sorry, maybe i'm just stating the obvious, but aaron rowand is clutch. and a beast. much like a.j., who is also a beast and very clutch.

what a game. i wish i could have been there instead of "watching" it on gameday down here in argentina.

it must've been vince vaughn's middle-of-the-ninth speech, "you guys are money and you don't even know it. you got these claws..."

If we can complete the sweep with a win on an ESPN sunday night game...won't that just be the icing on the cake?

It would cap one of the best series of the year so far. We've had everything this weekend: a dominating performance by Buehrle last night, and a comeback win fueled by basestealing and timely hitting (2 outs with a 3-2 count? Are you kidding me?), combined with a gutsy performance by Freddy to keep us close. And Cliffy is 4-0!

I know I might be getting ahead of myself with regards to the Sunday game, but I don't care. I love this team.

The deeppink may not be necessary. Who here, really, thought they would be playing .671 ball on June 18? Considering the hitters really haven't had their "A" game for a big part of the year, taking 2 out of 3 for the rest of the season is not impossible.

This team has the confidence to come back from just about any deficit. The fact that Freddy was able to work out of multiple jams tonight was the key to this win. Nice win and let's go for the sweep tomorrow night against Weaver.

Let's not forget Kent's eighth inning double drew chalk and was in fact a foul ball. The Sox had only 3 outs to make up that run.

Let's not forget both Thomas and Konerko swung at first pitches for two quick outs after Iguchi's masterful walk. That left the Sox with only 1 out to work with.

Wow! Just wow!!

It's interesting you bring up these points. Although Freddy threw garbage in the first and second innings, it seemed to me the Dodgers starter got a buch of questionable strike calls while the Sox seemed to get the shaft on a number of others. Maybe it's just my totally biased, utterly petty and completely unobjective point of view, though.... :redneck

Despite Freddy's early walks, Kent was the only Dodger who had a decent game against him with two extra base hits and the run scored off Freddy's wild pitch.

Final score: White Sox 5, Jeff Kent 3. I'll take it!

Just got back from the Cell, where I witnessed the most amazing win since the Carlos Lee walk-off grand slam against the Cubs in 2000. When Pierzynski's homer cleared the fence in left center, I seriously got verklempt -- it was is if the thing we were wishing for the most came true, and this on a night when it seemed as if the Dodgers pitchers had our number.

Can't say enough about Garcia, for battling back from the worst start I've seen by a Sox pitcher this year to flat-out dealing, and keeping the team in it.

Can't say enough about Iguchi, for coaxing the first walk in the 9th.

Can't say enough about Crazy Carl, delivering the clutch 2-out RBI single.

Can't say enough about Ozzie's decision to put in Wheels to PR for CC.

Can't say enough for Willie stealing second uncontested.

Can't say enough for Rowand delivering THE clutch hit of the game, to score Willie (classy slide across home, too!).

And, last but certainly not least, thanks to AJ for an amazing at-bat against a guy who was throwing 96mph heat. He really battled, and when the ball came off his bat I thought it would be enough for a double, and could Aaron score? That question didn't need to be answered, and the crowd went absolutely nuts. Looking around the park at 36,000+ Sox fans with their hands in the air, and then down on the field as Pierzynksi was mobbed at home, was quite a feeling.

Most teams don't win games like this. This team is special.

Great game, and one victory that will be sure to go down in the annals of White Sox lore. This game was truly an "Instant Classic!"

Hands down that was the most exciting "pull one out of the fire" victory of the season! My wife who was watching some of the game with me, left me for the back yard to feed her koi after Konerko flied out, she couldn't bear to watch them lose.

After the Sox rallied to first tie the score, then go on to win it on A.J.'s Game Winning HR, she said he heard whoops and hollars all throughout the neighborhood houses as Pierzynski's ball left the yard!!

She walked in and said, I guess we have a lot of Sox fans for neighbors too! I was just speachless, and just said "WOW!" What a game!!!!

I sure hope some of you had your VCR's rolling for that game. (Even without the expressed written consent of MLB) :D:

Despite walks and tension Freddie G, houdinied his way into 8 innings. He was great.

Great at bats galore in the 9th. Tadi gu gu's great eye. Carl E's BIG 2 out hit.

Willygo pinch runs and steals second. AArow fights off strike 2 and singles to tie it.

AJ, what can you say about that AB? Fouling off pitches as AArow tries to steal. Swings late TRYING to go opposite field. Swings at ball 4 trying to go to left. And then homering for the walkoff win.

The uniforms were ........ well, utterly beautiful. No names on the back, number on the right shoulder, block "SOX" on the hats and helmuts. Memories were flooding back. Sox memories. Someone wrote that Harris' steal was an example of why the Sox are the best team, I agree. Anyway to get a win is in play. GO-GO- SOX!!!!!!!

Honestly, I had a feeling this was just going to be one of those games moved to the right column and that's be the end of it; the way Garcia couldn't find the plate in the beginning, and then when he did, the offense was being shut down- it just didn't look good. Ah yes... but then Iguchi worked the count in the 9th to walk and proved me wrong. As they say, my Sox fan friends, "The Rest Is History!" Right after the game I thought of the gentleman who asked if he could be sent a tape of the game, what a great game for such a request! Makes me wonder what else he knows about the future.

GO-GO-GO SOX (all the way)!!! I taped it. I was golfing and came in while AJ was rounding the bases.

I have never seen the cell go that crazy before it was great, best feeling in the world.

I just got back about 15 minutes ago. The place might be the loudest I've ever heard it for the whole 9th inning ever--that includes the playoffs in 2000 and countless games against the Chubs (who Gene Honda referred to as the "Chicago National League Ballclub" when he announced the Sox charity auction item.

It's too bad you couldn't have been there. I don't think I've been to a more perfect game, all things considered:

-the weather was clear skies and crisp mid-60s temperatures
-near sellout crowd
-great, improbable, 2-out comeback victory capped by a walkoff HR
-walking out onto the ramps outside the park to see wispy pink sky, clear skies, and the beautiful spectre of the Chicago skyline to the north, and this city's great industrial surroundings to the west and south
-the sounds, sights and smells of fireworks blasting into the night as we walked down 35th Street toward our car

Just perfect.

I'm with you all the way... wow. It was an electric expierence tonight. Words can't describe it. Lifeless for 8 innings and a total meltdown by the Dodgers and a White Sox winner. This now ranks up there with my favorite games along with that Crede walk off last year (hopefully we dont tank it now like what happen last year after that)

My wife had work to do, so we left when the game ended, and it seemed that 90% of people stayed for the fireworks, so it wasn't the usual boisterous scene (though a quick exit!).

Just got home from the Cell. I don't have time to read all the postgame chat, but what an unforgettable night. In my section, people were high-fiving and hugging people they didn't even know after A.J. hit that ball.

We were down 3-1 with two outs and an 0-2 count on Crazy Carl, and we still found a way to a win against a pitcher who was throwing 96 mph. Great at-bats from Iguchi, Everett and Rowand. And A.J.'s at-bat was one of the best by any Sox player this year. He fouled off some tough ones. He saw everything in Brozoban's arsenal, and when he got one to hit, he didn't miss it. I know his batting average isn't the greatest, but A.J. is a money player. He has been his whole career. He showed it again tonight.

Sox now 6-3 with me in attendance. I'm looking forward to going again tomorrow night.

Just got home from this one. That was the best game I've seen this year. The crowd was so into it with every pitch in the bottom of the 9th. And, when AJ hit that homerun (which, from where I was sitting, didn't look like it was going out), that place went NUTS!

This was the first time I brought my son to a game this year and I'm glad I did. The only two games I've been at and seen walk off HR's, he was there too!(2004, Valentin HR in 10th to win). Up until things got rolling in the 9th, I didn't think we had a chance. The team and the fans just seemed lifeless. But, all that clutch (clutch-o-matic!) hitting with 2 outs?!? Does it get any better than this! Oh yeah, it did. The game was immediately followed by an awesome post game fireworks show.

Just wanted to take a moment to congratulate everyone at WGN-TV sports and Brooks' department for the job that they all did for the 1959 'Turn Back The Clock Night' Saturday. It's the best telecast I've seen since WGN did the final night game at the original Comiskey Park. (Frank Sinatra singing 'There Used To Be A Ballpark' during the opening was a classic!
Seeing those uniforms again (which the Sox wore through the 1963 season) gave me goose bumps. And talk about an ending!

Without being there behind the scenes, I'd have to consider this a perfect night. Big crowd, the 59 guys honored, those 59 uniforms, Landis and Pierce interviewed by DJ, the 'retro' graphics, a dramatic win and a great telecast by WGN-TV. Getting Vin Scully to speak for a minute or two was a stroke of genius!

Just something to jot down for the future.

2007 is the 35th anniversary of the 1972 Sox, the Red Pinstripe Uniforms, Dick Allen, Wilbur Wood, Carlos May, Bill Melton (until June...), Eddie Herrmann, Terry Forster, 'Goose' Gossage and Stan Bahnsen.

2007 is also the 30th anniversary of the 1977 Southside Hit Men featuring Richie Zisk, Steve Stone, Oscar Gamble, Eric Soderholm, Wilbur Wood, Brian Downing, Lerrin LaGrow and Chet Lemon.

Just something to consider!

Again tremendous job!!!!! Amazing night. I'm glad I got it on tape. I'll give Billy, Jimmy and J.C. calls this week to get their impressions...it may make a nice story for WSI.

That game was why I give my time, my hard-earned cash, and my heart to this team. The pure joy of everyone around us when AJ ended that game was priceless, absolutely priceless.

Not to pull a Kellen Winslow Jr., but Freddy was a freaking warrior tonight. That first inning it was obvious he was just not on at all, but he would not let the game get out of hand. The ninth inning was spectacular, but Freddy deserves all the credit in the world for willing that game to stay close enough for them to make their comeback.

Unbelievable! This is our year. It just has to be.

That sentence got me thinking....

Every season we hear the Northside Regime, fans, media, whoever, saying: "Its our year!" "We Believe!" ... Same with the Red Sox before 2004

But White Sox fans...Never, not even after 2000, have we said "It has to be our year" and truly believed it....

But holy s***, our Sox are 45-22! With every victory the magic lingers and builds our hope for the next game....4 runs in the 9th with 2 out?? Cmon!

It has to be our year...You better believe it! :gulp:

we may have lost two very fine players this offseason

but now there is more depth and MUCH less disparity between the best and worst player on this team

I wasn't at work yet, so it wasn't me cheering. It could have been the staff though. Nearly the entire staff has become defacto Sox fans because most of 'em aren't from Chicago and they have to put up with Cub fan stupidity on a daily basis.

I'll come into work and one of the staff will tell me, "I'm now officially a Sox fan. There were a bunch of drunk and obnoxious Cubs fans in here that I wanted to kill earlier."

This was the best game I have attended this season. I have trouble enjoying postgame fireworks if the Sox lose the game. Tonight I didn't have that problem. AJP started the fireworks show early and I had a calm, content feeling during the entire fireworks show. What a perfect night at Comiskey.

I was happy to see Iguchi lead off the 9th with a walk because that meant the tying run came to the plate. I know as long as the tying run is at the plate, we still have a chance. Nice job by Iguchi knowing what he had to do and then doing it. After Thomas grounded out, advancing Iguchi to second, my man Carl Everett smashed a single a few feet from the right field line, scoring Iguchi. As Everett stepped to the plate, I knew that if he were to get on base, Willie Harris would pinch run as the potential game tying run. Sure enough, I was right and I knew Willie would be attempting to steal second to put the game tying run in scoring position. Nice job by Willie to come off the bench cold and steal second. Nice job by Rowand, the batter, to take a strike allowing Willie the chance to steal. And a great piece of 2-strike hitting by AROW to just meet the pitch and put it in play. Aaron's single up the middle scored Willie Harris, tying the game and sending the Comiskey crowd into raised arm celebration.

I was happy going into extra innings with our fresh bullpen, thanks to Buehrle's complete game shutout the night before. A.J. Pierzynski wasn't happy going to extras, deciding to end the game on a walk off opposite field, 2-run home run, making the South Side fans go berserk with joy.

As if the day wasn't good enough, the Comiskey lights powered down to darkness for the beautiful fireworks show. As I walked down the ramp, Sox fans broke out into two different cheers: "Let's go White Sox. clap clap clapclapclap," and "A.J. A.J. A.J." in appreciation to AJP's walkoff game ender.

This is our year Sox fans. Enjoy this. If you're a father, you must take your children to see this team play. I am still floating from this victory, 6 hours after it ended. I think this is the highest I've ever felt about this team.

Appreciate and enjoy this ride Sox fans.

Wow. This game had one of the most exciting finishes I've ever had the pleasure of witnessing, right up there with the game the Bears came back and beat the Niners in 01.

For me, tonight was shaping up to be a complete crapout. The buddy I was supposed to go to the game with had to cancel at the last minute becuase he forgot that tonight was his 1 year anniversary with his girlfriend and he had to make plans with her. I asked my roommate if he wanted go and he said sure, the only catch being he had a wedding gig in LaGrange that wouldn't be finished until 445. Once it's finished he calls me up and says he's driving back to Elmhurst, but he forgot that once you pass the 290 exit on NB 294 north, there isn't an exit until you practically get to Wisconsin. I had to leave without him and go alone as it would've taken him way too long to turn around and make it back to the house so that we could head to the park in one car. After sitting in Eisenhower traffic and then traffic to get a parking spot for the game, I finally make it to my seat in the 3rd when we were already down 2-0 and the Sox were making it look as if it was going to be a Corpseball type of night. I just felt awful spending all of that time, effort, and money to make it out to the park as it looked pretty bleak with Freddy struggling early on. Fortunately, he settled down and came through big time and kept the Sox in the game.

Then the ninth inning came. After Tad drew that leadoff walk the enitre stadium was energized and the atmosphere was electric. Everyone was on their feet cheering and it just got louder and louder as Carl singled Tad in, then Willie stole 2nd followed by Aaron's single to plate Willie. AJ's battle was of monumental proportions as he kept battling and fouling pitches off. I just had a feeling he was going to do something big becuase he was all over the pitcher, he just needed to straighten one out (kinda reminded me of Alex Cora's at bat against Matt Clement last year). The second AJ's bat made contact with that home run the entire house just erupted. Looking back, the chain of events in that inning seem magically surreal, and I'll never forget what happened.

Props to Cliff Politte, since no one has mentioned his contribution yet.

Now it's time for the Sox to go for the sweep. Here's hoping we don't see any of Ozzie's Sunday lineups on ESPN tomorrow night!:gulp:

Tim Kurkjian on ESPN was totally talking up the Sox and their fans, pointing out that people stayed 'til the very end of the game.

Good thing he apparently doesn't know Saturdays are fireworks night at the Cell. There were a LOT of families with kids there, and I'm sure otherwise a few thousand of them if not more would have already cleared out. That team looked dead.

Colleagues:

This win was huge, blah, blah, blah. A.J. is the most important player on this team. All the crap we heard about what a jerk he is at the beginning of the season really made me ill. (Though, I hated him when he was on the Twins.) The way he runs the staff and then his clutch hitting is the reason this team is winning. You can have all the talent in the world, but if you don't know how to use it, i.e. pitch selection, running game, coaching hit strategy, you end up with another typical losing year. So kudos to Ozzie and his staff.

Let's hope that K.W. can lock up A.J. for a couple more years. He signed just a one year deal.

Once it's finished he calls me up and says he's driving back to Elmhurst, but he forgot that once you pass the 290 exit on NB 294 north, there isn't an exit until you practically get to Wisconsin.

Yeah you have to go up to Touhy to get turned around, and spend another $1.80 in tolls if you are paying cash.

Its REAL easy to miss the 290 West ramp since they have so carefully put up the sign that says EXIT ONLY below the 290 EAST sign, so everyone thinks "Oh I don't want that lane!" But you DO! Its bad signage at its finest.

Oh well, back to the topic, I'm just glad to see I wasn't the only one that learned the 294-290 West lesson the hard way.

It's nice, but unfortunately the image in your signature is too large. Please cut it down; if you don't know how, there are several posters on these forums that can help you out.

I was at my Aunt's house filled with Cub fans and pissed everyone off by demanding we have the game on when they were losing. I actually made my little cousin cry when i jumped up and started yelling. Poor kid. But he might never forget it and I might be able to convert him at a young age.

What a game, what a team!:bandance:

It's done.

Now we'll never forget this. :D: This will be the measuring stick by which all subsequent 9th inning comebacks are measured.
