Big Hurt supposedly down

Supposedly Frank was hurt during practice or something. Gload is being sent to replace him

This thread is in the Minor Observations section...just thought i'd send it up here in case nobody was seeing it.

I doubt it. I'm sure Timo will be in right and Carl will be the DH tonight. If they are brining up Gload then maybe they are thinking about putting Thomas on the DL or something. Although it is probably too soon to tell.

We became the best team in the majors w/o Thomas already this season. I am fine with resting him and letting Crazy Carl put back on the DH shoes for a while. If it is anything serious or DL worthy, hopefully Frank comes back like he came back a month ago.

This is all very weird. So we don't know what happened to Frank. Dye was bit by a bug and one of them (I guess Frank is more likely) will be going to the DL with Gload being activated for the game. I hope we get some clarity on this soon.

Frank probably needs some time off to get more comfortable with inside pitching, and to find a comfort level where he can be more aggressive at the plate. I thought last game he did a good job early of attacking the ball, but didn't have great results. Maybe he's protecting his foot when he swings, or maybe the Sox just want more lefties for the upcoming games.

29 games - 124 AB - 45 hits - 7 doubles - 1 triple - 8 HRs - 20 RBIs which isn't bad for a lead-off hitter and an avg. of .363. No errors!

Much more concerned about Dye than Frank. Maybe this will give Frank time to rest up, because lately all he was up to was an occasional bomb against a crappy pitcher.

Why, I happen to have a whole box of pens right here...
Quit being a douchbag for a few seconds and realize that this is essentially the lineup we have been winning with all year. So Timo is playing. Big deal. He is a Major League baseball player, and he has been clutch for us a few times this year, several over his career here. Instead of bitching about a lineup which you could have probably made up better have some faith that ozzie knows what he is doing and that Timo will have a solid performance.

Scott Reifert says this:

Jermaine Dye was scratched from the lineup with infected bug bites on the back of his leg. Evidently, they became infected when he slid in one game. He wanted to play tonight, but Ozzie wanted to rest him. My guess is he will be available to pinch hit if needed.

Nothing about Frank.

This news doesn't even phase me because of how deep this team is. I can live with a bug bite "injury," especially since it's not serious. Thomas has been struggling lately, and said he won't be 100% until 2006, so some DL time might do him some good. Like El Duque, the theory may be to keep his workload down so they're both as healthy as they can be for the October games.

The team isn't going to lose much with Everett and Gload replacing Dye and Thomas.

I guess I'm the only one who isn't crapping his pants at the thought of Timo getting a start. He's no Jermaine Dye, but he sure isn't a Julio Ramirez either.

It really wouldn't surprise me at all if they were just trying to keep this quiet, to use Frank as a possible decoy in today's game (we know they're certianly done it before). They'll probably announce it after the game, when Gload gets there.

Exactly. Gload probably won't get here until during the game. So why let the opposition know you are one man short? I'm sure the Red Sox might have heard whispers about Frank being injured, but don't confirm it for them. As long as they think Frank is able to play, he has to be considered in all their late inning bullpen moves. Like you said, they'll announce it after the game.

Frater Perdurabo
07-21-2005, 09:06 PM
The other thing is that just because Gload has come to Chicago, doesn't mean he was "called up" to the 25-man roster, either. It could be entirely precautionary, or a precursor to a trade. Until the Sox make an official announcement, everything else (including what I write :redneck ) is pure speculation.

I haven't seen Frank in the dugout tonight, so I guess he must be hurting. If he's supposed to be a decoy, he should be sitting in that dugout, but I don't think he's even there. That tells me he probably is going on the DL.

Hey guys. I am down here in Fort Mill, SC (home of the knights), and can confirn that Gload is on a 12:30 flight (thats about 30 minutes from now) up to ChiTown. I don't know if he is back on the team officially yet, but it does look like Frank will be DL'ed, and Gload activated. Ross sure did give us something to cheer about down here. He was tearing it up. What does everyone have against Timo?!

I have nothing against Timo, simply because he has met his expectations. Plays good D when Dye needs a break... hits 245... gets a "big" hit late in the game...

My problem is with Frank Thomas hitting 219 with a 30% K / AB ratio. Despite the 12 homers, he is just plain SUCKING right now. Give him some time to think it over and let Ross play. I think it is fair to say that Gload can hit better than 219. The Sox don't need a homer every 9 at-bats. The Sox need a guy to get a hit every second or third at bat like Ross (or Carl) can. The Sox need a guy in the lineup to hit 300+ like Ross can. Hell, Everett has been out performing FT.

I'm probably just stupid for assuming that because Gload hit 320 in 234 ABs last year and has absolutely torn up AAA this year means that he can make an immediate impact for the Sox...

Hell... maybe I'm just a closet Gload fan.... :redneck or an idiot... :?: you decide.

I'm a big Ross Gload fan, but to expect him to hit .300 consistantly is probably asking a bit much. Frank has a lot of RBI, not just HR's in his time back. I don't think he looked "Terrible" at all until the last 3 games. I think his ankle needs rest, otherwise he's THE starting DH the White Sox need.

Ozzie asked him to play 1B. While he technically did that, I wouldn't say it worked out well. I asked him to get on base more than 30% of the time, but he just mumbled something and went to go practice his one-handed catches.

The problem with Timo is that he's a one-tool player . . . the least valuable tool . . . he throws very, very well. He's usually a pretty good lefty PH, but Gload is better, and we don't need 2 of them. It also helps that Gload becomes the only backup 1B, while Timo is one of 7 guys who can play OF (no, I'm not counting Gload).

Dye

Those insect bites on Jermainehttp://whitesoxpride.mlblogs.com/photos/uncategorized/spidey.jpg Dye's leg evidently came from a spider while the team was in Cleveland. According to Ken Williams, Dye's leg looks "grotesque" from the multiple bites, which have become infected. He may still be available tonight depending on how he responds to medicine
