Pierzynski hit the 29th walkoff home run in New Comiskey/U.S. Cellular history. Lets see if we can name them all(or a good majority).

1. Pierzynski
2. Jermaine Dye earlier this year.
3. Valentin to beat the Cubs.
4. Lee to beat the Cubs.
5. Thomas to sweep the Twins in 03.
6. Ventura vs the Cardinals in 98.
7. Somebody hit one on 5-13-00 but cant remember who.
8. Crede last year to beat the Tigers.
9. I think Ordonez hit one in 03.

Any more come to mind?

Maggs hit one last year against the Royals. And 5/13/00 might have been Abbott. I remember we were struggling in May and that game started to turn things around.

Crede in late 2002 hit like a three run homer to tie it in the 9th, then a grand slam to win it in extra innings. I'm probably off a little as I didn't watch the game (we were well out of the race), but I'm pretty close.

Walk off hits, not homeruns if I recall correctly.

I think I remember Dave Martinez hitting a walk-off grand slam against Detroit in 1996 or 1997.

Crede has a couple of game-ending home runs. In addition to the game against the Tigers I went to in 2003, he hit one against Toronto in 2002. The homers were more dramatic than the game-ending single he hit in 2002 against the Indians after Thomas tied the game with a two-out, three-run homer. (That was the game Royce Clayton didn't lace up his spikes and couldn't come out to run in the ninth.)

I think Ventura leads with 5 walkoff homers in the new park, including a two-out grand slam against the Rangers for a 10-8 win in 1991. That may have been the most dramatic game-ending homer in the new ballpark. (In the old park there was a Dick Allen pinch-hit with two out in 1972, but in 90 years, that may have been matched.) Sosa, I believe, hit the first in the new park. Baines hit a couple in 1996.

If I worked a little bit, I could probably find the list.

I remember last year or in '03 between Frank and Paulie one hit a homer to tie it in the ninth and the other hit a walk-off in the 10th or 11th. I think it was Frank, then Paulie.

Robin Ventura hit a walk-off grand slam once in the early nineties. I remember that because I was watching the game, then the power went off in my house and I missed it. I thought we were gonna lose, but then I saw the slam on the news later on.

Also Bo Jackson hit a homer off Mark Langston once, but I don't know if that won the game or just tied it.

Sorry 'bout my crummy memory...

Crede hit two walkoff homeruns last year. One was against the Tigers in a 7-6 win (solo) and the other was against I believe the Royals where the Sox were down 6-4 in the 9th with two men on and Crede hit one the other way for a walkoff. I remember because I watched both those games.

Wow, this is an incredible list. I'm going to edit it so far based on what everyone has said. Looks like we're about halfway there:

1. Pierzynski 6/18/05
2. Jermaine Dye earlier this year 5/31/05
3. Valentin to beat the Cubs 2003 Friday afternoon.
4. Lee to beat the Cubs 2001.
5. Thomas to sweep the Twins in 7/2/03.
6. Ventura vs the Cardinals in 98 (? Not sure on this one).
7. Jeff Abbott vs. Twins on 5-13-00.
8. Crede last year to beat the Tigers (July 2004)...last game in 1st place.
9. Frank Thomas off Washburn 2003
10. Ventura off Gossage 7/31/91
11. Jose Valentin (right field shot) 6/22/04
12. Crede vs. Royals (April or May 2004)
13. Crede's extra inning grand slam (late 2002)
14. Mags vs. Royals 2004 (anyone remember the date?)

Not sure on the Dave Martinez.

Yeah, I'll never forget that night. Frank lifted Ventura up over his shoulder at home plate, Bill Murray was in the crowd, and I'm 99.9% sure that's the first game Hawk ever called Frank "the Big Hurt". At the very end of the postgame on Sportschannel, they showed a freeze shot of Frank with Robin over his shoulder, and Hawk says, "Do It, Big Hurt!"

Duh. Of course. What was I thinking?

I looked it up. It was actually in 1999 at Wrigeley. Caruso hit a homer in the eigth that put the Sox ahead. I remember he got into Manual's doghouse in the second half of '99, so that must have been his last glory.

06/03/1995 Dave Martinez CHA off DET 9 10- 6

If anyone doesnt remember Venturas vs the Cardinals in 98, heres what happened. The Sox were down 4 in the 9th. Belle hit a 3 run homer, then Ventura followed with a solo shot to tie it. Then in the 11th, Ventura hit one to win it. I think Sean Lowe gave up the game winner. I only remember this because my brother was at the game.

Aparently he did this twice in 1996:
Link (http://espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stark_jayson/1227247.html)
Then there's Reggie Sanders, voted by Rockies reliever Gabe White as this year's walk-off king. On the day before the All-Star break, Sanders hit his second game-ending homer off White this year. (The other was April 20.) That made him the first NL hitter in almost half a century to hit more than one game-ender off the same pitcher twice in one season. The others in big-league history:

Ralph Kiner (Pirates) vs. Karl Drews (Phillies) in 1952

Alvin Davis (Mariners) vs. Keith Atherton (Twins and Athletics) in 1986

Tim Laudner (Twins) vs. Jim Winn (White Sox) in 1987

Harold Baines (White Sox) vs. John Wetteland (Yankees) in 1996

I am fairly certain the first White Sox 'walk off' winner at the new Comiskey Park came courtesy of 'Slammin'' Sammy Sosa.

If memory serves it was an extra inning blast against Milwaukee in either late April / early May of 1991. I remember it went into the left center field seats in the 11th or 12th inning.

In a similar way, Henry Aaron robbed Joe Adcock of a home run by running into the County Stadium dugout at the end of the game where Harvey Haddix pitched 12 perfect innings for Pittsburgh.

At one time, a home run only counted as a double if that's all that was needed to score the winning run. I don't know when that changed, but I'm guessing Babe Ruth had something to do with it.

I think Ventura hit a walk-off vs. Cleveland on an "Elvis Night", I want to say it was like July 17. Of course, I remember the date but not the year. We had a group outing from work that day and IIRC that game ended on a walk off. I'll look it up.

Yep, here it is:

Friday, July 17th 1998

IN THE NEWS: Both Rafael Palmeiro (http://www.baseballlibrary.com/baseballlibrary/ballplayers/P/Palmeiro_Rafael.stm) and Albert Belle (http://www.baseballlibrary.com/baseballlibrary/ballplayers/B/Belle_Albert.stm) hit their 300th homers tonight. Palmeiro is 3–for–4 as his Orioles win, 4–1 over the Angels, and improve their record since the All–Star break to 9–0. Belle's homer—his 10th in 10 games since the break—and Robin Ventura (http://www.baseballlibrary.com/baseballlibrary/ballplayers/V/Ventura_Robin.stm)'s 9th–inning homer give the White Sox a 4–3 victory over the visiting Indians.

The Mariners sink the Royals, 18–5, for their 5th straight win. Bill Swift (http://www.baseballlibrary.com/baseballlibrary/ballplayers/S/Swift_Bill591.stm) gives up five runs in 5+ innings, but it is good enough to win. That link is great... if I had the time, I'd love to pair it down to a list of walk-off grand slams where the winning team won by one run (meaning, essentially, nothing but a grand slam would have helped)

Unless I missed it on retrosheet, I don't see one.

Actually, I just found a list in the 2003 Media Guide, from the most recent season I was able to attend games. I missed it earlier, even though I was sure I had read it, because the index lists it as "fantastic finishes" on page 273.

Ventura had five:

7/20/91 against Plesac, Milwaukee
731/91 against Gossage, Texas
8/9/96 against Myers, Baltimore
6/10/98 against Lowe, St. Louis
7/17/98 against Shuey, Cleveland

Ventura, I think, also holds the team record for grand slams in a game (2 in consecutive innings in Texas), season and career.

Indeed Sosa achieved his carear highlight by hitting the first walkoff homer in the new park, May 7, 1991, against Lee of Milwaukee. There were no game-ending home runs in 1992, 1993 and 1994, 1997 or 1999. Julio Franco never hit one.

The compiled thread list gives Crede two in 2002, but the 2003 media guide only has the Sox down for one in 2002. The one against the Devil Rays may have been 2003.

The list also misses a Cameron homer to win the second game of an Aug. 8 doubleheader to beat the Angels. It also misses the only walk-off I can remember seeing in person at the new ballpark. On May 25, 2003, Joe Crede hit a 3-run homer in the bottom of th 12th to avoid being swept by the Tigers in a weekend series that began with a 1-0 loss.

I think Abbott and Ventura, against Gossage, are the only ones on the media guide list that came with the Sox losing. Ventura could have won the game with a double, but Abbott needed to hit a home run. In many cases, with the score tied, a single would have done the job, but wouldn't have been nearly as much fun.

IT WAS SABO IN MAY OF THAT YEAR (EARLY IN THE SEASON). I REMEMBER WATCHING TI THINKIN "HERE WE GO...JUST LIKE 1994'-MAN WAS I WRONG.

If it was Sabo, the 2003 Media Guide doesn't acknowledge him, or anyone else in 1994.

Through 2002, the book lists only 18, meaning there would have to have been 11 since the beginning of the 2003 season, unless the Sox PR staff missed a couple three years ago -- and I assume the 29 figure came from the Sox PR staff this year. Maybe a more complete list is in the 2005 Media Guide, which I'm sure someone at WSI has. Maybe a list was in the extensive pregame press notes the team provides so that baseball reporters don't have to do their research, as, say, real reporters do. Sox PR department has made mistakes. One year, the guide had Baines as the first Sox player to have three stints with the team. "What about Buddy Bradford?" I screamed. The next year, there was mention of Buddy Bradford and a couple of Sox before my time having three stints with the team.

Anyway, the 2003 guide has Ventura for 5 game-ending homers, Baines for 2, Konerko for 2, Sosa, Martinez, Mouton, Thomas, Cameron, Abbott, Valentin, Lee, Crede for 1.

I remember Sabo's home run from an ESPN highlight. I don't remember if it was in the 8th or 9th or even if it was in Chicago. I have found that some people remember bottom of the 8th game-winning homers as walk-offs.

Ah, wait a minute. The only Valentin homer listed is the 2003 Cubs walkoff. If he's listed in the 2003 guide, that means he must have had one between 2000-2002. Although, that also could be a mistake since we've established Crede had two in 2002 but is only listed in the guide as having one.

I believe the one that we are missing is Valentin's HR against Texas in 2001. IIRC, Jose hit one from the left side of the plate earlier in the game and then hit the walk-off right handed. Let me try looking for the box-score.

Yup, it was. May 11, 2001 against Texas.
