Makes sense - we don't have enough 1B/DH types on this team. And he has a nice history of injury - we're always atop the list of teams who are trying to dump injured players.

According to what I just read there (unless there is another article not seen) you're wrong. All it says is that the Sox are one of the few teams he'd waive the clause for. It makes absolutely no mention of interest from the Sox end. In fact, here's the quote:

The feeling also is Thome would drop his no-trade clause only for a few teams, perhaps the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, St. Louis Cardinals and Cleveland Indians. None of those teams are in the market for an expensive first baseman/designated hitter.

The lesson? Read the article before saying the Sox have an interest.
