View Full Version : The "New McCarthy Nickname" thread

Hey, in another thread discussing Brandon, people were getting upset at the use of the BMac nickname. However, nobody has really suggested a good alternative. Well, perhaps this thread can be your chance. If you have a possible nickname for Brandon, post it here. Maybe we can setting on a good alternative to "BMac".

Personally, all I can think of would simply be "Mac". Anyone got anything better?

Coffee's not working yet this AM, can't think of anything yet. Maybe we should see him play some more and come up with something. He certainly deserves the additional playing time. Great game yesterday Brandon.

Since he's a rookie, and ridiculously tall, I was thinking that "The Green Giant" could be fun.

I'm a fan of BMac.

But I went to the game yesterday and I never really realized that he was that incredibly skinny. That'd be cool if you could somehow use that in his nickname.

how about "Kickass Changeup" McCarthy?

That thing was SICK lastnight.... if he throws like that for the rest of the season, KW may not need to trade for a starter.

i don't understand the bmac backlash. I mean i understand it in principle, but the thing is, he's obviously known by the nickname: when he came here and posted he registered as BMAC. IT's not like we do this with every player's name

How about Slim? Or Bones?

But really, I doubt this thread will come up with a nickname that will stick. Nicknames just happen. You can't force them. Just ask Hawk. I'm sure that if Brandon continues to play with the Sox, a nickname will emerge seemingly out of nowhere. That's just the nature of the beast. I mean, who would have thought up "El Caballo" as a nickname for C-Lee before it developed organically via TV broadcasts?

Stringbean McCarthy?

Senator McCarthy works well too... especially if he starts drinking heavily and being loud and obnoxious at pre/postgame media sessions... "I have here in my hand the names of fifty ADMITTED spitballers in the National League..." okay, nevermind.

Senator is great, but not standing alone. It needs "the" in front of it.

Example: The Senator struck out 13 tonight.
Next game will be a great pitching matchup. Johan is going against the Senator.

Much better!:D:

I have to second all the support of the Senator, that is a pretty good one. Or to somehow work slim into his name. But I really dont have a problem with BMac personally.

Until/unless he starts building up impressive stats in the majors, a nickname suggesting some sort of prowess just won’t naturally attach to him.

Something based on his appearance is a natural, given his incredibly skinny physique. Of the suggestions so far, I like "Stretch."

im the one who complained about bmac.

it seems most like it, which is fine with me.
some one said even brandon uses it.

i suggested BrandM, it sounds tougher than BMAC.
Every time i see BMAC i think of Bernie Mac.
Its not original.
jack mcdowell wasnt Jmac he was Blackjack

I like BRANDM- and when he strikes guys out
fans can have cards with M's on them instead of K's
this would set him/us aside from the norm.

either way- its not a big deal

Amen, they seem to have given him a lot of latitude based on what he did in spring training. Perhaps "Whiplash" McCarthy, for the awful pain in his neck as he whirls his head around to watch another dinger fly out.

Give Brandon a break. His problem, which can be easily fixed, is he throws too many strikes. 51 of 68 strikes. Guys know they're likely to get a pitch to hit. He needs to throw some breaking balls out of the zone-like that nasty change he has.

A lot of people really go from one extreme from loving a guy one second to saying he sucks and should be demoted. I can understand in the heat of the game being mad about something, but we have to remember that we can't win every game. If you're a true Sox fan, you will realize that no team has or likely ever will go undefeated. Brandon just needs a little more seasoning in the minors. I'm sure we'll see him up in a year or two with the club pitching really well alongside our Cy Young award candidates Mark and Jon as well as Freddy.

I like the sound of:

Brandon "former White Sox prospect, dealt to the Giants in 2005 for Jason Schmidt, who would prove to be a key contributor to Chicago's first World Series Championship since 1917" McCarthy.
