if he misses the All Star Game it is just a question of which Sox Pitcher Starts.

With Garland pitching tonight and Buehrle going Saturday night, would either of them be capable of starting the All Star Game?

Just wondering.

4 games rest for Garland and Buerhle with 3 games rest. In a post game a couple weeks ago, Ozzie said he wants both selected, but doesn't want them to be used, which I doubt will happen.

If Halladay misses, Garland starts, Buehrle gets 1.0IP.

If Halladay is healthy he should start IMHO. He's been awesome this year.

...starting in the All Star game. I sure hate to see it happen like this and I hope he is gonna be ok.

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Toronto Blue Jays (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=tor) All-Star pitcher Roy Halladay (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6134) left Friday night's game against the Texas Rangers (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=tex) in the third inning when he was struck in the left shin by a line drive hit by Kevin Mench (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6900).

Halladay went down for the count after getting hit by a Kevin Mench line drive.

Halladay was taken to Medical Center of Arlington for precautionary X-rays on a left leg bruise. Halladay underwent tests after Texas' 7-6 victory and club spokesman Ryan Mittleman said the pitcher's status will not be known until Saturday.

"We don't want to rush him back," manager John Gibbons said. "We want to make sure he's good and ready. We'll see what the reports say, and we'll go from there."

Halladay. 12-4 with a league-leading 2.41 ERA, picked up the ball and threw out Mench at first base from a seated position, then rolled to his side grimacing in pain.

Teammates, Gibbons and trainer George Poulis rushed to Halladay, who was on the ground for about two minutes. Halladay got to his feet and walked slowly to the dugout. The Blue Jays had a 6-3 lead.

"It sounded pretty bad," catcher Gregg Zaun (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=5427) said. "When he walked off the field, I was relieved. But we'll find out what the news is."

Zaun said there was no chance Halladay could continue.

"He knew," Zaun said. "No argument there."

Halladay will definitely miss the game now. His left leg is fractured and he will miss at least a month. I feel bad for him because he's a great pitcher, but I'm happy that our guys will have more time to shine.

Ken Rosenthal of Sporting News is confirming a broken bone in the leg. Definitely out for the All-Star Game.

I just heard the ugliest man ever on Fox (Kennedy) relay this message to the viewers.

It is a shame, he is a stud...for sure. I can only think right not that that Loiaza deserved the CY Young two years ago, now hopefully Burly-mon or Garland will win it this year with Halladay on the shelf for a month.

I gotta admit, I felt the same way. I try not to harbor any resentment toward Halladay for winning the Cy Young. It wasn't his fault that he pitched so well and that he was voted the Cy Young award winner. Yet at the same time, I've been worrying that Buehrle and Garland could get screwed out of both the All-Star game start and, more importantly, the Cy Young because of Halladay. So while I certainly didn't wish this on Halladay, and I would have preferred one of the Sox pitchers beating out a healthy Halladay, I definitely thought of how this could help Buehrle or Garland win the Cy Young.

I'm not trying to celebrate an injury, but that just helped my fantasy league, cause Halladay has been a STUD all season, and I don't have him. Nice to see him get a ton of respect this season, hopefully he's 100% when he comes back.

Wonder if this affects Toronto's future/thinking about Lilly.

I think that those 2 starts against Detroit where he lost 1-0 killed Esteban's chances.

Since Roy Halladay isn't able to pitch, do you think Francona will take Freddy Garcia as a replacement? Although, I'm sure he'll just take Matt Clement instead. :(:

Edit: Just went to MLB.com and it looks like I answered my own question.
Clement added to All-Star roster (http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20050709&content_id=1122831&vkey=allstar2005&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb)

How surprising.

What will happen now if The Gambler misses the AS game?

I suspect these guys will go, in order of probability:

Mike Timlin
Chris Young
Freddy Garcia (only if he has an insane game tomorrow, if not, then no chance)
Huston Street
Barry Zito
Dustin Hermanson
Danny Haren (again, only if he has a good game)
Cliff Politte

Francona now confirms that Halladay would have started the All-Star game if he was healthy. Now Garland, not Buehrle, appears to be the favorite to start. Francona doesn't seem to think highly of Buehrle.

``Halladay was going to be the starter,'' Francona said. ``I can say it now. That's how much we think of Halladay. We've seen too much of him.''
Francona will announce his replacement starting pitcher tomorrow. Chicago's Jon Garland is considered the favorite.

Unless I am mistaken, I thought I just heard Ozzie on 1000 say that Buehrle would be the starter. He sounded a little concerned because of the short rest for Mark.

I didn't hear the whole conversation though, so don't take this as gospel. Maybe someone else heard it and could elaborate further.

Looks like KR is going; he just told the Dallas something or other that he's going to attend the game.
