Cool. I wish I could be there.

I wonder what brings Dick Allen to Madison, Wisconsin. Joining the Communist Party or something?

Wondered same thing, but in the Mad City probably be Liberal Party, Madison is like the San Fran of the Midwest. Cool city, 4 lakes, college city, clean, not too big, not too small...like they say:Madison 75 square miles surrounded by sanity!

Hey, I completely agree. Madison is a great city. I'm still completely confused why a Philadelphia kind of guy like Dick Allen would wind up there to sign autographs. They don't even have a horse track.

I was up there a year ago, and saw a, um, "specialty shop" called "Mad Hydro." It sold gardening supplies.

Just a thought.

It's as good a theory as I've heard yet. Here are a few more.

a.) Stocking up on cheesehead headwear.
b.) Eating at the Brat und Brau at East Towne Mall.
c.) Checking out the great water deals at Woodman's.
d.) En route to Minneapolis. Staying at Super 8 and eating at Culver's.

I'm laying double or nothing Dick Allen eats a Culver's butter burger before he leaves Madison. Somebody put a tail on him!

The Winnebagos (Ho Chunk) have a casino outside town. I'm betting he plays Aqueduct from there.

Was at Ho Chunk quite a while ago...asked one of the Native Americans there why they called it Ho Chunk...he smiled and said "because we take a ho chunk of your money!":D:

Guys - if anybody cares, Richie Allen will be at the Natl. Sports Collectors Convention tomorrow in Rosemont to sign autographs.

That must be the reason. He's getting paid to make a side trip just 2.5 hours from Chicago where he is getting paid, too.

I still say he eats at Culver's before he leaves Madtown.

Folks:

Yes I was trying to take a shot at Dick. I had his number in L.A. but upon the death of his daughter via murder from her boyfriend I thought it best to back off.

Dick is now working for the Phillies so I'm told, so in the future I'll try through their PR dept. But here's a clue for you all (as John Lennon sang...) (no it's not, 'the walrus was Paul...) I will be speaking with someone who was a teammate of Dick's in the near future. This All Star (hint) was one of the best loved Chicago athletes of the 70's. (will he do???) George also has in the can as we used to say in TV, an interview with another Sox All Star from the 60's. He'll release it on the site when he feels it's appropriate.

I do have Dr. Hopkins (that's right he's a doctor!) contact information but me thinks Hal when this interview on the 4th is finally released you won't be disappointed.

In fact I can guarantee it!

I haven't been disappointed yet.

If you ever do contact Dr. Hopkins (and yes, I knew he is a doctor), do let him know that sitting at a computer in Joliet is a guy who fondly remembers his baseball career and who is the self-appointed president of his fan club.

You guys can bad mouth Gail Hopkins' lousy baseball career all you want, but give the man props for one of the coolest baseball cards from the 1970 Topps set.

Who's badmouthing Gail Hopkins? I really liked the guy. There are certain players I just happen to like. Hopkins is one of those. Among the others were Ken McBride, Jim Willoughby, Greg Pryor, Alan Bannister, Tex Wortham, and Bill Almon.

After living in Madison for the past 5 years, I'd certainly say there are roughly zero communists here.

The Mallards games are a lot of fun though. I wasn't in town to see Allen, but I hope some other Sox fans made the trip. Fun times certainly can be had in that town!

Yeah...he was probably just another nutcase right-winger.
