we don't get the trib, so I stumbled upon this online and reading it just made me furious! What did others think?

His stats were so obscure (i.e "With a 13-game lead and less than eight weeks remaining in the regular season, and the Sox averaging 4.8 runs per game, the second lowest among the four American League teams currently situated for the playoffs") And then he goes on to make a mockery of the Grinding rules,

"Sure, it's cheating if Palmeiro hits drug-aided home runs for another team. But if he were to do it for the Sox in October, winning a playoff game or two by reaching those right-field seats at U.S. Cellular Field, could it become the latest showcase for grinding?

I almost can see the ad now. Grinder Rule No. 78: A suspension is just more time to take batting practice and study pitchers' tendencies"

this really got to me -- just had to vent.

Second lowest among the 4 teams? He couldn't just say third? And NO, I don't want freakin Palmeiro.

I just read that article a few minutes ago. I don't want him. He doesn't deserve the honor of wearing a White Sox uniform.

Phil must really have been out of ideas for a column today.

What a bunch of crap.

I actually emailed Phil Rogers and told him what a piece of garbage his article was.
I wouldn't want Palmeiro even if he hadn't tested positive.
Remember, this is a guy who invoked his no-trade clause twice in 2003 to block trades from the Rangers, who were in last place, to teams contending for playoff spots.
This guy obviously wants no part of postseason play, which means the Sox shouldn't want any part of him...

Re-route to "What's the Score"

(at least Phil hasn't degraded to auto Outhouse status, yet)

isn't he the same idiot that said we should go out and get Kenny Rogers too?

Is he trying to sabotage the team by hoping KW likes what he reads or something?

What are the odds that if the Sox ever did get Palmiero Rogers would rip the club the next day for picking up a proven cheater??

This article isnt as Crazy as it sounds. I think Phil was helping ole Uncle Jerry
out, knowing we could get Palmeiro for FREE at this point, considering his status. There arent many players out there we can get for FREE right now.
That said, I still dont want him. We do need another Legitimate Bat
in the lineup. 2 runs a game in the playoffs wont cut it

Beyond the fact the Palmero isn't worthy of being part of the same franchise as FRANK THOMAS this article make so little sense. Does Rogers really thing Palmero would clear waivers all the way to the Sox. What a Joke. Next weeks article

"Bonds a Perfect lift for slumping Sox"

What a stupid article. Not only is the idea of acquiring Rafael Palmiero nonsensical, as it is the last thing that would ever happen, but it also makes for a boring column. This isn't an issue like Griffey or AJ Burnett or even Paul Konerko where fans are split-- there are literally ZERO fans in Chicago that want Palmiero on their team under any condition. So why turn it into a poll? Stupid.

Rogers hasn't had the nerve to post here since PHG ripped him a new one for the Trib's ridiculous coverage of the congressional steroid hearings, though I believe he lurks.

You really think a team that doesn't have a need at DH would risk getting stuck with Raffy? No chance. He'll pass through waivers easily.

Agree,
No team will want all the extra baggage (pressure) Raffy will bring. Extremely hostile crowds, the press hounding players for their opinions and the club house turning into a zoo.

Its just more of the cub media trying to do harm to our great season.
They must be extremely jealous to stoop so low.

The story and headline should have been "OK fans, its your call: should the Trib pursue new columnists?"

That would have at least made things interesting.

Perhaps there is a terror that Raffy might someday take the field in a disco blue jersey.

Terror? They'd cheer him loudly. The Flubs would welcome that cheating freak with open arms. They've done it before.

As much as I hate to admit this, I used to kind of like Rogers. But lately his journalism had turned completely yellow. In such a special year why would the Sox get this cheat? Complete garbage.

The organization itself would hail him as a New Hero and Misunderstood Legend. No doubt about that. But I think journalists would be hard pressed to follow suit, to hail Raffy even though he is a damn cheater. Unless I'm mistaken and in fact they have no conscience or souls at all. :dunno:

I think this article was just effort to get Palmerio's tainted name in the same headline as White Sox.

Like Everett/Palmerio is such a big difference anyway.

I'd rather we sign Steve Howe (remember him?) than Palmiero - such a move would be really, really, really, stupid. The odds of him distracting the team are far greater than helping the team. And then what if we won with him? It would take away attention from the Buehrles, Podsedniks, Konerkos, Iguchis, etc.

OK, I'll bite....Yes, if we pick him up for absolutely nothing, why not? Our offense will not cut it, and I see no other way to add a significant bat at this point in the season. Think of it this way....all those years that we had to endure a steroid-addled Sammy Sosa on the north sdie. Besides, I am sure that he is probably off the stuff by now.:dtroll:

Rafael Palmeiro is a liar, cheater and alleged adulterer. I want nothing to do with this man.

I say we shut the team down and hope for better in '06.
