It has been awhile since I saw a game at RFK. Put it this way, the Senators were playing the Seattle PILOTS.

Some impressions.

DC fans still like minor league fans.

Concessions are expensive. ( Ten Bucks for a program????)
found out too late the Washington Post passes out a free program

The scoreboards they put it at mid level are unreadable.

and the dragonflies in the upperdeck are BRUTAL

(and they stole Sweet Caroline from Boston :?: )

After 30+ years of no team, that isn't surprising.

Was at a Nats/Braves game a few days after Memorial Day (when they were still decent) and the place was electric. The fans were going nuts for every good Nats play and it was a random Tuesday night that drew over 30,000. The team has gone on a slide since then but when I was there the fans really seemed excited to see what this team can do (my guess is that they will stop the Braves streak of division titles in the next 3 seasons). With this being said, I think I decided that the Nats are my favorite NL team now even though they are starting to become lovable losers.

That place is a DUMP. I was there last Tuesday vs. the Dodgers and it's a worse stadium than Oakland. I sat in the last row of the lower deck, the overhang was brutal (but not as bad as Wrigley), and the concourses were small, dark, and dirty. The field is enormous, but that didn't stop my man Esteban Loiaza and the rest of the Nats pitching from giving up 4 long balls.

Thanks for the pix, Fenway.

I do have to disagree with your post for the most part, though.

It looks like you ventured around a fair amount of the ballpark. While I agree that many of the VIP types sitting in the 100 section behind home plate couldn't care less about the game as long as they're on TV and getting their drinks, and large groups of summer camps probably don't care either, I think the opposite is quite true for where I usually sit- the 300s (towards the back of the LD) and the 400's (1st section of the UD). The players have stated over and over again how impressed they are with the fans' knowledge and how they seem to live and die with every pitch. The game I went to last week (Patterson's 13K performance) was a perfect example of this. The crowd knew when to get up on their feet, cheer loudly, and was into every pitch.

Even though the Nats have hit a major slide, they're still drawing in the mid-30's, which is phenomenal. IMO, the majority of the fans are really into the game.

Yes, RFK is a dump. They've made it servicable, and it should do OK for the next 2 years after this one while the "jewel on the anocostia" is constructed. IMO it'll be perfect timing- attendance might start to drop because of how sub-par RFK is, but the team will experience a 2nd honeymoon in '08 when the enw park opens up.

Hope you enjoyed your stay down here- give us some advance notice next time and we'll show you around :gulp:

I'll echo what DC Sox Fan said. I've been to a ton of Nationals games this year (I have partial season tix). I completely disagree with the statement that DC fans are minor league fans. Unfortunately for you, you came at the wrong time. The Nats have been playing terrible baseball of late, which leads to some very unenergized fans. It definitely wasn't like that in the first half of the season when they were playing great ball.

RFK is a dump though, but at least there are no obstructions and a pretty good view of the field from any seat. It has to be an improvement over playing in front of 5,000 fans in a dome in Montreal.
