Per the Tribune (http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/whitesox/cs-050630soxmarte,1,5050047.story?coll=cs-home-headlines):

The White Sox have placed left-handed reliever Damaso Marte on the 15-day disabled list and have recalled left-hander Kevin Walker from Class AAA Charlotte.

Marte has an inflamed left trapezius; he was placed on the DL retroactive to June 27. He is 3-3 this season with a 2.81 ERA and 29 strikeouts. He leads the Sox with 34 appearances this season.

Guess that's why he didn't pitch yesterday. Any word anywhere on how long he'll be out?

Not good. Not sure I like Walker up here, either. Yea it's good to have 2 lefties in the 'Pen. But what good does it do when one of them can't get nayone out?

That's not good at all. Why not Bajenaru? Do we really need another lefty when he can't even pitch at the big league level?

Well, since Vizcaino is pitching better, we need a token BP pitcher who sucks....

Lets predict how many HR's he allows while he is up.

Shingo should pitch to leftys. They are hitting .225 off of him.

Maybe he's not THAT bad? I mean, we haven't seen too much of him, and he only really was bad that one game. From the Tribune article:

The 6-foot-3-inch, 215-pounder was 0-1 with a 12.00 ERA in four games during his first stint with the Sox this season. He allowed two hits and no runs in his first three times out, May 14 and 15 against Baltimore and May 27 at Texas, but he gave up 4 runs on three hits and a walk against Anaheim on June 1, his last appearance.

I'm not saying that he's good or anything, but he's probably worth at least another look.

The Sox need a HUGE outing from Freddy today. He will probably go the distance.

Why not call up Baj and see what he can do??? Is he out of options after another call up or something???

I agree. Canyonaro for life. Walker is not MLB worthy, I can just imagine his fastball v. the Tigers tonight.

I think I saw last night during the game that lefties are also hitting under .100 off of Politte.

This could become an issue if Hermanson has to leave the team because of his family.

I haven't heard the whole story about his family but I did over hear bits and pieces of it. My opinion is that he won't leave the team. I mean he's closing for the best team in baseball. They have such great chemistry. And with Politte pitching the way he is, he would risk losing his job to Cliff if he left for any period of time. Now if he feels his family really, really needs him, then God Bless and do what you have to do just come back and come back the same pitcher you were before.

I don't care if it's the best team or worst team in baseball. If your Dad is gravely ill, you go. Family is first...and he won't lose his job to anyone.

He has said consistently this year that everyone should be ready in the bullpen because it could be Hermy, Shingo, or even marte and politte. 2nd family takes the priority over baseball. Even Ozzie said that he should be with his dad.

Who's gotten the call the last 20+ times the Sox have had a save opportunity in the 9th? Don't believe everything Ozzie says. It's Ozzie being Ozzie.

Oh wow, I didn't know that. What I heard was something TOTALLY different. Nevermind. Go if you need to go Hermies. Take care of business at home and when you're ready, come back and kick some ass.

And in the end, no matter what happens; IN DUSTIN, WE TRUSTIN'.

This is bad, especially for tonight. Shingo wont be able to go, neither will Viz. So we are left with Cotts, Politte (maybe) , Walker. We really need a great game by Freddy!

Yea, I don't think anybody knows the exact situation. However, if they are considering bereavement leave, it cannot be a good situation.

Everything will be fine. Just sit back, strap it down, and enjoy the game.

For all we know, our starters will go into the 9th inning every game for the rest of the season giving up 2 runs at the most. So what if they each throw 300 innings this year??? :redneck

Considering the Sox just put him on the DL which means he's probably out until after the All Farce Break, (like Hernandez) I found this comment in the Daily Southtown interesting:

According to Guillen, Marte had returned to Chicago for some personal business, but had arrived in Detroit in time for the game.

Damaso Marte has been placed on the 15 day DL due to shoulder soreness.
Lefty Kevin Walker is back up to replace him.

Good thing that Vizcaino and Takatsu showed some good stuff a couple of days ago. I don't want to have any weak spots in the pen.

When is Jeff Baj. gonna get a chance? Walker's ERA in AAA is over 5 while Jeff's ERA was under 1 the last time I checked...

I know Walker is left-handed, but does it really matter what hand the ball comes out of if it's gonna find it's way to the bullpen sports bar anyways?

I don't think anyone has mentioned this name; 25 year-old David Sanders. He's doing a good job in AAA. He's lefty. Another possibility if Kevin "Sky" Walker blows up. But let's see what Walker has first.

Sanders had a cup of coffe with the big club in 2003, if I recall. Not a bad option.

yes he did. he got roughed up, but he was 23 and probably not ready.

20 G, 22 IP, 25 H, 15 ER, 5 HR, 11 BB, 14 K

He would be used as a left-handed specialist/mop-up guy. I think in 2003 he was asked to be a little more than that.
