According to this St. Louis Post-Dispatch article (http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/cardinals/story/B8EF764BC7AB149D8625702A007FAD9F?OpenDocument), the Cardinals and their longtime flagship station ─ KMOX-AM (1120) ─ may end their 52-year marriage. It appears that Infinity pulled its renewal offer to the Cardinals off the table. This has been amid great speculation that the team would buy into KMOX's archrival, KTRS-AM (550), and move Cardinal broadcasts there. The Cardinals leaving "The Voice of St. Louis" for "The Big 550" would be a tragedy (regardless of who's to blame), in my opinion.

This would be an absolute disaster for the Cardinals to leave KMOX. Maybe not in the short term, but the Cards are still a regional team and KMOX is THE station in that part of the Midwest.

That would be a shame. I used to listen to Cards games on the radio late at night. And Art Fleming had a great trivia show on that station.
I also used to listen to the IOwa Oaks - some killer station in Des Moines.

I caught New Orleans' WWL radio in the rocky mountains once.

And, of course, I listened to WMAQ and caught the last few innings of hundreds of Sox games, when I was an AM radio listener many years ago.

I am a huge radio fan. The bottom line in this day and age is that $$$$$ is what drives the industry. Obviously KTRS has to have offered a ton of dead Presidents for the Cardinals to leave KMOX. It's all about the cash my friends. Advertising costs, production costs, ratings...you name it but in the end it's whoever comes up with the dough that gets the prize....I like many have listened to the Cards at night on KMOX. Always a quality broadcast.....

The Cards aren't choosing KTRS over KMOX, KMOX has pulled their renewal offer off the table. This is a direct result of Infinity Broadcasting's feud with MLB/Selig over having to provide their local baseball feeds to XM satellite radio (a direct competitor) without compensation. Were it not for this MLB-XM deal, Infinity wouldn't be raising a stink and the Cards would likely be on KMOX for decades to come...
