Hitting the ball at a studly .244 in AAA Tacoma, they're bringing him and his bat back and sending Rene Rivera (hitting only .364 in 33 AB) back to AA.

I figure they are going to bring him up to see if he can go on a nice little run to display to other teams and try to pawn him off somewhere. There are a few teams out there who can use a catcher right now, even as just a backup. They need try to get some return from him since he was part of the Garcia trade.

Did he find his ability to hit a breaking ball while he was down there? Oh wait, he never had that. Nevermind.

I wish Olivo luck. I hope he succeeds this time.

We get Mariners games on the radio down here (aren't we lucky) and the announcers were pretty down on this move. They think Rivera is the catcher of the future for the Mariners and, given the Ms aren't playing for anything, Rivera should get a chance to catch everyday. Doesn't say much for their view of Olivo.

Yea,you guys are right.
Rivera is going to be their catcher next year and they are desperately trying to get rid of Olivo because hes' just going to be a AAA catcher for them next year..
