point.... I guess I'll offer them an Old Style to bring out their True Blue colors. Or else, I could yell "Look! It's Mark Prior!!" while pointing the other way and then run.

Now that I think about it, you have a very valid point, the colors of that era were light blue and RED on the uniforms and the logo........

I say we use a logo which reads: "They think they're a nation, we rule the Universe!"

That's nice. I like that. Or we could just do something like "The White Sox Are the Right Sox," maybe with a picture of that guy with the hatchet chopping up a pair of red sox. :D:

I think "Cubs Nation" is born out of all that "Red Sox Nation" talk. Since Cubs fans think they are somehow spiritually aligned with the Red Sox, I guess they have to copy ever think their fans do and say, too.

My parents have a throw blanket with that slogan. I think they bought that around 1984 because I can't picture that place without it hanging over a chair.

My friend and I commented last winter how the whole "TEAM X Nation" thing was getting out of hand. I mean if people remember there was Illini Nation during the March Madness Tourney...gimme a break.

I am usually clueless when it comes to things in the media, but I have to admit the first "nation" I heard about was the Cubs' - during the 2003 playoffs. It was always stuff like "And Cub Nation remains perched on the edges of its chairs as we head to a Game 7 in the NL Championship...".

Oh, one other thing - Minnesota is using "Twins Territory" this year, so that one's out too.

Oh, almost forgot - when I was a kid I lived in "Bengals Country".... But they probably don't use that slogan anymore.

I remember that slogan (actually it was "YOU'RE IN WHITE SOX COUNTRY")... my father had one of those window stickers on his car back in the mid 70s... was one of those that you had to soak in warm water then apply to the inside of the window. Cool slogan... wouldn't mind seeing it come back again!!!

Regarding 1969, I couldn't have said it any better. Cub fans have analyzed that season over and over. Countless books have been written about it. They choked pure and simple. And they haven't stopped choking.

Where was this so-called "Cubs Nation" back when I was a kid in the 70's when the cubs drew 5000 to a weekday game and 18,000 for a weekend? The advent of yuppies, gentrification of the East Lakeview [not Wrigleyville] neighborhood and the cubune's purchase in the early 80's made them popular. I almost forgot, as was the case in the mid-80's when I admittedly sat in the bleachers to cheer the opposition and meet girls, college co-eds flashing in the bleachers on a routine basis is just another reason for the madness.

Also - There didn't seem to be all the talk of the goat and the curse back in the 70s like they have now. Back then, the team was just BAD but there wasn't a multitude of mythilogical beings to place the blame on.
