This is not meant to be critical of anyone on this board. I misspelled his name for a long time myself. But since this guy is our ace, the best pitcher in baseball, the man who will bring us to the promised land, we should at least do him the honor of spelling his name correctly. So let's all write it ten times in a row and commit it to memory.

All Hail Buehrle!

Go Mark! It would be great if the sites spell check function handled common Sox names. Every time I type Sox in a post, the spell checker thinks I mean Six.

I've never had a problem spelling Buerhle, but I can certainly understand if you do have problems. Here is what I propose:

MB
Mark
Burly

Those work for me!!!

We should be able to spell it correctly.

Buehrle Buehrle Buehrle

Buehrle should have been a word asked in the Scripps national spelling bee.

Those outdoor and athletic-starved nerds would have no idea.

Panel: "The word is Buehrle."

Nerd: "Uh, could you use it in a sentence?"

Panel: "The American League's 2005 All-Star starter and Cy Young winner, Mark Buehrle, is the best pitcher in Chicago."

Nerd: "Ahem, place of origin?"

Panel: "St. Charles, Missouri, and later adopted by the South Side of Chicago."

Nerd: "B-U-R-L-I-E?"

Panel: *ding* or, in this case, *slap*

Hawk: "He Gawn! Grab some bench young man."

What's funny is I could picture Hawk saying that, don't know why but I could...and I find it hilarious.

Actually, there was a picture here on WSI a while back of a Cubs fan sporting a Kerry "Woods" jersey outside of the urinal. Needless to say, the fool was ripped to pieces on this site. :D:

You've obviously never had the privilege of watching the late Robert Armstrong, who made James Woods look like Lawrence Olivier.

Ya know, I agree with this somewhat. They probably don't know how to spell his name anyway, so wouldn't know if sox fans are spelling it wrong.

However, this guy is our ace, and one of the top pitchers in the game, and I honestly wouldn't trade him for anyone in the league, so I think sox fans should know how to spell his name right. I agree with the thread starter, this is something that does bug me. Probably because people misspell or mispronounce my last name regularly, despite the fact that it's insanely uncomplicated.

At least everyone here knows how to pronounce it (I hope). When I was living in Seattle a coworker had Buehrle on his fantasy team. He kept pronouncing it, Burl. I'd correct him all the time, but he just couldn't get it. For a while he also said Miguel O-leave-ee-oh.
