View Full Version : How much more can Steinbrenner take?

The top of the second Friday night at Yankee Stadium was just "ugly". Mike Mussina watched in horror as Bernie Williams DROPPED a routine fly ball.

Mets are leading 4-2 in the 4th with Pedro dealing with the "Who's your daddy?"
nonsense.

It is obvious now more than ever, the chemistry the Yankees had in the late 90's is long gone.

Put it this way: if they play as shabbily against the Mets this weekend as they did against the Devil Rays the last four nights, George Steinbrenner won't be able to hold off from firing someone, anyone, any longer.

And, for once, he'd have every right. Perhaps only shock treatment is capable of jolting the Yankees back to some semblance of normality and restoring order in this bizarro season in which they can't beat the worst teams in baseball. Nobody loses seven of 10 games to the Devil Rays. Nobody.

listen to the way WFAN grilled Torre and Cashman on Friday and you can see the bloom is off the rose

Maybe George could arrange for the Little Blue Baby Bears to be transferred to the AL East? :bandance:

That's the kind of record that should never be broken.

The ESPN guys said it was the first time in baseball history that happened.

I have a feeling it won't be long now before something happens in The Bronx. It is no longer Baltimore leading the East and the way Boston is playing right now NYY could really be in a hole come the All Star break

The sloppy losses continue to mount, accompanied by new and unlikely adopted "daddies" for this $205 million Yankee ballclub, and more and more, Joe Torre is at a loss to explain it. At this rate, explanations soon will no longer be necessary and instead recriminations will be the order of the day around Steinbrenner U.
Tampa brass was on hand last night to witness Pedro Martinez reverse roles and become the Yankees' daddy - despite a fastball that barely topped 85 mph in his last two innings of work. This, after Lou Piniella's woeful Tampa Bay Devil Rays had earned their daddy distinction by winning three out of four at the Stadium.

If the Yankees lose on Sunday Night Baseball and get swept by the Mets as a result, I'd hate to be Mel Stottlemyre the following Monday morning.

Well, now I know why ESPN leads every baseball show with what the Yankees are up to. Obviously, you guys think it's important too.

It's just intriguing to see a team with so much money invested in it play such average baseball. Plus any freakout with George could prompt a firesale on some of their vets (Matsui, Sheffield, Gordon). If KW could somehow pry away Tom Gordon, I'd do cartwheels.

I totally agree... I just laugh when I hear the NY media and George Steinbrenner wanna kill and torch everyone on that team. I do feel sorry for some of the guys on that team that get unfairly blasted by the media. I mean, who in their right mind would want to go and play in NY. I think Chicago is a tough place to play in, New York is deadly, along with Philly for football.

P.S. is there a setting for a mix of teal and deep pink?

Mets Bossing
Yankees around
George Steinbrenner wasn't at the Stadium yesterday to see the 10-3 Mets rout, but his presence surely was felt. As the Yankees continue to stagger and stumble, the question that has lingered over the Bombers all season keeps getting louder and louder: When will The Boss take matters into his own hands?
