View Full Version : Would you take Palmeiro?

Pure speculation off of ESPN1000, and highly unlikely to happen. But they mentioned a Buster Olney report that the O's were considering releasing Palmeiro if they determine that they're out of the race. The thinking being that he won't be back next year, they can give some PT to a younger player, they can reduce some bad pub, and he can catch on with a playoff team.

This is not meant as a "is this going to happen", more just curious if people here would want him as a DH. He's still hit for decent power this year, and could provide an offensive boost. But do you take the 'Roidboy for the marginal improvement? IMO you do (Bye bye Timo), but I can see a lot of negative backlash.

Thoughts?

I probably would not do it. This team isn't desperate enough for a bat that they need to absorb the circus of distractions and bad vibes Palmiero would bring with him.

No way. If the Sox gonna be the first champions of the non-steriod era, they can't go out and pick up the most notorious steriod user as of today.

Why risk an entire season of positive local and national media coverage for a short term signing like that?

No.

FOXSports.com is also reporting the possibility of Palmeiro being released:

Not a chance I'd want him on the team if he were available.

No way.

About as smart as the Wil Cordero signing.

Are you joking?

Palmero would forever tarnish anything this team has or will do.

Besides, winning is not that important. I wouldn't want that kind of message sent to all of our little sox fans.

Take Palmeiro?

To the woodshed, maybe.

On the Sox?

Heck no!

Who would?

Congratulations, SoxEd on making the 800,000th post in WSI history.
I glanced at it and it said 799,999 so I clicked reload and went down the list of forums to find the newest post...talk about looking at the right time.

Wow - do I qualify for any kind of prize?

An (empty) case of Falstaff maybe?

I'm just glad it's one of my rare relatively coherent offerings, and not the usual glib rubbish.:redneck

Nope. Not for free. We don't sign cheaters and we already have a slow first baseman who can hit.

We may as well re-sign Jose Paniagua for cryin' out loud!

A most emphatic and definite NO. I don't even think the Orioles want him now.

NO

We should make a petition and keep sending it to Kenny until he doesn't make the deal.

Im going to say no for a 2 reasons.

(1) We have a team of scrappers and grinders that work their tail off to win, Palmeiro has proven to take the easy way out, bad example

(2) The man really would mess would the clubhouse. The cubs dealt him for personal reasons, banging a TEAM MATES WIFE. While yes the Wife is a skank, you do not do that. His ex best friend, Will Clark, feels like Raffy stabbed him in the back, the man clearly would be as good for this team as Monica Lewinsky was for Hillary Clinton
