What nationality is Paul Konerko? I have been wondering this for quite some time now, I can't seem to figure it out. Does anyone know?

Palehose13 did some research and found "Konerko" having Russian or Ukrainian origins. The name comes from eastern Europe for sure.

Whew. I'm glad this thread is just about his name. If it was a thread either extolling his virtues or bashing his vices, I'd have to get involved in the fracas....

BTW, Congrats to Paulie for being selected to the All Star team...

Polish.
Konerko is not a Polish surname. What are you basing this assertion on?
:gulp: Uwielbiam zimne piwo!

The -ko suffix makes me suspect Ukrainian, although it's usually -enko.

So he's Ukranian? not Polish.

Likely Ukrainian or Russian, based on the -ko suffix of the name. But that only speaks to the origin of the name itself. His immediate ancestors may have been born in Poland or somewhere else for all we know. Names are not always confirned to the linguistic point of their origin.

That wouldn't make them Polish though...For example, I'm Polish and despite the fact that my dad happened to be born in Germany, I don't consider myself to be German.

If you go by that, Paul would probably tell you he's American.

Nothing wrong with that.
