I always wondered what this term means. For instance, Jason Marquis of the St. Louis Cardinals was a Sandwich Pick in the 1996 draft by the Atlanta Braves. Can someone shed some light on the subject? Thanks.

I believe that a sandwich pick is one taken between the first and second rounds; it is usually a compensatory pick for losing a free agent if I am not mistaken.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. Make mine a ham and Swiss on rye.

If we were in a deli my sandwich pick would have to be the old staple of hot corn beef on rye.

If we were at a sub place i might go for something like a turkey club, no tomatoes and VERY light on the mayo.

:hawk I LUV sandwich picks.

Hell, nobody said we were at a deli! I've gotta go with a hot pastrami on rye, too.

A "sandwich pick" is short for "sandwich pickle." In a world where we grasp for shortened forms of names/phrases (R-Dub, T-Dub, J-Lo, etc...), some chef made this one up to sound cool.

The sand wedge. Use an open faced sand wedge!!

Mmm, open faced sandwich...

(I totally butchered that line, someone correct me)

edit: "Use an open faced club! A sand wedge!"
I think that's it...

In light of your post, I'd suppose our backup catcher could have his own item on the menu: the sandwidger. :D:
