View Full Version : Big blow for the Nationals..

The Nationals dropped a series to MLB's worst road team the Colorado Rockies tonight. The bigger blow, however, is that the Nationals could possibly lose their ace of the pitching staff, Livan Hernandez, for the rest of the season.

Here's what he said after tonight's loss
"I'm not happy for three years. After the season, I'm going to tell you" why, said Hernandez, 12-4 with a 3.44 ERA and the unquestioned staff ace."It's 99.9 percent I'm not going to pitch no more" this season, he said. "I'm done, I think, so let's see what happens. ... I'll go to sleep and I'm going to make a decision tonight."His right knee has been a nagging problem all year, and it was drained May 16. But Hernandez said it's not bothering him enough to affect his pitching -- nor was he told to have the knee worked on."It's not the doctors. It's me. I'm the doctor. I don't need it, but I'm going to" have an operation, he said.Pressed to explain why, Hernandez said: "I'm tired of something. ... I'll tell you when the season's over. I'm mad."

:( :( My fantasy team is going to miss him along with the Nationals. I wonder what's really making him tick...

Very interesting...maybe pitching for the White Sox will help him figure things out...

Boy the Nationals are turning into a soap opera.

If Livan is done for the season, so are the nationals. It sounds like he's having more problems than just medical issues, but if the knee is truly hurting him that bad it is his perogative to get it fixed.

Not even a remote possibility at all ever, but wow that would be something special if he came here for the latin connection. Give the Nationals our entire Farm System for all I care. Anyways, that is a pipedream x 6. Probably not even allowed to dream it.

Bye, bye Gnats!!!! The Braves will be in first place in the N-L East to stay by the end of Friday's games. MARK IT DOWN!!!!

Dang, this could put the Cubs back into Wild Card contention. Atlanta will secure down the East like they do every year and will leave the Gnats to slowly sink back.

I think Hernandez has more serious problems than just his knee. I hope he can get the help he needs in order to get his life back together.

Haha, nice reference. I wonder what his terrible secret is. Such a burden on his shoulders! Whatever. It's baseball, not a soap opera. Act like a man. Frank Robinson has already shown this season that he's not afraid to ship out a troublesome player (Ohka).

Washington Nationals = slowly imploding. This is can only be good news for a certain single-season saves record holder we all know and love.

It really sounds like his beef is with the Nationals' manager Frank Robinson, because Livan's been on the team for 3 years with him. When the Expos first acquired Livan, Frank Robinson was disgusted because the only reason why MLB let the trade go through was because the Giants were eating all of Livan's salary. Yesterday the Nationals released one of Livan's good friends, Wil Cordero, and that could've been the final straw. Or maybe he just really misses Youpi.

Yeah, the correlation is certainly there, and we'll apparently find out after the season if Robinson is the source of his animus.

I'm wondering how ugly this can get. He's under contract to pitch for the team when healthy. The surgery isn't required and it doesn't seem as if he's really hurting that badly. So, if he decides to have the surgery, is he breaching his contract, and can the Nationals stop paying him?

This seems to be something like the Mondesi situation from last year. Livan would have been better served to keep his mouth shut about his ill will and motivation for perhaps deciding to have the surgery now.

I think a little brotherly advice will get him going again. The Hernandez brothers can get a nice bachelor pad off of the Viagra Triangle.

Wow, going out on a big limb there.

Any other predictions for us?

Will this screw up any chance that we get Wagner from the Phils?

I would assume that the Phillies would be right back in it now.

I don't think he was all that available to begin with but I would say yeah, this really puts a damper on trading for Wagner. Unless the phillies drop every game between now and the deadline I would say he's staying there since the wild card would be wide open if Livan goes down.

I guess he had a change of heart after he slept on it. No surgery for Livan, though I would imagine there are still some issues there.

Wonder with this news what the nationals will do trade wise. I wonder if they will try and do a steal with florida or get in on the florida\pitt\balt trade
