Gotta love this: from http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/index

Under headlines, 6th from the top.

"D-Backs rock Maddux, Cubs to move into NL West lead (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=250731116)"

Always gotta misconceive the public about where the Cubs are actually at in the standings.

Sounds a lot like one of my "Tomorrow's Cubune Headlines" about the Cubs petitioning to join the NL West retroactive to the start of the season.

I'm not really sure I'm seeing this one. To me the headline makes sense as what it is, and the only people who might be confused are people who don't even know which division the teams involved are in. So I suppose Cub fans might think they're now in first place, but they are pretty much always confused anyhow.

You got to give it to the Cubs, always finding a way to win (even when they lose). One day they're struggling in the NL Central and the next they're leading the NL West

1) That is a badly written headline. Just replace 'to' with a semicolon and it works. ("D-Backs rock Maddux, Cubs; move into NL West lead (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=250731116)")

2) How pathetic is the NL West that the division leader is 3 games under .500? :o:

As an english major this poor, poor excuse for expository prose makes me :whiner:

you/we are misreading the headline. It should be read:

1. D-Backs rock Maddux & Cubs
2. And as a result, move into NL West lead

Just shows you that the copy editor should be fired. If that's what he meant, write it like that.

Misreadings should not be possible because the reader is never wrong and the writer is never right. You understand?

Did anyone else catch the "DID YOU KNOW?" feature at the end of Sports Center last night? Although they didn't mention the White Sox by name, they mentioned how only TWO teams with the best record in baseball at the end of July went on to win the World Series (???!!!???), as if there was any other purpose of bring that spin-doctored statistic up!!!

They just HAD to get another dig at the White Sox, didn't they???

I saw it, *** was that? And it was for some artificially small period of time, something like between 1995 & now.
