This team never ceases to amaze me this season.

It's surprising when the Sox don't win.
It's surprising when Podsednik is on first and doesn't steal.
It's surprising when Garland doesn't turn in a quality start.

26 games over? It's a beautiful thing. Can't wait to fly out there this weekend and see a few games at the park. :D:

What a horrible game - our streak of games with an extra base hit is no more.

Seriously, that was a great all-around game. Garland was efficient with his pitches, the offense came through when it mattered (with the help of a couple bobbled balls) and some nice defense on our side.

The home plate ump was very consistent. I wish more umps would call those high strikes as well as the generous corners. Pitchers need all the help they can get in this league.

No way. I love MB and he is the better pitcher but Garland should start the game with the most wins in the bigs. This could be a huge draw for MLB. Willis vs Garland. Two young pitchers who have had good stuff but have never been this good. Oh well, it's going to be Clement anyways...

"Garland (12-2) reached the 12-win mark for the fourth straight season, though never this fast. The quickest he ever did it previously was in his 31st start in 2002. This was his 14th start of the season. All four victory No. 12s have come against the Royals."

MRKARNO
06-21-2005, 10:57 PM
I think the Royals awful defense played a big role in our scoring as many as we did (there weren't a whole lot of solid singles in our run-scoring innings and the one that was easily could have been an out at home), but that doesn't take away from Garland's performance tonight, which would have won us the ballgame any way you look at it. This was a great start for him because he had been faltering in his previous 4 starts (3-1 record, but a flat out awful 8.06 ERA). Sure it was against the Royals, but who cares? It was important for him to get back on track either way.

48-22. Are you kidding me? Unbelievable! Incredible! Amazing! Brilliant! YE-ES!

With a 9 game lead over Minny at this point, the Twins have to start wishing for a White Sox collapse as their only hope to win this division because they could play very well and still not have much of a chance. It's really shocking how things have changed in the division race since that AZ game where we were down 6-1 and it looked like we might only be 3 games ahead of the Twins.

Anyone else notice that tomorrow we face some punk-kid named J.P. Howell, who was called up 10 days ago? Looking at his line, what jumps out is 11 K's in 11 innings, and he's a lefty [don't we seem to scuffle against lefties?]... of course a sweep would be great, but I REALLY want to see us knock this kid around... I credit some of Garland's success this season to Pierzynski knowing which pitches to call for and challenging Garland to go inside more. No reason to think that way. I'm thinking more along these lines: If the Sox slow down and win at a reasonable .578 clip for the rest of the way, that puts their record from here on out at 52-40 and puts them right at 100 wins. Besides being a triple digit number, what's so special about 100 wins? There has only been one team in history to record 100 wins in White Sox history. Which would that be? Well, our 1917 counterparts (who won 100 exactly). Any more than 100 wins would be a franchise record.

Beats the 99-win season by the '83 team.

I don't want to go into the playoffs playing .500 or below baseball for the 2nd half. It means the world to have momentum going into October. Hopefully we get hot at the right time down the stretch.

Ozuna looks like he's having a load of fun out there now that he's seen starting action in back-to-back games. They did a close-up of him on the televised broadcast and he was smiling ear-to-ear. They oughta start Ozuna more often...The guy certainly brings it when called upon.

And, my word, a NINE game lead already...We're 3/4 around the clock! Looks like we're cleaning someone's clock in this division!!! And this won't be pretty the rest of the way either...I just don't see this team letting up.

No. We're the best team in the league against LH pitchers. Our 2 LH hitters hit lefty's better than righty's. The only person that really struggles notably against LH pitching is PK.

And Daver's right! Howell isn't a "punk kid."

The central's got some real tough young pitching. MB, Garland, Sabathia, Santana, Grienke, Bonderman and Howell all are, or are going to be, absolute studs.

Garland couldn't even maintain the shutout. What a bum. He obviously lacks the killer instinct to get big outs in the 9th. We should trade him for someone who knows how to finish out games.

In all seriousness, another great outing by Garland. It was funny watching BBTN debate over which Sox starter should start the All-Star game. It's June 21st and Jon Garland has 12 wins. Wow. I don't even think Jon Garland could have imagined Jon Garland having 12 wins at this point. I'm sure he would have felt 7 or 8 wins at this point would be a success. And frankly, 7 or 8 wins at this time would be pretty damn good. But 12 is just amazing.

Another great game to go to. Beautiful weather, nice crowd, Sox rolled.

Garland was dominant of course, and how about Pablo Ozuna? Every time he is in the line up he makes something happen. Two RBIs for him tonight, and solid defense. Though I know Uribe needs to get back out there, I also think Pablo deserves another start tomorrow.

No HRs, in fact no extra-base hits at all... in 2003-04 that's a definite loss, in 2005 it's a W. I love it.

Oh and tonight's random celebrity guest: the Doobie Brothers. They played a few songs on the field pregame, then Nancy played a bunch of their songs during the game as they sat in the Scout Seats.

I'm tired of rooks looking like Cy Young, Walter Johnson & Lefty Grove all rolled into in whenever one pitches against us.

Last Friday, we faced D.J. Houlton of the Dodgers. He is a rookie, and we beat him 6-0. We also beat Jeff Francis in Colorado and Chacin in Toronto. This notion that we always lose to rookies is a thing of the past.

48-22? 9 games up? Wow.

Please don't wake me up.
You aren't dreaming Beckett. So this is what it felt like to be the Indians in the late '90s. Y'know what, I like the view from up here!

Too bad he couldnt get the CG. Boy...Did Ozzie get booed for pulling Jon in the 9th. And those booing couldn't have been more wrong. Complete games are just sideshows to the real point of the season: wins. Don't wait until you're handing the bullpen a tough assignment. He let Jon go out there to start the inning, and he showed that he was out of gas. Get the bullpen in there while it's still easy to close out the win.

There have been two times that I can clearly remember when the Sox were this hot for an extended period of time...now they had stretches like this in the mid 60's but I don't personally remember them. I do remember August / September 1983 and I remember the first 3 1/2 months of 2000.

This is a good as those were and hopefully turn out with a much happier ending in late october.

It is awesome. I am totally in love with them. My life is in their hands. If they win it all in October, I am willing to hand everything over to them. There is nothing more than I need or want than a World Championship.

12-2!! Jon Garland rules!! :bandance:
No doot aboot it, eh! I can't believe Garland's performance this season. He's finally all grown up!

I agree with an earlier poster who said no wonder we freak out over losses -- we are getting so accustomed to winning. Winning with ease, winning late, winning big. Lots of winning going on. Keep it up fellas.

This is what it feels like when the Sox Rule.

I didn't get to see the game, but it would seem to me with the way the game laid out, that it was more "token" booing than anything. Simply booing in fun, if i can call it that.

Other note. That poor kid greinke. (I would to use colors on this statement... not sure if it falls under teal or pink though): we should trade b-mac and a bunch of money for him. I'm sure K.C. would be all over it. They're poor.

J.P. Howell is not a punk kid, he is a lefty with good stuff, I have seen tape of his minor league starts.

Punk kid is a figurative expression... I'm hoping he doesn't have his good stuff today.

My original post was qualified... I spelled out he has 11K's in 11 IP... that's pretty good.

I'm not tracking how we do verses never seen before rookies... I missed Friday's night game [and the others you mentioned]. D.J. Houlton got by me... I think it's great that we are chasing rookies.

I hope they do it again [today] because I have the time to watch the game.

No. We're the best team in the league against LH pitchers. Our 2 LH hitters hit lefty's better than righty's. The only person that really struggles notably against LH pitching is PK.

PK was the player that was at the forefront of my mind regarding lefties, which is why I said seemingly because I wasn't sure and wasn't going to look it up.

And Daver's right! Howell isn't a "punk kid."

Are you his "Dad"?

FWIW, the Sox snapped their streak at 40-something with having an extra base hit in a game last night. As long as we won....
