The Sox Army has put together a series of wins in little skirmishes all year (the Chicago tournament, ESPN polls, etc.), but this is without a doubt the greatest display of the power of the Sox fans I've ever seen. Below is another nugget from yahoo.com.

In a surprise finish, the unheralded Podsednik edged popular Yankees captain Derek Jeter (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/5406/) for the 32nd roster spot on the American League squad.

2003 NL ROY-runner up makes Pods unheralded... what a freakin' joke.

I voted about 100 times for Podsednik myself.

I'll admit...When I heard he made it, I teared up a little bit...This is BEAUTIFUL!!!

And I can't think of someone more deserving than Podsednik...He creates mental havoc for every opposing pitcher and is the x-factor in this offense in that he fits the description of "Ozzieball" to a T.

I do think we should give Kenny Williams just a little bit of props for getting Podsednik in the offseason.

We Sox fans should be happy a fan-favorite made the All-Star team. I am honored to have Scott Podsednik represent the Chicago White Sox to the nation. He epitomizes this team's philosophy. Good for us.

We also should pat ourselves on the back for the time and effort we took on behalf of Podsednik. We did it. We didn't let our player down. We had his back when he needed our help.

What a nice reward for a 9-year minor leaguer.

"boyfriend looks" and "cute face".....are NO longer the enigma or the icon he once was !!!!!!
Baseball fans (except yankee fools) are no longer fooled by his so called "allaround" and "leader" type of play.
Scott Podesnick, a once noname, has beat out yankee "future" hallofamer Jeter for the final spot in the 2005 Allstar game.
Oriole fans, Cal NEVER was voted nor beaten out by anybody, a future "hallofamer" (we will see that maybe so maybe not), noname or anybody else even in his waning days as a player.
Jeter, pack your bags to maybe a monument at yankee stadium, but NOT, to Cooperstown (not yet).

May I repeat:
DEREK JETER, YOU ARE NOT (or never will be) CAL RIPKEN !!!!!!

I thank you for voting Podsednik.

DEREK JETER, YOU ARE NOT (or never will be) CAL RIPKEN !!!!!!Welcome.

It's only right that Pods got in. With home field advantage in the World Series on the line and the Sox a major contender, Pods has even more incentive to "do his thing" and prove he belongs.

Even with my typical skeptical Sox attitude when I saw this board I thought we honestly had a chance. Every time I thought I had done my part with 500 or 1000 votes I'd see someone on this board that had done 1250 or 1500 and it kept me going. We kept the faith and we pulled it off.

Atta boy, Scotty!

15 minutes before the deadline, I was in stuck on the streets of Manhattan when it suddenly occurred to me that I had yet to vote for Pods. I quickly called my girlfriend at work and asked her a huge favor: Please please PLEASE log onto MLB.com and vote Pods into the All-Star game. I'll feel horrible if I don't contribute to this cause.

She called back and said she cast two votes for Scott -- one for me, one for her. And she's a Mets fan!

God bless her and GOD BLESS PODSZILLA!!!

GO GO SOX

BTW, GREAT effort WSI. Probably wouldn't have won without your tireless dedication. Great to see Buehrle pushing so hard for his boy to make the squad.

My last question: Anyone know how many votes Pods beat out DJ by?

They say we dont come out in attendance.

They say our ballpark sux and fans and rude and belligerent.

No one and I mean no one thought we could defeat the great Jeter / Matsui / Yankee machine in this vote and we took em down.

The palyers showed their support. The organization and PR dept did a great job and the FANS came out in droves to vote.

Take yourself back to Sunday afternoon:

You find out Pods has been named one of the five men to be voted on to win the 32nd spot on the All-Star team. You think he deserves it but you see Jeter and you can't possibly imagine any scenario in which the most beloved player on the team with the largest fanbase in the country would not win this vote.

Fast forward to this morning as you crank out vote after vote after vote upon learning that Jeter only has a slim lead. Incredible. Amazing. This is really shaping up to be a special, special year on the South Side for so many different reasons.

I'm never one to spend money on overpriced merchandise but I'm not sure I'll be able to resist getting a Podsednik All-Star jersey. Dropping $120 or whatever it would cost would be money well spent, I think.

I was very skeptical of Scott when we first acquired him. In fact, I hated the CLee trade. I'm more than happy to eat crow on that. After all Scott has done for us this year, the least we could do for him was to vote him into the All-Star game. I'm thrilled that we were able to do so, and it was nice to be at the Cell tonight and join the rest of the fans in giving him a well-deserved ovation.

First off, PHENOMENAL job, guys.

I have been obsessed with this thing since Monday, and it has left me just speechless, this whole ordeal.

We did the lion's share of the work, and still won't get any credit.
-Hawk did a shout out for soxtalk.com.
-Yankees fans say he made it because everyone from red sox nation voted just to keep Jeter off.
-Whatever garbage ESPN spews.

But thats OK. Thats the way we like it. Doing the dirty work in the shadows. Letting others have their much needed spotlight and headlines. People may criticize us, say we are non-existent, or simply don't matter.

But We. Don't. Care.

This one was for Scotty, the Sox Organization, and the die-hard fans. Poetic Justice at its finest.

I am so happy right now.

First of all, if you told me Sunday that Scotty Po would be going to the All Star game as the final vote in, I would have laughed and called you nuts

But after coming to this site for the last 3 days, and watching all the support for pods from fans and teammates alike, when they announced this at the game (at which the crowd absolutely erupted) I wasnt shocked at all

The Yankee fans were so cocky before this whole ordeal, and now only bitterness flowing from NY...

On another message board, someone posted something like "Give Podsednik a chance, he steals a ton of bases and plays hard everyday"
And, while we know as SOX fans he does so much MORE than that, it was pretty true

Then a yankee fan responded with "I'm sure Tony Womack also plays extremely hard day in and day out, and steals a lot of bases."

Tony ****ing womack. Great comparison jackass

I have no idea why people think Jeter belongs in the All-Star game anyway. He's a good player, but he hasn't done anything extraordinary this year. He's among the leaders in runs scored, and he has 100 hits. That's about it. They can't talk up his leadership credentials this year because the Yanks aren't very good.

We have the best record in the league, and Scott is probably our team MVP. He has 13 more steals than any other player in baseball. Apparently, the ESPN wonks don't think the best basestealer in baseball belongs in the All-Star game, and that's too bad. Is Jeter the best in the league at anything? I'd say no. In my mind, Scott is the best baserunner around. I wouldn't be surprised if he helps the AL win the game by pinch-running and stealing a key bag late. I hope it happens. That way, everyone will see why he belongs in this game.

I think yesterday was this season in a microcosm:

Stellar starting pitching by someone you wouldn't expect (Contreras)
Strong relief even from those pitchers most outside of the Cell wouldn't recognize (Jenks, Cotts)
Timely, selfless hitting and moving hitters along (Pod and Iguchi)
A huge homer at just the right time (Thomas, of course)
The team AND fans rallying around their own dispite the disrespect by the rest of the country (Pod going to the ASG!:bandance: )
Strong defense (everyone)
Someone putting themselves in a tough spot to help the club (Dye at first), Ozuna at third)
And a W to pull even further away from Minnesota and Cleveland.

Its a great time to be a Sox fan.

whether the success of this great team will change the future of White Sox baseball forever?
Will we ever return to the team building philosophy embodied in the "South Side Hit Men"? Will we always, always, seek to repeat the "Smart Ball"/"Small Ball"/"Ozzie Ball" philosophy that has done so much so far?

Just askin'! ?

At least in the immediate future I think the rest of baseball may shift to this smart ball philosophy. It seems like baseball ebbs and flows with styles and since its now, at least hypothetically, the post-Steriod era I bet a bunch of non-big budget teams with try to mimic our style. For once we're one of the trend setters which is partly why we've been so successful. Someday we'll try to home run-orientated philosophy again when all of baseball shifts back to that.

Actually, the Sox aren't really small ball philosophy. They hit the long ball too. They just do everything well, and that is where they find their success. Every aspect of the team is a strength.
