since June 1st, he has a 1.67 ERA in 16.2 innings and a whip around 1.4.

If he can keep this up and Shingo, the pen will be rock solid.

And hopefully when Marte gets back he will revert to early season form. This pen would be dominating.

And hey, when we acquire Jason Schmidt...we can throw El Duque into the pen for long relief until the post-season!

Other than the meaningless homer Shingo served up lastnight, he has been throwing really well... good velocity and locating/mixing pitches.

Maybe Vizcaino reads WSI and took all of the rumblings to heart... When he was getting ripped, his fastball was around 89-91.. its up around 92-94... maybe he was tired or something... but he looks good right now.

Before I dismiss Kevin Walker, I'd like to see him throw more. I like his stuff. I don't think two call-ups and a few mop-up appearances is enough to make a "get him outa here, now" decision, at least for me anyway... he would be a good leftie-specialist down the line when we are in the final month of the season...

The bullpen is "on it" ... I luuuuuv this team

Viz wasn't throwing his fastball when he was going bad. Now he is. Why he didn't want to throw a mid-90's fastball is a mystery. Shingo is getting his slow stuff over. That's his key. Walker=trade bait, you can't use him in a meaningful situation. McCarthy, back where he belongs for now, but a future ace.

Yeah watching Shingo go 2+ innings these last two times out scared the crap out of me, but he got the job done. I think Ozzie needs to realize though that Shingo is only suppose to go one inning. Even though, Ozzie seems to make really stupid moves all the time, for some reason they work out. It's scary but it produces wins.

As for Vizcanio, what a job this guy has done in the mop-up/ long relief rule recently. It makes that trade just that muchb better for us. Hopefully Luis can keep it up the rest of the season, and be a solid bullpen contributor come September and hopefully October.

That WHIP is still too high and indicates that ERA was a little lucky...but he does look better out there.

Yeah, a 1.56 WHIP is not going to turn any heads.
He needs to keep his walks down and he CAN'T HANG ANY SLIDERS! Hanging slider = death for Luis.

If Vizcaino can continue to pitch well and lower his ERA and WHIP, all we need from him is to eat innings in the 6th (if needed) and 7th inning to get to Pollite/Marte/Hermanson, the best late-inning trio around!

He is what he is - 4th or 5th guy out of a bullpen and does a good job in that role. Maybe we thought we were getting more last December, but we were wrong and what you see is what you get. As such, he'll have some more bad outings and everyone will say "trade him" - but face it, if you want impeccable pitchers as the 4th bullpen guy, they wouldn't be the 4th bullpen guy.
