Was Borchard's blast last year the farthest home run at the new park? I remember A-Rod hit one pretty far a few years ago. I also remember Ventura and Frank hitting some good shots. Don't think those were as far as Borchards though.

Frank Thomas held the longest before Borchard at 495 feet. It was in 2002 off of Johan. Chavez's was in 2001 IIRC.

How far was the one Bond's hit last summer. I coulda sworn it was near 510 feet. It hit the third to last row in section 101 and all I know is that is a blast. I was a couple rows ahead of it and the ball bounced right in the row back of us after hitting someones seat. Easily the longest HR I have ever seen hit.

That Borch blast was a day game vs Philly that was a makeup for a rained out game. There were no more than 5000 fans in the park - but we were treated to an absolutely amazing blast. (he struck out twice, and was 1-4, but so what?)

We were already out of it - but that was an amazing blast for the few of us who saw it.

I was at the Chavez in '01 and the Bonds, def the furthest I've seen was Chavez, ever time I see the fool I think of it. Unfortunately the furthest I saw at old Comiskey was The Crime Dog when he was in Toronto circa '89, upper deck.

I was at the game in 2003 when Bonds hit that one just right of CF. I think 470 ft was the estimate.

Long before Thomas, Chavez, & Borchard good ol Dan Pasqua had the longest HR at the new park for almost 10 years - a 484 ft shot to RF that landed on the concourse

If I remember that Pasqua shot, it hit the right-field billboard (I believe it was a Winston sign at the time). Had to be in 91 or 92.

That was the first game I attended after moving back to Chicago.

Often you'll know a ball is going out as soon as it's hit and you'll start cheering. When Borchard hit that ball people's jaws simply dropped.

Correct. It was early in the 1991 season.

Sadly,yes.:(:

Only the light standards in RF kept that ball from ending up
in the player's parking lot.Before Borchard's last year,that
was the longest HR i'd ever seen at Sox Park.

i was there for bonds, also thought it would be more, but the numbers dont lie. looking at the 02 home run derby in milwaukee where every home run was "measured" over 500 feet will do that. the farthest in the 03 derby, pujols, went something like 467.
thomas's at 495 bounced off the rail between the concourse and bleacher seats, and landed in the back of the concourse. sox officials didnt see that and took it from the first bounce, which gave his hr some extra feet. ill say that now because it has been eclipsed. i looked at the tape of borchard last year and couldnt determine how far into the concourse it landed, so i cant confirm that distance, but it looked like they were in the right range. reifert talked about pasqua and chavez, but can anybody tell me with good detail where they landed? borchard too.
i made the program they used for the 03 asg & derby for hr distance. also updated the contour map they use that gives the distances. prior to the 03 season, the map was difficult to read, based on the 1990 dimensions and did not extend to the areas in the back. would like some help on the ones i didnt see in person.

If Borch's HR was that far, Pasqua's had to be way over 500 ft to hit the billboard.

Again

This is why I say they need to mark spot where these long balls land
to avoid this confusion and, also, to show off.
Simply paint a baseball design that reads:

Dan Pasqua, 487 feet, 07/04/91 and
Frank Thomas, 487 feet, 07/04/02 and
Joe Borchard, 487 feet, 07/04/04

To me, this seems like a simple (and cheap) idea
that would become a fan favorite.

The Dan Pasqua shot was one of the biggest myths in Sox history.

Everyone believes it hit the Winston billboard but it did not. It boucned in the councourse. The Camera lost that ball and all you saw was it pointing at the Winston sign, but the ball never hit there.

To hit any of the those billboards you are talking over 500 feet.
