I'm guessing they needed a SS since Rollins is replacing the Injured SS Izturis. Perhaps Wagner was high in votes, or they just wanted another reliever.

I'm happy to see somebody make it because they're slick with the glove.

I thought Neifi Perez was an All-Star? Oh wait - that was in May.

From what I've heard, if the selection was a Players' vote choice that doesn't go, the next leading vote-getter at that position gets the spot. The manager only gets to pick if it's a manager's choice or the fans' choice.

Also, keep in mind the first choice can turn the spot down. After learning they aren't on the all star team, players make plans to do something else on the break and most don't end up breaking them. That's how Joe Girardi got in that one year because three or four other catchers didn't want the spot.

Why are people clamoring for Trevor Hoffman so much?

3 All-Stars for a last place team, huh? That's interesting. If it's true that Rollins had to go when Izturis went down, fine, but otherwise Ensberg should have been the choice to replace Izturis.

Why are people clamoring for Trevor Hoffman so much?

24 saves, only 2 HR given up all year, and one to the best team in baseball.

3.54 ERA isn't spectacular, but his 1.13 WHIP is quite good, and he's been very good since the rowand incident. His ERA is high because of only two outings; he's a great pitcher.

When stuff like this happens does the outgoing player still go down in the books that he was an all star? For example, 10 years from now will it be official that Pedro Martinez was a 2005 all star or will the credit go to Wagner only?
