Why this game was awesome:

1. Win on ESPN
2. Comeback victory
3. Thomas keys the comeback with a leadoff walk
4. Smartball was key
5. Marte came through in a big situation
6. 7.5 games ahead of Minny
7. SWEEP
8. Revenge against the Dodgers
9. Aaron comes through again with RISP
10. Dustin Hermanson comes on for the save (small strikezone almost got him, but he managed to get through it)
11. Politte was awesome again.

This win goes to Ozzie the in-game out-managing of Tracy...
- Great use of the bullpen by Ozzie
- Pinch-hitting Frank (to LEAD OFF an inning) in a "dare LA to pitch to him" situation when Oz knew they would pitch around him
- Tracy not IBB Rowand when GIDPK is on-deck

Just a great game to show EVERYONE why we are so good. This year is awesome!

Thank goodness for Rooney and Farmer. As the boys at WWBM like to say before Bears games, "Turn the TV down and listen to the hometown call!"

Truer words have never been spoken.

BTW, I've only been around for 29 years, and in Chicago only for 7 of those 29. I grew up in LA following the Dodgers and Lakers, and of course rooted for my high school and college teams. But this is without a doubt the most fun I've ever had following a sports team, college or pro, BY FAR. I love this team.

No kidding, I turned on the TV in the 4th just in time for them to show a bunch of fans wearing Cub hats, followed immediately by an on-screen graphic comparing Cubs-Sox attendance figures, along with percent-occupied figures.... I just about threw up! I wound up listening to the rest of the game on the radio, with Rooney and Farmer.

Also, let us not forget the blown call by the first base ump on Pods' bunt. He was clearly out, and that set up the winning run being knocked in by Aaron.

I'll take it. That probably made up for the crap strike zone being called in favor of the Dodgers (and yes, I realize it was bad for both teams, but some of those strikes given to the Dodgers' pitchers...sheesh).

When Frank pinch hit to open the 8th, I thought it was a weird move, until he was semi-intentionally walked, and Ozuna then runs for him. Was that Ozzies thinking? Why not bat him with men on base, then pull a double switch for the 9th inning? Or was there a method to Ozzies madness?

I love this team. Simply unbelievable. Most fun to watch club since the 2003 Marlins. I wonder how the Twins feel in the cellar? I'm up in Minnesota right now, and I reveled in listening to them lose over the radio. Beautiful.

For me, this was the most fun I had watching a game on TV all year. I know that sounds weird considering yesterdays game, but this game was just so hard fought, bare knuckle baseball. Both teams wanted it BAD and we beat a pretty good ballclub who got in front of us early. Everyone on this team just battles. Nobody wants to go down easy. They leave their hearts on the field. I loved it when Frank came in to pinch hit and the crowd roared and it scared the pitcher ****less, drawing the walk. Just... wow. Great team effort. Great team.

I was at the game Friday, and they played 50's tunes throughout the much of the pre-game period.

Also, I need a response to this: As much as I love the Sox uniforms of the present, wasn't it awesome to see them wear those cool threads from '59 (Saturday's game)? They looked great, I thought. Perhaps they should wear those a few more times (maybe once against the Cubs, once against the Red Sox, once against the Yankees in August, and maybe once against the Twins - showing people that our Sox have some retro-style that is really cool).

My next game will be Friday, 6/24, against the Cubs - Garcia's turn to start, I think.

For the 13th time this season, the Sox win a game when trailing in the 7th inning or later. Of such devices, champions are made.

Terrible, terrible ESPN broadcast...how many times could the ****ing dip****s bring up the Cubs or Wrigley Field or attendance?

It's times like this that I'm glad to be the last person in the USA without cable. Listening to Rooney and Farmer make the call on Aaron's hit was just so sweet.

Sweeter still will be hearing the ESPN numbnuts, the national media numbnuts, and especially the WGN numbnuts choke on the words

Tonight, Wayne Gretsky joined the "I always liked the White Sox for so and so reason" crowd. What big name will join on next? (And I do realize that he was here more for the prostate cancer fundraising, but I'm talking more about the Vince Vaughn types)

Now that you mention it, he does kind of look like a Super Trooper - but I stand by my original statement: Jeff Kent - Porno Mustache.

Yeah, it could kind of either way. We'd have to conduct a number of mustache tests to reach a definitive conclusion.

Frank has an extremely high on-base percentage, and always has. I think Ozzie put him in to draw a walk. And if the Dodgers dared pitch to him, well, their funeral.

Was there tonight (as well as last night). A friend (Soxstarter) called in the 7th for an update. I told her it was 3-2 Dodgers, but we were winning. She did not understand at the time what I meant, but learned later on-just as the Dodgers learned.

From now on, if the Sox are within 5 runs, I will consider them to win the game!

I was there in Section 162, Row 5, and the entire bleachers area was rocking the entire game. I'd say this was one of my favorite collections of fans to sit around this season, and I've been to 11 games.

Rowand's clutch as usual! Nobody better to come up in that situation than Rowand!

It feels great to be 7.5 games up!

Sweet. Nice to see that lead go up to 7.5 games.

Plus I just got back from LA and I had to listen to the first 2 games on the Dodgers radio network. Those mopes ripped on Sox players every chance they got...from Freddy's untucked shirt (over 2 innings spent talking about how sloppy he looked) to suggesting that the critics in San Fran were right about AJ after he failed to block one of Freddy's wild pitches with his body, etc. Hope they enjoy that sweep :D:

I figured it would be crowded, but I've never seen them do this before.

It was my first time driving to a game, and me, being 16, was surprised by everything, but mostly by this. I've never seen them do this. Could someone shed some light on that?

This was a great win tonight. It was awesome to the the Sox finally break the ESPN jinx, and they did it in comeback fashion.

I thought there were a few unsung heroes tonight. The first two were Crede and Harris for turning the nice double play to minimize the damage. IIRC, it was the fourth inning. Without that DP, we would not have been in position to win.

The other unsung hero was Ozzie Guillen. His use of Frank Thomas in the seventh and eighth was brilliant. First, he had Frank go get a bat when Everett was due up so that the Dodgers would not bring in Wunsch. There was no way they were going to bring in a lefty and have to face the big man. Instead, Tracy stuck with Weaver, and Ozzie let Everett face him. When that did not pan out, Ozzie had Frank lead off the eighth as a pinch hitter. We needed a base runner, and Frank has a 1.000 OBP in those situations. There is no way that any team is going to throw strikes to Frank when the Sox are down a run and Podsednik is on deck. Forcing the Dodgers to give us a baserunner was brilliant!

So you are a reformed Dodger fan?!

No kidding! Who was umping first tonight? Send him a thank you card!It was easy to see in super slo-mo, but in real time, with all the confusion of Hee Sop trying to do the limbo to get out of the way, and Kent doing a superstretch, it looked like he was off the bag. LA misplayed it, and payed the price.

By the way, I didn't think Kent was chewing Hee Sop out in the dugout, just a veteran trying to explain to a younger player how the play should have gone. "You charged in on a bunt, so I was going over to cover. If you see that the catcher has the play, just get down so he has a clear throw to me." No big deal.

Agreed. That should have been a routine play with where that bunt died. I don't care how fast Podsednik is, he should have been out by a good step or two. L.A. should have just been happy at the time that Kent made the catch at all and that Phillips' throw didn't end up somewhere along the right field wall.

You just answered you own question before you had a chance to ask it! :redneck

It's all Rhetorical at this point, some innings are taking on a dream like quality, and, at other times slow motioning as if heading to a car crash, like some post Timothy Leary "who spiked the water in the drinking fountain" bad acid flashback..........
All I know is this- When the White Sox win, I get this picture of Ozzie as some demented mad genius manager in the corner of the dugout pulling all the correct levers, while harold baines quietly goads him towards newer and more unconventional chess board moves, laughing histerically all the while.....: and when they lose, I grumble about Ozzies lack of experience and how little he retained after working for Jack Mckeon in Florida.
I'm going to need therapy by the time this season ends.....

Great team.

IMO, Frank drawing that walk was the key for us. People don't understand why he is such a threat for us, and it was SO satisfying for a national audience to be reminded why Frank Thomas is the Big Hurt in more ways than one. His OBP fits in perfectly with small ball, so if there was any worry that he could adapt it can go away now.

- Pinch-hitting Frank (to LEAD OFF an inning) in a "dare LA to pitch to him" situation when Oz knew they would pitch around him

They didn't pitch around him. Sanchez just couldn't locate his pitches. I thought it was a great move to put Frank in, hoping he'd draw a walk. But LA certainly didn't put Frank on base on purpose. You never put the tying run on base on purpose in the 8th inning. They did what they should and pitched Frank away, though Sanchez couldn't hit his sports which led to a walk.

And Aaron Rowand....so clutch. :bandance: :bandance: :bandance: Another great win. :gulp:
