Chicago White Sox fans file into U.S. Cellular Field before the start of the White Sox's game with the Kansas City Royals Tuesday, June 21, 2005 in Chicago. The White Sox are the best team in the majors, likable and entertaining, but in Second City, they are the second team consistently underappreciated while their north side neighbors are showered with love no matter how dismal their record.

Those pictures were probably taken 1 1/2 hours before gametime...They need to classify their captians much more than they do.

Now this is just getting hilarious.

Can someone send an AP photographer to the Urinal 2 hours before gametime and take a photo of the stands the next time they're in town, and then write a caption that's equally as full of stereotypes?

Or during the 8th inning as they head to High Tops, Sports Corner, etc....

CHICAGO (AP) -- The Chicago White Sox (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/chw/) are the best team in the majors, with no idea what second place is like this year. They're a likable, entertaining bunch, and their manager is one of the most colorful in the game.

Anywhere else, they'd be the toast of the town, adored by casual fans and diehards alike. But the White Sox are the second team in the Second City, consistently underappreciated while their neighbors on the North Side are showered with love no matter how dismal their record. ``It's always been that way,'' said Bill Hyde, 68, a lifelong White Sox fan.

Chicago White Sox fans file into U.S. Cellular Field during the third inning of the White Sox's game with the Kansas City Royals Tuesday, June 21, 2005 in Chicago. The White Sox are the best team in the majors, "likable" and "entertaining" (if you enjoy teams that consistently outscore their opponents), but in Second City, they are considered dirty and unclean -- pond scum, if you will -- and are to be avoided at all costs, unlike their north side neighbors, who are deservedly showered with love no matter how dismal their record, because they are truly God's Chosen.

Fixed it for you. You know that's what they wanted to write.

I was going to post a substantive comment in this thread . . . but then I remembered the mod edits to the attendance thread in the roadhouse. OTOH, I feel compelled to add that the AP story is a vomit-inducing retread of all the old crap contained in the WSJ article. As such, there's no discernable reason why an unbiased editor would allow it to appear in a newspaper.

so in hundreds of newspapers tomorrow in the sports section it will appear that the White Sox have no fans even though there was a decent crowd of 24,000 today....

more East Coast bias I guess right Linda?

Let's not forget the fact that drawing 24,000 on a Wednesday afternoon against the worst team in baseball ain't too shabby, either.

How is it that they always find some guy in his 60's or 70's who says that the Cubs have always outdrawn the Sox when he is clearly old enough to know that isn't true?

"""But on a warm, sun-splashed afternoon, only 24,544 turned out for Wednesday's 5-1 victory over Kansas City. While that's the largest crowd the White Sox have drawn on a Wednesday this year, it's still well below the 39,000-plus who were at Wrigley a week ago."""

So i guess that doesnt mean that more fans are starting to come out to the park?? I guess i have to be in the AP to understand how they draw their conclusions
