And I'm reposting tihs from the game thread because I think it's hilarious :D:

Now THAT was an ass-kicking. MERCY.

Solid all-around baseball, which I am loving. Singles, doubles, homers, stolen bases, sac flies, and solid starting pitching from Freddy.

The Cubs "looked" (I was listening to Rooney & Farmer) like amateurs today.

I hope the Sox left some O for the next 2 games.

Nice job by Garcia, Podsednik, Thomas, Ozuna, Rowand, Dye and Pierzynski.

I hope the home plate umpire will be fine, he took a hard shot. Anyone else find it comical watching the ump dance around pitches after the shot he took?

It was said during the game that all 10 of Corey Patterson's home runs are solo shots. He sucks.

Hawk was upset that Patterson stole second base in an 8-1 game.

In case you missed it, Joe Crede had a 3-run homer. But he also had a shoota unofficial error (where he didn't field a ground ball cleanly, though still got the out) so I guess that negates the homer.

Don't forget Crede's 3 run dinger

I didn't forget it; I intentionally left him out of my praise. Meaningless 3-run home runs don't have much value in my opinion. Had he done it when the game was anywhere near close, I would have praised him. Besides, Crede didn't try to hit that pitch the other way, he was just late on the pitch. Kind of a mistake swing, I guess you could say.

I'm not couting this home run or his three RBI from today's game because of the game situation. I'm also not counting his pinch hit solo home run in a blowout win in Colorado. In my book, Crede has 2 less home runs than his statistics show, 4 less RBI, and one less walk (the one where he pinch hit for Uribe after coming in with a 3-0 count and taking one pitch).

Yeah, that is just dumb. You have to be a total idiot to throw that ball back. How many people can say that they caught a HR ball from a Hall of Famer? I'll bet anyone $1000 that 10 years down the road that guy is really going to regret throwing it back. That's the type of ball you get autographed and pass on to your grandkids regardless of what team you root for.

I'm pretty sure you're being sarcastic, but for the record, I'll explain myself further. I only score an unofficial error if a player doesn't record the out(s) a major leaguer should make, and the official scorer didn't give him an official error.

So while Crede did bobble the ball, he did record the out, so no need for an unofficial error.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You're a riot. Can you go through the record books for us and produce official "shoota 2005 stats?" Frank would have a few less HRs. Konerko would have a few less. Podsednik should lose a few stolen bases. Hell, you might just be able to find a way to make a few of our wins into losses and make this race tighter. I'm sure the Twins would thank you for that. Please let us all know when you're done with this. We eagerly await your results....

The entire lineup produced, except for Konerko. I expect a 243-reply thread on his o-fer. IIRC, Garcia's now 3-0 with an ERA under 1 against the cubs and 12-1 in day games for his career.

If it were up to me, the Sox would go 162-0, winning each game 20-0.

I see what you're saying and agree with it. Every player gets away with some cheap stats. The only reason I'm keeping a mental log of Crede's cheapies is because Crede has a lot of supporters who think his end-of-the-season numbers are all that matter in evaluating his play. We've all read this: "If Crede hits 20 home runs with 70 RBI from the No. 8 spot while playing his normal, stellar defense, he is a huge asset to this team."

What these supporters don't want to acknowledge is that in evaluating a player, one must account for both what he hit and when he hit it, as Hawk says. Two players can have the same home run and RBI totals, but that doesn't mean their home runs are RBI are equal in importance to their team.

Knowing that Crede isn't clutch, and doesn't give quality at bats, combined with the Credeganda of his supporters only valuing his bottom line stats, I was forced to keep track of Crede's performance in a more accurate, in depth manner to police the FO24.

So you're a PK fan then, correct? He had a bunch of RBI with not-so-stellar average stats.

Just got back from the park...

Awesome game. The one thing that I felt was the atmosphere was much different at the Cell than in years past. There was more of a 'We're the best team in baseball and we don't care who you are' kinda attitude, and I love it. Freddy would be an ace on A LOT of other teams right now, but this guy just continues to impress me.

Great day for everyone.

I thought we were in for it once Dubois hit that HR and all the Flub fans were cheering as it was a tie game.

Now the other team has no chance of taking the season series. Something they've only done once and it was a year in which we only met for three games.

In case you missed it, Joe Crede had a 3-run homer. But he also had a shoota unofficial error (where he didn't field a ground ball cleanly, though still got the out) so I guess that negates the homer.

I luuuuv wallopings of the Scrubs!!! :bandance: I could tell from pitch #1 of the game (first pitch strike, something he didn't do last Saturday) that Garcia would be bringing it this afternoon, and brought it he did!

IMHO, one of the biggest plays of the game occurred in the 5th inning when Iguchi was running on Konerko's grounder, taking the DB out of the realm of possibility. That play alone set up the beginning of the crooked number, and a lot of those 5 runs were scored with 2 out! I luuuv clutch, two-out hitting!

From the sound of it on WGN, it didn't seem like there were near the amount of Scrub fans at Comiskey Park as usual, which was wonderful to hear. I'll be out there roasting with the best of you on Sunday!

Here's to Contreras and the Sox getting the job done tomorrow against Maddux!

When it comes to the cubs, beat downs are my preference......no room for cub fans infamous "what ifs"......("what if" bartman hadn't touched that ball)

exactly, i wanted nothing more than to see the sox just absolutely obliterate the cubs this weekend. my roomate was sayin that he hoped Rowand or Pod (whoever it was that stole second early in the game but was actually out) didnt score cause then the cubs fans wouldnt have that to complain about lol

That was a friggen awesome game to go to...Nothing for Cubs fans to be happy about, and that's the way I like it.

I tip my hat to Pierzynski, Crede, and Frank especially for lighting up the scoreboard. I tip my hat to Garcia for his flat-out dominant outing today. I tip my hat to Ozzie, who is the manager of the year. I tip my hat to Kenny Williams for allowing it all to happen.

I tip my hat to you, Chicago White Sox! You guys are awesome!

50-22 feels REALLY good right now!!! :supernana:

I'm sure someone already said this, but if you aren't counting Crede's HR, I'm not counting Aj's, or any run scored past the 3rd run since we only needed 3. I know its hard to accept Joe being that good. But, even the "experts" are starting to turn around on Joe. He's hitting close to .250 now, and has 10 HR's. Not bad for a glove that is at least silver. Low avg. or not, I'm very pleased with his play so far. He's got a whole new attitude this season.

On a positive note: This MUST convince the powers that be, that a few more Good Guys need be on the All-Star team, whether the right-coast idiots realize it or not. If there is should be some justice in this world.

I think PK's recent play may have earned him a spot behind Tino and Mark Teixeira, unless they need that spot desperately for Sweeney and/or Sexson (which they probably do, but Seattle could send Guardado instead).

AJ? It would be a tough sell in a league that has Posada, Ivan, Varitek, Mauer and Bengie Molina.

Iguchi? There's a very real possiblity behind Soriano and Roberts

Thomas? Maybe his late charge will open Francona's eyes (as well as the rest of the MLB powers that be).

Podsednik? It wouldn't be the easiest sell in the world because a lot of mediocre teams' best player is an OFer, but it's not out of the question.

I'd be happy with even just one position player, especially if Frank could make it, but I'm not expecting it.

Back to the main thing at hand:

50-22? !!!!!!! WOW! To think, the Sox need to only go 51-39 (.567 Win%) to set the franchise record in wins. The Sox have won 100 games once, in well, 1917.

But let's be greedy and say that to break the MLB record, they need to go 67-23 from here on out :D:

Garcia: Dominant. That one pitch that went for a HR was pretty much just a good guess by Hollandsworth and an excellent job to get it out.

Thomas: Another day, another HR. What else is new? :D::D:

AJ: Ties career high in HRs. I don't think it's unfair to expect 20+ from him from here on out. He's a power hitter at this ballpark

Crede: About damn time he did something offensively. But he's been looking better at the plate lately and seems to be coming around. Any offense from him is a plus at this point.

Podsednik: Walk him 3 times and you're asking for a loss. 4 times up. 4 times on base. Scored twice. Not a bad day at the office.

Iguchi: Good day offensively

Dye, Rowand, Ozuna: Ditto

Konerko: Ditto

That makes it 8 wins in a row. Number nine comes tomorrow :D:

I want to bear this team's children

But speaking of the OTHER team's children......

How appropriate or safe is it to have a very small child sitting in the dugout during a game? I presume that was Dusty's little boy they showed on camera?

From the safety angle, I guess I could be wrong. Maybe that was taped earlier and only broadcast after the game had begun?

I was at the game today. It was packed, mostly with loud White Sox fans.

I saw many Cub fans leaving around the 7th inning. For a day game with almost 40,000 in attendance (considering 95-degree heat), things seemed fairly civil, even enjoyable (especially for Sox fans).

Frank's homer in that first inning was the loudest bat "crack" I have heard in some time. You knew it when he crushed it.

Freddy was sharp today. He got ahead of the hitters. It was a great all-around game for the White Sox.

Since I have the reputation of being anti-Crede, I try to go out of my way to praise Crede when deserving in post-game threads. I have in the past and will continue to do so in the future, assuming Crede does something good over the next 80 games, and also assuming he's not traded before then. :D:

Why would you want to trade a guy who plays defense that well and is on pace to hit .250 (based on his recent upward trend) or higher, hit 23 HR and currently is batting 8th?
