So far everyone of you have taken the words right out of my mouth. This crowd SUX!!! I hvae to admit I had never heard of the Pirate guy. My wife pointed out that the crowd is probably very disappointed cause they bought their tix so far in advance that they probably didn't know these bums were going to be the ones participating. However it is refreshing to know those juicers are gone!!!!!

No, they are all going to put up monster numbers like this because I bet MLB thought this HR derby would be boring because the park is so large. I guarantee these balls are pretty much like golf balls.

However, I am enjoying the "national pride" that is going on.

24 HRs. Unbelievable. This could turn to be a huge joke. Jason Bay needs to take one for the team and hit like 2 HRs to show that this thing isn't too fixed. The old record was 15! He broke it down 9 HRs. That's not even fun.

The funny thing is Bay probably will hit like 2 HRs. As for Abreu, he's gonna hit 4 next round after this. And he couldn't even hit a few HRs for charity. What a bum.

Congrats, Bobby. Now here's a cup. We need a sample.

Oh for the love of crow...ITS THE HOMERUN DERBY! Do you want Sammy on the team? He does well in these, too.

To be fair, Abreu is one of the best players in the game. He's a pure 5-tool player, not just a home run hitting machine. He'd be a dream player to acquire.

Jjav829
07-11-2005, 08:48 PM
Jason Bay didn't hit one. Well, that restores my faith in this a little bit. If Bay hit 10, it would be easy to tell this thing is fixed. Poor Bay. He shouldn't even be in this thing. He's not a pure power guy like some of the other big home run hitters.

It's all because he didn't have any Canadian flags out there waving for him. Baby Fisk, where are you? :D:

It would cost an arm and a leg to get him, and it seems like we are pretty set in the outfield for quite a while. Plus, I am sure Bobby is ruined now after what he just pulled in the first round. I am calling a terrible second half for him.

But did they bring out a new bag of balls for him? After they seen what Bobby did they might have pulled out the "normal" bag just so the fans would have "restored faith."

Lets wait and see how many Ortiz hits.

I know. My point was that you shouldn't compare Abreu to Sham-ME. Abreu can do it all, unlike Sham-ME. Acquiring him would be a pipedream regardless of what he has done in the Derby so far.

El Caballo was eliminated. It's nice to see Sox fans still rooting for Caballo and not getting all bitter because he is doing well on another team. I went to that Brewers board when Pods was in the 32nd man voting poll. You wanna talk about bitter, those people exemplify bitterness. The event always drags way too long. What should be a 2hr event TOPS ends up over the 3HR mark every time. Tons of interviews after every single player in every single round slow it down and I have to disagree with you, I felt there were a ton of commercials as usual. They averaged a 3 to 4 minute break in between every batter. You could play an actual ballgame quicker than one of these HR contests between only 8 players.

I just noticed this. On the ESPN telecast, it said that Abreu's 517 ft shot was the 2nd longest ever, but this is not true as Thomas hit a 519 foot bomb at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh in 1994:

That was the most boring and awfully produced 3 1/2 hours of baseball I've ever seen. Now, I remember why I haven't watched this damn thing in years. I want my time back.

BTW, Ortiz saw 78 pitches in the first round. That's absurd. They need to change the rules of this stupid stupid stupid "contest."

i have a feeling there will be a pitch count instituted soon, ortiz in his second round try must have taken 10 pitches in a row in the same location, a simple "hey pitch it inside to me" woulda saved 5 minutes

I probably wouldn't want to talk to them either if all they did was embarass me at the plate, pound home runs off me, or irritate the hell out of me on the basepaths.

This is not only post of the week, this could be post of the year or post of the decade :D:

Thanks, what can I say, when watching Berman, Morgan and Selig in the same booth, you can't help but think of where one would see that many tools at once.

Congrats to Bobby Abreu he clearly put on a HR clinic.

AP-One day after breaking records in detroit, Phillies OF Bobby Abreu was suspended for violation of the leagues' substance abuse policy, Abreu tested positive for 3 different steroids and a low grade beaver tranquilizer
