To my delight, I finally heard Hawk throw out this gem last night after a McCarthy punch-out. It seems like he hasn't used this phrase in years. Am I crazy, or has it been awhile since he last used that expression???

You're not imagining things. That phrase was almost completely replaced by "he gone". I hope Hawk brings it back occasionally!

i do enjoy the new vigor with which he calls a home run "C'MON GET BACK THERE!"

There was an email about a month ago asking if he ever used that phrase anymore and will he do it again, so he promised the emailer that he would on the next strikeout. It took about 3 more innings, but sure enough, Hawk made the call right after his He Gone! It was awesome.

Glad he's not overusing it, but throwing it in once a game, especially if our guy is pitching well and we have a lead.

I remember he used to use it alot more in the early 90's, but then, I think it was Kent Hrbek, of the Twins, and one hell of a guy, got pissed about it and said so. After that, it seemed to disapear. Glad it's back.

Correct it was Hrbek. After blasting a home run late in a game in Chicago in late September 1991 as he was crossing home plate he pointed up to the broadcasting booth and starting mouthing a few words that would get me banned if I repeated them here.

He used it during the cubs series at the cell when Aramis Ramirez was thrown out at the plate.

I didn't catch that, but after the Crede home run yesterday (after Widger's failed sacrifice bunt) I heard him put on a horrible accent and say, "Bunts? We don't need no stinking bunts! Let me hit!"
Cracked me up...

I definitely noticed the return of "grab some bench" too. It's like having an old friend back.

Anyone else catch during the Tigers game Wednesday night, when there was that big fireworks display going on... the fireworks finished, and Hawk says, "I'll tell you what ... that was a big-league fireworks display."

I was LMAO for about 10 minutes.

That's an actual phrase though, not a mistake. Some people use it.

I agree. I don't mind Hawk adding a little new spice to the broadcast with new phrases. I mean "You can put it on the board" and "He gone" will always be around, but it's nice to see "grab some bench" back and the new "c'mon get back there" is also very nice.

I do believe that he also made fun of the phrase by saying "Brain Science"

I think my favorite Hawkism that has been missing forever is "He's a handsome man!". That used to kill me when he'd throw that one out.
