Not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere else, but whats a good name for the 2005 white sox? Us, As sox fans, have to think of one.

I heard someone say "The Rush Street Sox--lots of singles and plenty of scoring." I cant rememebr who it was, I think either Mac, Jurko, or Harry.

How about "The Southside Hit-By-Pitch Men?"

Win, or get a concussion trying!

I've been saying all season that we're winning by playing the game the way it was meant to be played...

if '83 was winning ugly, this team is winning pretty!

1906 Hitless Wonders

1959 Go-Go Sox

1977 South Side Hitmen

1983 Winning Ugly

I don't recall an official nickname for the '93 and 2000 teams,

but I thought this year was the "Win or Die Trying" Sox.

Wouldn't those be regarded as preseason marketing slogans as opposed to genuine, spontaneous nicknames based on the team's success/personality for a given year?

I dunno...

How about something like the "Blue-Collar Bombers" or the "Picks to Click"?

I sorta like the first one, though. Anything that distances us from the Wrigley Field fans works for me.

Win or die trying is easily the coolest marketing slogan in the history of professional sports. It must be incorporated into this team's nickname as they have embrassed it fully.

But i bet it will be '05 Sox: The Smart-Ballers

Sorry...miracle on 35th street was already used in 1983. It's the title of Bob Logan's book on the season.

Here's my suggestion:

2005 White Sox: This was never supposed to happen.

The phrase, was never supposed to happen, is a bullseye... but not really catchy for mass consumption.

Because no one in the media expected them to do anything, how about the South Side Shockers?

Or, since KW took a gamble on hiring Ozzie and also took some pretty big gambles on Contreras (terrible in NY), Pierzynski (lots of negative media coverage), Iguchi (rookie in MLB), Hernandez (injury risk), Dye (injuries and underperformed in Oakland), Widger (out of baseball), and Pods (terrible 2004 season), I think something along the lines of 'Kenny's Blackjack' or 'The Great Experiment' would be fitting.

"The Big Black Machine" sounds like a blackxploitation movie starring Pam Grier and Richard Roundtree.

I prefer "Winning Pretty" it has a good ring to it.

I was thinking something like the White Shocks or Shock Sox.
I dunno....maybe they don't need a nickname. It's gotta be something that comes naturally.

Building off of that...how about something like the Southside SWAT Team? Maybe come up with a great meaning to the acronym SWAT as well? Or Southside Assassins...

I don't know

Here here...stop forcing the issue and let something happen. Something will catch on almost by accident and define this team all on its own. I know it would be really cool to come up with something spectacular and have it catch on, but that never works.

I believe that the best of the year is yet to come and there is something special in store for the south side in the next few months, and out of that will rise a motto for this team that will stick for years.
